Carl Icahn Now Wants ALL Of Lionsgate
Good for them. I love fedex, but it’s so abused it’s ridiculous. I’ve received checks for $3 sent via Fedex priority overnight from all the agencies. It’s great when you need it, but a big waste of money when something’s not a rush, and most of the time it’s not.
Not such an awful idea. Whether it’s Netflix or priority mail with tracking, it’s pretty amazing how the US Postal Service has gotten its act together and routinely beats FedEx (a great company) every day on delivery times and costs.
As I just did in response to this… Naughty but nice…
Gone are the days when agents used to messenger home their groceries.
BMiNY I agree. At least half of the stuff being sent fedex (and overnight at that) is not a rush. Snail Mail does the job just fine sometimes- Send the talent scripts overnight or via messenger, otherwise, no need for sending most scripts overnight. Much better to cut fedex down then to start letting employees go- Good for CAA.
What’s shocking about the story is not that CAA is doing it, but rather that it took them so long and that none of the other Big 5 have done the same.
For starters, as another poster mentioned, there’s a difference between FedEx afternoon delivery and Priority Overnight. The delivery difference is only 5 hours, but it’s a big price difference. Did the hundreds of packages CAA sends out REALLY need to be there by 10am? Especially when most clients aren’t even awake at that hour?? Probably not…
Secondly, in the rush to provide the best possible customer service, most agencies tend to lose sight of the forest for the trees. You don’t need to “Hot Rush” every single package. If it gets there by 7pm, it’s fine.
..or weed, in advance of their vacation in Aspen. Believe it. Or,…I just can’t-you couldn’t EVEN imagine it…
Hey if these agents need money, maybe, just maybe they shouldn’t require that YOU KNOW SOMEBODY for a referral to even submit your materials. I mean it’s like GM saying, you have an idea for a 150 mpg engine, it works, but do you know our VP of marketing. You see how well that worked, the agents need to modify their approach or go out of business with only five movies made in LA last quarter. As for the other pending projects I only see one date announced for 2011. As for the mail, hint, the reason they stopped using Fed Ex, well it wasn’t the cost, the agents learned they could actually send someone to the post office to send and pickup the mail at the USPS and it only cost slightly more.
Wasn’t proper “Fed’xing” covered in the leaked assistant University curriculum?
Apparently proper workplace behavior wasn’t per those embarrasing MP Lit asst. rumors in the earlier “University” post ending comments.
…I should add – when I was more centred in LA fed ex wasn’t necessarily faster than inter city than was snail mail. Meaning, no joke, if you popped something in the mail box one afternoon – it would be at the agency/studio/corp with the morning mail the next day (providing it was in a relatively close ‘hood).
When I was at CAA the general habit was to send everything and the kitchen sink by fedex.
if they’ve stopped that shit, the should be praised, not criticized.
FedEx is cool but people get far too carried away trying to impress people with that “be there first thing in the morning” crap. Why not just wait until the afternoon and save some money? Then again, I guess it’s easy to be a high roller when somebody else is picking up the tab.
