T4 is on track to be this years first $100+ million weekend winner.
I agree that Star Trek will have legs this weekend, but it won’t have them three weeks in a row. Star Trek is also doing pretty mediocre numbers abroad, in case you haven’t noticed.

Yes ST will have legs. The old fans are turning out in droves for repeats – several of my friends have already gone three times. Heck, I may go again myself. It’s been a long time since I enjoyed ST, and I enjoyed this film.
I wouldn’t be surprised if ST wins the weekend. Especially with the good reception from the general public. We shall see.
Yeah, cause that’s what audiences base their decisions on when they go to the movies — the professional or unprofessional behavior of the director of photography. Gimme a break. The reason Terminator 4 will fa-hail (relatively speaking, and anything other than 400 million plus worldwide is failure for it) is that a) the marketing has done nothing to excite the sci-fi base about seeing the movie and b) the marketing has done nothing to excite others about seeing the movie. The trailers / commercials are HORRIBLE. Cameron will feel redeemed.
“Angels and Demons”, which isn’t good (saw it Wednesday night), should do some decent-sized biz today thanks to fans of the book, but I think “Trek” will bounce back into the top spot Saturday and Sunday. I wouldn’t be surprised, and couldn’t be pleased more, if “Trek” takes top spot for the weekend.

I wasn’t going to see star trek but with the good reviews from people I know who have seen it
I am going this weekend.
It should come in a close second.
Trek will take it to #1 or a most likely very close second finish. I’d say 50 mill or so. The weekday numbers have been great by the way. Tom Hanks is so over the hill. Most of theses guys are. Out with the old, in with the new.

The other problem with T4 is the amount of information out there. I’ve read so much of the story in the morning spoilers of io9 that I feel as though I’ve seen the film. I have no desire now, to see it. (Plus the story sounds like a big disappointment)

I have seen Star Trek twice-no fan of the series or previous movies-and I am going to see it again. Loved it.
T4 is actually tracking at $100 million+ for its opening weekend. Sorry, but it’s true. Then it has five weeks until Transformers opens after that. Thus, I have a good feeling about its box office prospects — just call it a hunch.
Plus, I don’t know where you get that $400+ million number john. But WB (domestic rights) is only in for $50 million and Sony is in for $75 million (foreign rights).
Tie-ins and merchandising covered the additional costs with Halcyon retaining DVD rights and limited television licencing (shared with Warner Brothers).
If you INCLUDE P&A, Warner will have to make only $100 million in North American box office (not even including their limited television rights) and will retain 90%+ of its opening weekend cume. That means WB may make a profit in that opening weekend if tracking is correct and they take in $100+ million as is being currently predicted.
This is beginning to look like a sure thing and that’s probably why you have the beginnings of FOUR studios (WB, Sony, MGM, and FOX) fighting for the rights to the sequel(s).

I see star trek taking a close 2nd place this week with numbers in the 50s. Does anyone care about dan brown and tom hanks anymore?
The haters can hate, but Star Trek starts tomorrow at 100mil domestic, 50 foreign.
Here come the legs..T4 will suffer from (so I’ve heard) some VERY unprofessinal behavior by its DP- at least that’s what the rumors say. :p
Damn, I picked Angels and Demons as my number one box office film for this summer. Star Trek was number four.
HaHa B Hennessay! I can’t wait to see T4…
Just so you know…

You just answered that in your own post by pegging Star Trek at 2nd.

“Out with the old, in with the new”
(old=good new=shit)
“(old=good new=shit)”
Touche to a certain point.
Are you not tired yet of Cruise, Hanks, Smith and the rest of the McMovie Stars?
original joe, I hope to god you are in my box office pool; if so, thank you for your donation!
