Los Angeles (May 21, 2009)—In nationwide voting completed today, members of the Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists have overwhelmingly approved new three-year successor agreements to the 2006 Screen Actors Guild Television Commercials Contract and the 2006 AFTRA Television and Radio Commercials Contracts. The memberships of AFTRA and SAG voted 93.84% percent in favor of the new agreements. Approximately 132,000 members of the unions received ballots, of which 28% percent returned them.

“28% returned the ballots”- Is that an unusual rate of returned ballots? I would have expected more members to vote. Either way, at least this one is resolved.
28% is more than expected. And yet still pathetic.
It’s not pathetic. Not all actors work in commercials.
Working actor #274 – That makes sense.
Just as not all actors work in commercials, are there many voting SAG members who don’t do much work in acting (even before the slowdown)?
Any predictions on the percentage of returned ballots in the SAG/AMPTP contract? Outcome?
28% is actually a great return for commercials. This augurs at least a 30% return for TV/Theatrical. Good news, I think, as far as getting this contract voted down goes. The more people who actually see the details of how bad it is will vote no.
The commercials contract was just as bad and made no written provisions against conflicts of interest that the tv/theatrical contract allows for. This is not a good sign in any way.
Besides, wasn’t the ballot due by to be post-marked by 5pm on the 21st of May?? So how could it have been ratified if not all the ballots have been received yet?? Something sure smells fishy to me.
