I’m told that CAA has signed Jonathan Rhys-Meyers (star of Showtime’s The Tudors) and Alexander Skarsgård (HBO’s True Blood, in the running for Marvel Studios’ Thor). Both actors were previously with Endeavor.

Watch out for Rhys Meyers.
Rhys is now with CAA?? There goes the merger…
Post merger, we’re going to here a lot more CAA, ICM, UTA defections.
JRM has been thinking of his way out from Endeavor/BM forever until he was dropped by his manager when she was going to leave the biz/ THE FIRM (before she wisely chose BGE’s NY office instead)/ he then realized whipping himself into shape might give him the chance BM would never
Alex Saarsgaard is not in the running for Thor, anymore.
Wasn’t Meyers with UTA before Endeavor? He seems to be trying very hard to rise above his B-level status, but he just isn’t a good enough actor, unfortunately. The Tudors is shlock. His films roles show how limited he is. He was more interesting when he was younger, but the adult, gym-rat transformation isn’t working.
Let’s see… Two for you… One for me… Three for them… and so on and so on… YAWN!
Are you serious? He’s no Johnny Depp but he’s definitely not bad. He’s very good in The Tudors and he was solid in Match Point.
Isn’t Rhys Meyers a druggie?
And I guess Saarsgaard didn’t want to follow is agent Daisy to Gersh …
I have always thought Rhys-Meyers was a perfectly competent actor. He’s good on The Tutors (although admittedly it’s not my thing) and I thought he was excellent in Match Point. I wonder what keeps him from doing more mainstream stuff…
‘A perfectly competent actor..’? Talk about damned by faint praise. (And it’s “Tudors,” by the way. No one is tutoring anyone. Well, maybe they are). His career is stalling in B-level mode, and nothing is breaking him out of it. Maybe CAA can help him, but I still think he’s shown all he can do. Playing ‘Elvis’ just made him seem cheesy. He’s been around for awhile now and no one really seems to care. And sorry, the Tudors is C-level shlock.
Rhys-Meyers is good if his role requires nothing more than a one note performance. He needs to seriously expand his range because he’s definitely got an interesting/mysterious look about him. If he could just lose the petulant/cry-baby attitude instilled and solidified by both Match Point and The Tudors he might have something going.
Skarsgård is just gold waiting to be mined. No reason as to why he’s been “oscar mike” from the big screen since Generation Kill.
Well he’s a better actor than Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Matt Damon or many other so-called A listers. I think he’s a gifted, but inconsistent, actor. When the projects have been good ones he’s been great in them. Matchpoint is an obvious example. And he’s very good in The Tudors. He’s actually had a long career for a pretty young guy and there have been some gems.
Seems like everyone in this town is a freakin druggie…
He’ll be fine. I’d like to see him play a true villain one of these days. Henry the VIII, sure, he’s a villain… but i mean something really dark.
hey mbmmm….it’s Alexander Skarsgard….at least spell it right
curious – now that you’re done slagging off on JRM, do fill us in on your A-list credentials. Thanks!
Mr Meyers, in my opinion is an refreshing Actor. I’m so sick of having, Brad Pitt and Clooney shoved down my throat.
JRM is getting a raw deal in Hollywood.- He is a true talent.
Rhys-M may be hot and definitely has some talent – let’s hope CAA actually pushes for him out there. Perfectly decent actors go into the black hole and often get swallowed into nothingness. Still more intriguing is how the other agencies will use this WMA/End merger to their advantage in bagging other clients. Time to get your manpants on all!
Spot on lovediva-If I see Brad Pitt in another role not suited for him I’m going to scream!!! JRM is a good actor but why isn’t he getting better roles or more opportunities? As for Skarsgard, I would love for him to be Thor but it seems he doesn’t ???
I wrote a profile on Rhys Meyers for an arts monthly in 1999 and have watched him with admiration for ten years now. For I truly think (I don’t say it lightly) he MAY be the best actor of his generation. He’s way UP there, at least.
Anyone who says he strikes “one note” has not seen Jonny’s 36 films (one of each genre artfully strung together like pearls by what I used to think of as his able former management (before this crowd) who got him interesting roles with top notch people and stayed out of his way. In each, JRM is so stunningly NOT like the last that people cannot even recognize him!
He can strike major and minor chords with his eyes alone (he has a gold mote in one) one side of his face is carnal, the other ascetic (try it!) as in Jonathan Rhys Meyers is SO exotic! And the most exotic thing about JRM has been his androgynous eroticism
That said…The Tudors IS soft core shlock that trots JRM out like a teaser stallion and shows him in a flat dim light far beneath his talents. He’s done what he can for an oversexed series that squanders him.
There HAVE been other things in the last few years that have gone so against his grain and, I agree, the LA gym rat image being the worst of them. But reading your informative blog, Nikki, I now begin to realize exactly “WHAT has been wrong with Jonathan Rhys Meyers?”
This whole management mess would drive any…serious…actor to drink.
