UPDATED: I’m told that the 28 Endeavor partners will confab Friday and Monday about the merger with William Morris. Also, there’s a flurry of emails inside the tenpercentery as the agents “step it up” to show they’re putting clients to work. Finally, Tom Strickler, a longtime Republican, sent out an in-house Endeavor announcement that today he registered as a Democrat “in this time of change”.

The blood is already being spilled. I’ve been hearing stories all week. Just insane. It really does feel like a season of Entourage.

The 28 Endeavor partners should vote to have Aaron Kaplan lead the new merged agency. He is smart and a real looker. He can basically do anything. I am a man but I want a uterus and ovaries installed so I can get Aaron Kaplan to put a baby inside me. Aaron Kaplan may be a god walking among us.
28 partners at Endo? Wow, that’s more than the number of handlers around Colin “Firewall” Farrell. Maybe these agencies do need to trim down a bit.
Uh…no more trimming down. Enough people are losing their jobs anyways.
Since when does anyone send a memo about changing their political affiliation? Smells of a self-serving, backslapping, brownie-point-gathering move to me.
Almost like the studio exec. who announced in advance of the news that he never frequented hookers supplied by Heidi Fleiss.
Is this a ploy to show the higher-ups that he wants to stay em-ploy-ed???
How did he last this long? Being a Republican in Hollywood is akin to committing career suicide.

Agents have never found work for their clients so the term “step it up” is pretty much can’t apply. It’s just like the promise of starting in the mail room these days and making it anywhere in an agency. Ever heard of the story where a certain someone asked someone else to build a fence?
@ordinaryjoe — Tom Strickler is one of the original partners. He doesn’t have to show any higher-up that he wants to stay employed. And he’s always been Republican-lite, at best.

No. I haven’t heard that story.

What is there to confab about? Endeavor is the winner in this scenario. The merger has nothing to do with Endeavor helping WM regain any lost prominence (anyone remember WM in the early 90′s?), it’s purely about Wiatt and his do-nothing lap dog Wirtschafter making out like bandits. They’ll collect on their stock and take off within 12 months, just watch. For all intents and purposes these two came over from ICM, brought in some of their pals, didn’t do a damn thing to grow WM and then made a plan to take off with more money than they ever thought; looks like WM got jacked.
Step It Up? – Your comment tells me that you’ve never worked at a major agency and know very little about how they work. Off the top of my head and from personal experience I can think of at least 20 people I know who went from mailroom to agent and I’m sure if I sat down and really thought about it that number would climb to closer to 50. And I’m talking about the Big 5 agencies, not one out in the valley.
And that’s not counting the dozens more who never really wanted to be agents and so were “placed” in CE and management positions.
And as for agents never having found work for clients…what an inane comment. It’s true that there are clients who really “win” the job in the room. But I know of far more instances where the agency has literally made that job happen for the client through terrific agent’ing. Ed Zwick was never supposed to direct BLOOD DIAMOND, Michael Mann was. CAA made it happen. Paul Walker was never supposed to get EIGHT BELOW or INTO THE BLUE, nor was Cole Hauser supposed to get 2 FAST 2 FURIOUS, but ICM made it happen. Hayden Christensen was never supposed to get JUMPER…etc., etc., etc.
You really need to get a clue about how much power the agencies have over shaping the product that’s out there in the marketplace.
Sounds like Step it up couldn’t step up. You’re dead wrong about starting in the mailroom and not being able to make it anywhere. Loyalty is everything out here.
Endeavor takes care of its employees.
I still think that Endeavor can make this work for them – first, take the WMA money; second, make the WMA types (and they know who they are…) as truly irrelevant as they sound; and three, purposefully continue to build where WMA is strong and use the “Top 2%” formula on talent. It seems that building talent over there may be lost (at least they have Bonnie & Thor).
