Insiders tell me that Summit Entertainment is talking to very edgy director David Slade (Hard Candy, 30 Days Of Night) about helming Eclipse, the 3rd pic in the Twilight Saga. I understand he’s met with author Stephenie Meyer and Summit prez of production Erik Feig. But let me be clear: there’s no deal yet. (Why do I care? Let me be transparent — because those Twilight fans generate heaps of web traffic…)

Hard Candy, amazing!!
Finally! A little honest from Nikki Finke!
Nice pic! I enjoyed both Hard Candy and 30 Days of Night, though both had some script problems, he did a fine job directing them.
I think you should post at least once a day about Drew Barrymore potentially directing one of the Twilight movies. That may not generate web traffic with anybody else, but it will definitely generate web traffic with me. Speaking of, I haven’t read any of the Twilight books but is there a subplot in the second one about vampires getting high all the time? I say this because it’s becoming harder and harder to put Kristin Stewart onscreen without her looking stoned out of her mind.
I liked “Hard Candy”, but “30 Days” sucked big time. I’m not excited about this choice…
Frankly I haven’t been excited by any choices since they ditched Catherine Hardwicke…
I guess we can also expect a lot more Miley Cirus coverage then as well -got get that web trafic up there.
Will the fans want a “Twilight” film completely overdirected, with massive amounts of hideous open-shutter photography and whiplash editing?
I didn’t care for “Twilight” at all, but I wouldn’t wish David Slade on my worst enemy.
The guy couldn’t direct traffic. I imagine the fans might actually want to see what’s going on in the frame.
i heard good things about Hard Candy but yeah, 30 Days of Night it was so bad I didn’t finish watching. It joined the ranks of Ghost Rider, Shoot Em Up, Hitman and Max Payne — all movies I curse for wasting people’s lives (and those who made the movies).
He rocked Hard Candy and was so humble at the premiere at the DGA. We talked for quite some time after the movie, he was curious to know what impressed me the most and discussed some of his decisions.
30 Days had potential, but Niles is not a screenwriter. The writing ruined any potential of a sequel. I thought they were going in the direction of THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING and have Hartnett walk off leading the vamps, but instead they cut & pasted Blade II’s ending.
Never saw 30 DAYS but HARD CANDY was a brilliant display of sophisticated direction. Take 2 characters and put them in a small house and see if you can fill 2 hours with as many twists and as much tension. Maybe I began the film with low expectations but I thought it was a knock out. Suddenly I’m interested in this franchise.
(Why do I care? Let me be transparent — because those Twilight fans generate heaps of web traffic…)
we sure do
how can we not when there is so much happening around us… thank you for putting a smile on our faces first thing in the morning with that very funny comment.
I read your blog for a long time and must tell that your posts always prove to be of a high value and quality for readers.
Well, at least 30 Days of Night had real vampires, unlike those poor excuses walking around in Twilight.
What happened to J. A. Bayona????
Is that something that they always do, change the directors for sequels? Something tells me that Chris is gonna make New Moon really good, why change it?
I think its a bad choice. This is a love story not a horror. This guy makes great scary movies but he is too dark for the twilight saga….seriously. He scares the shit out of me.
Wow. It would be so awesome if they hired Slade–who’s a pretty good and indeed edgy director–and he turned ‘Eclipse’ into an actual vampire films with fangs, tension, and even horror, instead of the mass-commercial, disposable teeny-bopper crap ‘Twilight’ was.
I can just imagine the teen girls in the movie theater shaking, saying to themselves ‘Oh, my gawd! Vampires are actually…. monsters!’
hehehehehe.
stop complaining on twilight aboute not having real vampires. who the hell wrote a law aboute how vampires are “Suppose” to be!no one! and do you know what that means? Yes. that there is no “wrong” vampires.
If you dont like it, just ignore it. But dont dare give the actors or stephenie crap for that.
twilight is´t wrote to be a vampire saga It´s wrote to be aboute impossible love. It would be really childish if the would have what you call ” reaL” vampires in it.
and We love it so much and it means so much to us and wwe(specially not me)are not going to start to hate it just becouse you dont like it so why complane?
thank you…(THIS IS TO ALL STUPID COMMENTS and not to this site)
Does someone have a vampire dictionary? I think I’ll need one for Bestella’s post. thank you…
Bestella, I ‘m the last person to attack others on their grammar, but you really need take some remedial classes. Also, if you are going to write a book using vampires as main characters, then it would be nice for them to have realistic vampire.I have seen many vampires movies, and read a few books about vampire in my youth, and I can’t for the life of me remember asexual and sparkling being traits of vampires.
“who the hell wrote a law aboute how vampires are “Suppose” to be!no one!”
You are right, no one wrote a law, but the modern vampire we have come to know is base on eastern European folklore.
“twilight is´t wrote to be a vampire saga It´s wrote to be aboute impossible love”
Yet it uses vampires,or a vampire to tell this story of impossible love.If it was only about impossible love, why the need for vampires?
“It would be really childish if the would have what you call ” reaL” vampires in it”
How so?
“and We love it so much and it means so much to us and wwe(specially not me)are not going to start to hate it just becouse you dont like it so why complane?”
If I’m deciphering your statement right, you are saying we shouldn’t complain, because Twilight fans don’t care.Which is a lie, because if you didn’t care, why would you be here trying to defend the movie (and the terrible book it was base on).Furthermore, everyone isn’t complain, just pointing out it’s many flaws.
“THIS IS TO ALL STUPID COMMENTS and not to this site”
After reading your comment/post, I laughed harder and louder , then I did during the entire showing of “Observe & Report” at the irony in your closing sentence.Good job!
redmenace, you’re an idiot.
redmenace, It’s obvious Bestella’s primary language is not english! So stop trying to be so superior! I have not read any of the books, all I wanted to do was see a vampire picture so I went to see “Twilight”. Anybody can sit there and pick out all the flaws but I wanted to give the picture a chance and I loved it! I also love vampire pictures and I am not a tween! I can’t wait to see “New Moon” to see the saga evolving with different directors seems like a good idea.
GOROB, in no way was I trying to be superior. And you are right, english isn’t her primary language, stupidity is.
This stinks. It is almost as if someone is trying to sabotage the Twilight Saga. First you have Catherine Hardwick, now you have Chris Weitz and now you want to put someone in there to direct who has had 2 flops. Drew Barrymore would be better than that. What about Ron Howard or you would have a sure hit with George Lucus. I honestly think someone is trying to ruin Stephenie Meyers. You keep this up and she won’t even hae Breaking Dawn made into a move and I thought it was the best because Bella finally gets her wish to be with Edward eternally.
