I hope the Obama administration kicks those greedy AIG bastards in the teeth hard.
I can’t believe after everything Letterman did to help that campaign out he would go on LENO! Although honestly I’m surprised a sitting president would go on any show at all…
This is just the latest reason why he isn’t qualified for the job. He should be more concerned with doing his job running the country rather than making media appearances. At least Bush had enough common sense and class to not make media appearances during his term.
If he has done one thing, he has found a new way to brainwash the public.
I didn’t realize Obama supported attempted union busters.
Wait. Really? Obama is going on Leno? I’m sorry. I mean I’m down with the new hip blackberry carrying president, but this is going too far. Jay Leno is a place where actors, actresses and bands go to shill their upcoming wares, this is not a forum dignified enough for the office of president. There is such a thing as making yourself too accessible to the public and I think it harms and deflates some of the power that you wield as the most powerful man in America. I hate to be on the early hater band wagon, but I feel like this administration is bouncing from one mistake to the next.
Okay, I’ll admit I didn’t vote for Obama. But surely even those who consider(ed) themselves to be supporters have got to be tired of seeing this guy flapping his mouth CONSTANTLY.
Will he use a teleprompter? Will Jay Leno challenge him at all? No need to answer– I think we all know the answers to those questions.
I cannot believe this! Obama is soooo into himself….a tv appearance. Is he our prez or a hollywood star? I cannot stand him! Conceided man!
Hopefully Leno will push him on the AIG insanity. Summers’ position of “contracts are sacred” is absurd. Before we loaned the automakers money, the unions were forced to renegotiate contracts. Meanwhile, AIG is getting more than 10 times what the automakers got, and a few executives who cause the crisis are entitled to bonuses? What a load of BS.
Is the teleprompter coming? Because Obama doesn’t go anywhere without the teleprompter.
“Hopefully Leno will push him on the AIG insanity…” Leno doesn’t push — he’ll probably ask the President if he brought a clip with him.
I agree – it’s a cheap stunt for the current President to go on a show like this. 60 Minutes or Nightline, sure – but Leno? And the fact that Leno disgraced the union during the WGA strike shouldn’t be forgotten. How are Obama’s people overlooking this? Unreal.
I’d like to see him go in front of Jon Stewart, now that might be good. But you all wanted change! Here you go. Our new President of entertainment! The only change I can believe in is changing the channel!
Unfortunately, we now have an utterly classless president who sees nothing wrong with someone of his position appearing on a late night comedy show. No wonder Russia is licking its lips right now…
This makes sense. If Obama can win over all the Tonight Show joke faxers, that’s gotta be 20 million Americans.
Obama has a right to get his message out, but pick and choose your venues. I support Obama, but how about following Bernanke on 60 Minutes, or make a Jon Stewart appearance, some place where you’re asked tough questions. I’m concerned this will trivialize the stimulus package and hurt the cause.
Obama – Hope(less)
Ah, the Drudgebots are coming out in full force:
1. Ooooh…teleprompter jokes. Wow..that’s some cutting edge satire there.
2. “Russia’s licking it’s lips”? How exactly? What exactly do you feel Russia is planning on doing? Can a Republican express a view of the world that doesn’t involve images of cartoonish super-villains hellbent on destroying this country? Of course, you are the same clowns who have elevated that crackpot Chavez as a mortal threat to the US.
3. If Obama wants to use the Leno show for his bully pulpit, more power to him. Perhaps the single biggest mistake Bush made during his Administration was that he was utterly unwilling to attempt to use any bully pulpit outside of Fox News and Rush’s minions. He never attempted to convince on-the-fence Americans about anything. He simply “decided”, and then had his flaks go on friendly news shows declaring that dissenters were somehow traitors.
Here’s a question you can ask, Jay: How is Secretary of the Treasury Tim Geithner, who was running the New York Federal Reserve Bank during the crucial time when most of this abuse was birthed, the best choice to fix the banking mess?
Wooooooooooooooowwwwww.
On principle I’m opposed to the leader of the our nation appearing on a variety show (even a great one). BUT I’ll reserve judgement until I see it. Like most things, it can be done but will they do it well?
-Wowzer
Well, since nobody’s reading the papers, why not hit the shows people watch instead of forcing layman to watch shows nobody cares about? I can’t believe classeless came up after that last eight years we spent clowning phoentics, up chuck and blank stares. You guys should never write for tv. Even if some of the choices are off, the man’s breaking a sweat to do something for middle class folks instead of the Ewing clans.
How about this question, Jay – does Obama ever check up on anyone’s background for a possible appointment to his administration? At least if they have paid their taxes? We all know the question to that one, though…
Quick question Tara, what exactly has he done for the middle class?
Are letting tax cut’s expire doing something for the middle class? How about doubling our deficit one week and then saying the economy isn’t as bad as we thought the next.
Just curious.

“At least Bush had enough common sense and class to not make media appearances during his term.”
If he had, I would have bought tickets, flown across country and thrown some old, stinking Army boots at him.
Hey there Jamie,
I don’t believe in Trickle Down theory so if you eliminate that, I think you’re helping middle class people. If you go to his website, you’ll see what the goals are. Will he succeed? Who knows? But for the last eight years, I wasn’t a fan of how things went – war not on the books, deregulation, housing bubbles and burstings. Our deficit didn’t just grow since November’s election. It was always there. Most economists will tell you that when the people aren’t spending money (which they aren’t) then government spending has to come into play. But these are ills that existed long ago. Somebody’s just not ignoring them. Sometimes reality sucks. And then it changes. I don’t love getting into political debates but I also love information and not opaque digs just because.
The celebrityization of Obama continues. Barf. How I rue for the days when world leaders not only acted like it but were treated like it.
Gee, Mahogany. Regarding your use of the word “rue”: (To quote Inigo Montoya: “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”
Julia,
Your comment just made me think
Change – Obama keeps using that word. I don’t think he means what we thought he meant.
