Geez. It took the Los Angeles Times four reporters to say absolutely nothing new today about the William Morris-Endeavor merger story. Not even one fresh development. This, despite the fact that the paper is more than 5 weeks late printing a word about the deal, and more than two weeks behind The New York Times. Patrick Goldstein’s brief LAT blog post doesn’t count: it was timed to the NYT story, and acknowledged I broke the news back on February 17th, yet still managed to say less than nothing. Both trades have weighed in superficially. But the most clueless blogging was by error-prone Sharon Waxman who wrote that talks between the two agencies weren’t even happening.

Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

At the LA Times wonder why they suck. They couldn’t get a scoop if they worked for Ben & Jerrys. The best part of the paper was Miz Brenoff and Hot Property, and they let her go!
You guys have got to stop calling each other out. It’s just boring already. He said. She said. TOLDJA. The truth is Nikki gets most of the scoops. How she gets them IS HER BUSINESS. And it is a business. Going on for years. She is connected. Does she “shake executives down”? COME ON! But she is/you are very opinionated. Sometimes commenting on movies you haven’t seen but have only heard about. As a filmmaker it’s frustrating to get those barbs when you haven’t even seen the film, but overall I’d rather read Nikki Finke than anyone else. On an accuracy level she’s amazing. Had the merger story first, Chernin first, HBO Callender out first, Carolyn Strauss out first – give her some credit. And stop all these blogs on blogs.
I couldn’t help but laugh when the reporter from the LAT went on kcrw’s the business to claim that they consistently break entertainment stories.
Here’s the thing…
I’m ok with this website reporting actual facts and information…
But when you and your readers use this site to get personal and anonymously try and destroy people’s careers and livelihoods – I think its a bit diabolical…
Other than being a lifelong WMA client, I don’t really have a dog in this fight – either way – I’ll still pay my 10 percent…
I’m just saying Nikki – you need to rise above career assassination…
Like WMA and the trades, the LAT is clueless.
And I couldn’t help but laugh when I saw the “Quick Takes” in today’s Calendar section and all the briefs were missing their headers…priceless.
@ Dan and Andy
I was thinking somewhat along those lines myself. Nikki – you know you exceed competence at your job. Isn’t it enough to just focus on what you do well, instead of spending such a sizable bulk of your time slamming competitors? Even if they start it, just let it roll off you like water off a duck. Be above their pettiness, focus on the work, and let them sink into the mire of all that unnecessary drama.
