I've confirmed this is a 2009/2010 schedule that may be the final one, but is one that NBC is definitely considering. As I expected, it has Chuck returning. Though I do find it surprising that the network would put critical hit Southland on Friday night, usually considered dead air. The last I heard about Law & Order, the financial wrangling for the show with Dick Wolf is settled. But the series probably won't get a full order and will just fill in gaps in the schedule later on.
MONDAY -- TRAUMA, Heroes, Leno
TUESDAY -- Biggest Loser, Law & Order: SVU, Leno
WEDNESDAY -- Biggest Loser, PARENTHOOD, Leno
THURSDAY -- 30 Rock, P&R, Office, COMMUNITY, Leno
FRIDAY -- Chuck, Southland, Leno
SATURDAY -- Re-runs
SUNDAY -- Football
SUNDAY (January) -- Dateline, Apprentice, MERCY
- NBC Cancels 'Life', Renews 'SVU' & 'Medium', Horsetrades 'Chuck' & 'Earl'
- NBC "Infront" Primetime Sked
- NBC's Hot List: 'Trauma' And 'Parenthood' All But Picked Up
- Primetime Pilot Panic: The Hot List
Am I losing my mind or am I not seeing regular ‘Law & Order’ anywhere?
Well if this is true, the producers of Chuck better hope they can wrap up whatever storylines are open this season. Friday is the kiss of death, and its almost certain a 4th season will not follow this one.
SouthLand is solid; good cross between Crash & The Shield, w/ great character rotation, & a good range of acting moments. I never miss it, on Hulu, on my phone)
So Earl is either not getting picked up, starting late, or Fox has taken it.
Booring.
OMG. Brandon Tartikoff is rolling in his grave.
Where’s 100 Questions?
Nikki, is there a schedule do you know with Chuck airing on Wednesdays?
leno leno leno leno leno.
variety is the spice of life. compelling entertainment at it’s finest.
Chuck stinks, Southland stinks.
Law and Order is the only quality show, and the only reason to tune into NBC. Where is it?
Friday night is not the kiss of death. It’s where they put the shows that are dying.
I don’t think regular Law & Order was on last fall’s schedule either. It may be consigned to midseasons for the rest of its run.
Well it looks like they’re putting both of their low rated critical darlings on Fridays. It actually isn’t a bad strategy since those shows weren’t gonna get huge ratings no matter where they went and nothing they put on Fridays was gonna do great numbers. But I don’t think they’ll lead with 30 Rock on Thursdays. I think The Office will lead off the night.
I’m worried about 30 Rock at 8. I think it might lose quite a bit of the audience that watched it after the Office. It retained almost all of the Office audience for a while and now its bound to lose some. At least they didnt go with Office II following the Office.
Where’s MEDIUM?
Why do we need two hours of Biggest Loser weekly? I would put Parenthood on Wednesday @ 8pm and slide Southland after it.
At least Chuck is somewhere – and you never know, it may have staying power there if the network likes it enough to fight for it. Thanks to DirecTV, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS is still kicking (and will be back in the Friday 9pm timeslot come January after DTV gets the first run.)
Forgot to add – I am sure that the original flavor L&O will end up with at least a 13 episode order and a regular timeslot. However, I’d expect it to be delayed until midseason, as it has for the past couple of seasons, and then sub in for one of these shows which NBC will be keeping on a shorter run. (They’ve already said that Heroes is likely to have 18 episodes this season – why they even want that many, I don’t know – but it wouldn’t surprise me to see them run Heroes in its entirety in the fall without repeats and then put L&O on in its slot in the spring, or something.)
Why would NBC put Trauma in front of Heroes and move Chuck to Friday? The geektastic Chuck/Heroes lineup makes Monday Must-See-TV for the girlfriend and myself. Trauma would be a better pairing with Southland in my opinion. Yes Chuck’s ratings have suffered but it got really good the last month of new episodes so why ruin a good thing? Oh yeah, this is NBC/Universal, if it CAN be screwed up they’ll find a way to do it. When will they learn to leave well enough alone.
Where is 100 Questions?
Southland deserves to be aired sunday mornings at 3:30am. A frickin’ joke of a show with horrible writing. Just love how every character overacts with their face. Brilliant Wells, Brilliant!
A shame they’ve moved Chuck to Fridays. I’m betting they flip-flop Chuck & Parenthood when that sinks faster than the Titanic.
KATE! I think I’m losing my mind too!
That has got to be the most boring, tepid lineup I’ve ever seen. I got sleepy just reading abut it. A hearty “Well Done!” to the coke snorting monkeys at NBC – You’ve finally managed to make the Weather Channel more compelling than any show in your lineup.
Does anybody even watch this crap anymore?
Rudi Rose – I hope to god you’re not watching this crap on your phone WHILE you’re driving. Personally, my DVR is better than the phone since nothing is that important I have to watch right now.
Character rotation? Is that what you call it when your two lead characters disappear for an entire episode?
This is just sad. 5 hours given away to Leno. Saturday is for re-runs?
NBC needs a visionary to overhaul the network. I don’t work in TV but is there someone in the vein of Tartikoff working out there? Someone who actually enjoys Television?
rudi rose: with everyone buying huge tv’s and 20.1 surround sound systems…you’re watching tv on your phone? i don’t get it.
The Leno slot really hits you in the gut when you see it laid out like this. I cannot see how this move will not blow up in a big way.
Friday is the kiss of death its exactly what happened to las vegas
Medicare still won’t cover ‘virtual colonoscopy’,yet NBC encouraged over new reality series.
Mercy is more compatible with Biggest Loser than Parenthood is. Putting Mercy up against Brothers & Sisters is not wise.
Given the embarassing creative duldrums Heroes has been in, the smart move would be to put THAT show on Friday (where it would have a shot of CRUSHING Ghost Whisperer) and build the new Monday around Trauma at 9 (It’s not an 8 O’clock show, that’s for sure).
Parenthood/Trauma on Monday would be a formidible block and certainly challenge the CBS comedies better than Heroes/Chuck have been. Thos shows have audiences locked in and may be profitable in the long run but they are NOT growth properties.
Where’s Friday Night Lights?
What ever happened to The Philanthropist?
What I find kind of sad is that NBC’s sitcom choices are so sparse these days that they’ll have only one night of them. It feels like just half a schedule. A far cry from the 80s and even the 90s, when NBC owned multiple nights on account of their comedies.
If this is the schedule, then I won’t be watching Heroes anymore. I only stuck with it because I watched Chuck beforehand; if it airs on Friday, then that won’t happen.
Tim Kring has wasted a fantastic concept.
Sayanara, Chuck.
You never get the fame you deserve, and looks like you never will.
RIP
So, if my math is correct, when SNF ends, 35% of NBC’s primetime shows will be Biggest Loser and Leno? It’s no wonder NBC is mired in 4th place.
WTF—Friday?! I’m mean, NBC can’t possibly hate Chuck ‘that’ badly…can they?
Oh well, Chuck’s viewers might not be a substantial number but we’re of the buying variety that openly promote advertisers in the show. What other shows can flash that kind of badge of honour?
Oh—and before I forget, where’s Medium? The schedule looks a little sketchy…
I think Friday’s at 8pm is not bad at all for Chuck since most people do not go out till 9 or 10pm. If you are a FAN of the show, you will always be a fan regardless of when the show airs. 8pm is definitely better than 9pm no doubt.
Ghost Whisperer once reeled in million of viewers so who really knows.
So let me get this straight…..Over a third of the schedule is basically reality programming when you combine the likes of Leno and The Biggest Loser. Nice one, NBC. No wonder you’re in trouble. Talk about a gut check to the industry around here.
I deplore reality TV, but there are many shows on the NBC-owned Bravo that would outperform most of this line-up. They aren’t leveraging their properties well. Replace “Southland” (as mentioned, terrible show with horrible writing and even worse acting), “Chuck”, and “P&R” with “Real Housewives of New York”, “Millionaire Matchmaker”, and one of the modeling shows (doesn’t matter which one).
UGGH, putting Chuck on Fridays = terrible idea unless they are purposely trying to kill it. And pairing it with Southland = an even MORE terrible idea; those two shows could not possibly be LESS similar to each other.
Very curious, we’re out here and someday will fix what was destroyed. It’s amazing how something as similar as a love for tv eludes top execs.
Chuck would do well opposite the very tired looking Ghost Whisperer. Ghost Whisperer *really* jumped the shark with this really *stupid* “kill off her husband and put him in another man’s body” nonsense. YUCK!
Chuck, on the other hand is funny, fresh, and charming. It should easily blow Ghost Whisperer and it’s lam, idiotic “jump the shark” stories out of the water.
Chuck belongs on Mondays before Heroes. Why ruin a good thing? Perhaps not the highest ratings, but then again I hear Deal or No Deal isn’t doing so hot in that timeslot either, so it’s not just Chuck.
Moving it to Friday nights isn’t a terrible thing, after all some decent shows are on Fridays like Flashpoint & Numbers on CBS (in my opinion)… but Mondays are where it belongs. I would hate to see it move, but at least it would be on the list!!
Seriously… 5 hours of Leno in prime-time and 2 hours of The Biggest Loser… really??? I don’t particularly mind either of those shows, but I agree… no wonder NBC is slipping in ratings. They keep making silly moves.
NBC = Nothing But Crap
Jeff Zucker is the George W. Bush of network television!!
Put TRAUMA or PARENTHOOD on Friday and Give Chuck Monday back or Wednesday. COME ON NBC !!!! putting Chuck on Friday is say you want it to fail.
This schedule is beyond embarrassing. So in the fall, NBC will only have 8 hours (out of 21) of original scripted programming?
How low will Leno’s numbers have to be before they cancel his show? Maybe FOX should start programming for the 10pm hour…they would definitely be able to eat away at NBC’s numbers for that time period!
100 questions will most likely be mid-season
Pathetic. NBC is so lame.
Down to two live shows on NBC Heroes and Chuck. The rest who cares?
Southland won’t SURVIVE on Friday nights!! Damn…just when I was really getting into the show too!
Chuck is by far my favorite show on NBC, I hope it do well. At least it wont have to compete with HouseMD anymore
The Office should lead the night at 8pm. The ‘Friends’ spot.
It should be:
The Office
Community
30 Rock
Parks & Recreation
I seem to recall warning them not to do a “Space Shuttle Enterprise” pickup like this.
Of course, as dedicated as Chuck fans seem to be, maybe we’d survive the Friday Night Death Slot (a term I’m proud to have created the Wikipedia article about, which has survived all attempts to kill *it* off these last 5 years.
This doesn’t jibe with anything NBC has been saying.
NBC leadership says that the constrained 8-10pm block will allow them to focus surgically on the schedule to create themed nights. On this list, only Thursday fits that pattern, with a bunch of half-hour comedies.
Parenthood can probably do just fine with Biggest Loser leading in. There’s no theme, but it sounds like it would work. The Marriage Ref sounds like another that could work.
Trauma and Heroes might survive together, but
(A) that’s putting Trauma up against House, isn’t it? Good luck.
(B) I know they both have action, but they’re very different kinds of show. Trauma is dramatic medical action, Heroes is geeky superpowers action.
Trauma and Mercy, which are different breeds of medical drama, would be more like it — Mercy doesn’t mix well with either Dateline or Apprentice, I wouldn’t think.
And it makes perfect sense to pair Heroes with Day One in the spring.
Chuck and Southland make no sense at all together. Chuck is an action-comedy, it’s escapist fare. In other words, the worst possible lead into a semi-gritty police drama. And a pretty bad lead into Friday Night Lights, too, if they’re to share the same block in the spring.
I would believe Southland/FNL. But not this.
Law & Order SVU doesn’t belong with Biggest Loser, either. Pair L&O up with Southland.
I’m not saying that I’ll eat my hat if this is the real Fall schedule, but Silverman will eat his words and the other networks will eat NBC’s lunch (or whatever remains of it).
Better idea: give Chuck one hour on Thursday night up to the Olympics (that’s a healthy 18 episodes I think), and order half-seasons of two of their Thursday night half-hour comedies (preferably P&R and Community) for the spring, to be heavily promoted during the Olympics blitz. Office and 30 Rock can have full seasons from 9-10pm.
Chuck would have done better this last year on Thursdays at 8 than it did running against Big Bang Theory (same target audience)+HIMYM, Gossip Girl (another show by the same guy that created Chuck), and the 800-pound gorillas House and DWTS.
It seems to me that more people care about Chuck than NBC realizes, it is most definitely the best show on T.V. and Mondays are a great night for it. Who really wants to see two hours a week of people losing fat?- thats just horrible and boring! I really hope they give Chuck what it deserves, a fighting chance… It’s too Awesome to be kicked to the curb.
I am happy to see that Chuck has made the “cut.” It is the only show I watch on NBC and from that lineup, will continue to be so. I’ll be curious to see NBC’s summer re-run plan. They have never advertised Chuck well and have basically left it to the fans. Deal or No Deal has tanked in Chucks place since the finale and the Leno concept, well, it isn’t awesome.
Las Vegas did pretty well its 4th season on Fridays at 9pm –3.0 in the demos. It was moved to 10pm the following season because 3 of its main characters left the show, which eventually led to its cancellation.
Chuck can survive on Fridays –just needs to pull in a 1.8 or so.
Am I missing something, or where’s Friday Night Lights?!! PLEASE don’t tell me that show is done!!! Such a gem…
u just got to save chuck.. who else is cool enough to save the world week after week and still not get the girl?
Las Vegas did relatively well on Fridays during its 4th season: average a 3.0 in the 18-49 demos.
The following season it was moved to 10pm because 3 of it main cast members left the show, which eventually led to its cancellation.
The one thing I would change about the schedule is move Heroes to 8pm and L&O:SVU to 9pm on Mondays. That way Biggest Loser will provide a lead-in for Trauma. SVU is already an established show and will do well almost anywhere.
Anyone who thinks Friday is “dead air” just doesn’t have the right perspective. For me Friday is Sci-Friday. Even though it won’t be on the SciFi Channel, it’s on the same night as such greats as Stargate-SG1, SG-Atlantis, Dr Who, etc ALL multi-year series. Friday is the night for all of us to get our ge…errr Nerd on.
I was a Get Smart fan growing up and Chuck is today’s Get Smart. It’s funny, smartly written, and deserves to be on a network that sees it’s worth (nudge nudge SciFi Channel).
Let’s see – NBC is currently in 4th place. How much lower can they go? With this schedule, we’ll soon find out.
Laughing Out Loud)))
For those that are complaining about Chuck and Southland being moved to Fridays aka “death slots”, what do they have in common? They are produced by WB.
What do all the new shows have that have received “cushier” slots in common? NBC Universal is a producing partner.
Face it, this is once again Silverman attempting to cut costs and maximize profits regardless of the long term consequences. If you look at the schedule as a whole NBC Universal is a producer for at least 80% of it. Give it a couple of years and I am sure it will be 100%.
Yay for Chuck.
I believe that it will return and on Fridays as well. Just like you I am making an educated guess. Ms. Finke I notice you seem to have about half the knowledge of most blog sites with more followers because you post speculative headlines. Maybe I can becaome a “Hollywood insider” too. LOL.
Chuck on Friday is probably the best thing that could happen for the show. @ it’s current timeslot, House kills it, The Big Bang Theory kills it, How I met Your Mother kills it, and Dancing with the Stars kills it. It is last every single week against those better rated shows.
If you look at the schedule, there is no other spot that Chuck could go without being thrashed by the competition. At least on Friday, it’s average demo is competitive with Ghost Whisperer and it has a chance of not being last. Chuck fans, while very small in numbers has been very vocal and should be delighted that Chuck might get a 3rd chance despite being consistently last, when other shows don’t even get a second chance.
What about Criminal Intent? It’s ratings are on par with L&O, do we have to wait for a decision from USA?
My prediction: Friday night viewership of NBC is gonna go WAY up this year. My family will schedule it’s Fridays around “Chuck”. We flat-out love it that much!
I still will wait for day 19.
They said to us don’t belive in any matter before day 19/05
Something doesn’t seem right about this schedule with all the shows that were said to be renewed not on it like Medium and Law and Order! Althought i will not object cause the only show i really care about is! Go Chuck! I will watch that show no matter what time they air it!!!I hope this is true although im skeptical.
It really sucks that Life is cancelled …
I loved that show!
Chuck and Southland? That’s got to be one of the strangest pairings I’ve ever seen.
Good that Chuck seems good for renewal. Not so good that we won’t actually see what it’s capable of on a normal night.
Don’t get me wrong–I’ll take Chuck anyway they give it to us, but I’d really rather it not be on Fridays at 8. Now I’ll have to watch Chuck and record Ghost Whisperer. Oh well, that’s what I already did on Mondays, recorded Big Bang and How I Met Your Mother. Still, sucks to be tied to the tv Friday night to see my favorite show. And I can only set the timer for one thing, so if I’m gone, I’ll probably record Ghost Whisperer as they don’t put it online for viewing. Hopefully, Chuck will still do that. Ah well, still a renewal is better than a cancellation. But why oh why not Wednesday nights? There’s nothing on then!!!
Friday night would NOT be the kiss of death for Chuck. Friday night is a good place for niche shows with dedicated fans, and they don’t need to pull super ratings to survive. Ghost Whisperer on CBS is a good example.
I love Chuck and want to see it come back, but Friday is the kill spot.
This schedule is crazy to say the least. NBC should pair shows that have something in common. SVU and Southland for instance. Biggest Loser should take the 2 hr Tuesday slot (wish it was gone or on Fridays myself, but it does get good ratings). Chuck as a lead in for Southland is utterly crazy. It looks like FNL will be paired with Medium or Law and Order later in the year. Does that make sense? And where will the other 2 new shows go? Day One isn’t coming until March but where and when will 100 Questions be scheduled. In any case, L&O and Medium should be paired on Fridays and Chuck and Southland should be scheduled elsewhere (Monday and Wednesday would be nice).
I am a huge Chuck fan so if this is the Fall lineup, I will gladly follow Chuck to Fridays. Any day is better than getting cancelled.
Why is everyone complaining? If Chuck gets shunted off to Friday, at least it’s returning! And nowhere near House. We can still watch it! Don’t give NBC any reasons to kill Chuck by complaining about the day it’s on.
But anyway…this is the only site I’ve seen where it says Chuck is returning. It’s almost too good to be true.
Something NBC doesn’t seem to realize is that the Nielsen system is outdated. Until they get the numbers from people who watch on the web, DVR and live, they’ll never know what shows are actually the most popular. C’mon, NBC! KEEP CHUCK!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! DON’T PUT CHUCK ON FRIDAYS! I’ll take fridays before a cancellation, but c’mon, Chuck is amazing, and NBC knows it too. put it in a good time slot, and make it become the hit it deserves to be!!!
At least Chuck is getting renewed, and I personally think the friday spot is a good thing, not going head to head with the titan that is House and maybe getting some viewers from people who get fed up of Ghost Whisperer and channel surf. But there’s a few nicks in the linen. Pairing with Southland is a bad idea, the two shows don’t mesh well. Maybe if Heroes and Southland swapped spots, Heroes would at least get Chuck viewers watching too. Let’s be honest, it needs all the help it can get, as does Chuck. Both would do better on friday, thanks to the lack of good content on other channels. I mean, it doesn’t really make a difference to me, I’m in the UK so I’ll be forced to torrent them till we get hulu or the DVD’s come out, but I’m pretty anxious that Chuck gets a fighting chance and maybe lives to get a fourth season. We can but hope, and it certainly deserves it.
Off Duty Pilot
While not pleased to see Chuck moved to the Friday night spot, I am glad it will be back for the next season. They really need to rethink pairing it with Southland though. I’ll stay home Friday night to watch Chuck but i’m out the door when Southland comes on. I got other places to be.
Chuck is like the best show and we look forward to it’s return!
