I forgot to post this last week. At the NBC Comedy Showcase last Tuesday, which subbed for the network’s upfront, journalists who attended had to agree not to report what was said. So you didn’t hear the joke that Jimmy Fallon told about his boss: What do you get if Jeff Zucker marries Courteney Cox? A Cox-Zucker.

1 bad joke that was relevant back when friends was actually still on nbc and your headline asks if fallon topped kimmel?
Topping him in ratings, quality and by just about every other possible measure. I was at the ABC Uprfronts and Kimmel’s jag just wasn’t as funny or shocking as you’ve been reporting. Not to mention the fact I heard “How is this guy still on the air” more times than I could count. FROM HIS OWN FUCKING NETWORK!!!!
Jimmy Kimmel Live is irrelevant and probably toast. Fallon isn’t great, but he’s Johnny Carson compared to Kimmel.
Whatever Steve, I thought that was pretty funny. Outdated? Eh, maybe, but its still funny.
soooo lame. i like people making fun of that midget as much as the next guy, but jokes with the name “cox” is so elementary school.
Random post, DHD — I’m surprised you’re not more on top of Leno’s final week/the Conan handover…Have top brass been spending more time on Leno’s set or at Conan’s offices?
Has either of them brough in fresh writing blood for their new shows?
What the hell was DAME EDNA doing on Jay’s third-to-last show??? Emo Phillips is more relevent!
What exactly is Jay’s mood behind the scenes? How did HE react to Jimmy K’s “early bird special” jokes?
What’s going on with Letterman these days — is he salivating at the prospect of trouncing Conan?
kimmel is hilarious
Despite getting panned by critics, Fallon’s ratings were initially strong, likely due to the novelty of Late Nite New Guy. Since then, they’ve been steadily declining. Not hard to understand why. Watch the show once, if you can stand it. It’s beyond horrendous. Dane Cook meets Carrot Top w/ terrible writing.
Ren seems to have some personal vendetta against Kimmel. Fact is, Kimmel’s rant was pretty funny. Fallon’s “joke”, like everything else at NBC, sucked.
What sucks at NBC? Well, the ratings, losing Medium, canceling Earl, the affiliates sure seem anxious about Leno leading in to the news which is really gonna suck for them, oh, and the fact the network is a laughing stock. And Fallon’s show. There’s nothing more annoying than someone trying to be hip and funny, who’s neither.
Did Craig Ferguson do upfronts this year? The dude is so funny on his show, love to see him in a free form format.
No personal vendetta against kimmel at all, just reporting what i heard and saw. And i suppose i’m just tired of mediocrity being perpetuated for no other reason than to fill air time. Honestly, of all of the so-so talk shows out there, is there any earthly reason for Jimmy Kimmel Live to still be on the air? Let Conan and Letterman battle it out and I agree with you about Ferguson. But the rest can go, right?
Kimmel rocks, all yous playa hatin foolios be trippin. Fallon gots no game.
Letterman rules the night.
Jimmy Fallon is a comedic genious….. he is so much more funnier and cooler than anything thats ever been on cbs or abc late night.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a show lamer than Fallon’s. Kimmel’s good. He needs to fire his uncle. C Furgy is a comic genius. His opening bit with the monkey puppet the other night, was beyond brilliant.
Jimmy Fallon’s show is uncomfortable to watch, honestly. I’d write him off, but I remember that Conan started off really, really badly and that went on for quite some time, so who knows.
Perhaps Fallon is trying to be hip, but he’s extremely corny so it’s not working…and his guest list is awful every night.
Jimmy Kimmel says and does a lot of surprisingly funny things, but I find it difficult to sit through more than three minutes or so of his show at a time. Don’t know what it is.
Fallon is a hack…. 3rd rate Adam Sandler rip off…. having a goofy laugh/smirk does not a good comedian make
I agree with Paul. Everyone seems to forget just how horribly awkward and lame Conan was when he first started. It will take Fallon a little time to find out was does and doesn’t work.
between late nite & prime time, next fall nbc will fill 4 out of 6 available daily hours w/talk shows.
that’s not a television network, that’s a radio station!
