I’m not seeing Back with Skeet Ulrich and Sherry Stringfield. Have they dumped it in the meantime?
The Eastmans????
Where’s US Attorney and House Rules?
Yeah, I was looking forward to re-living 9/11.
Any word on Flashpoint? is it gone, or will be back as a summer show?
I’m being told that CBS will decide on a few more dramas for midseason. US Attorney and House Rules are in the running.
It’s a shame — CBS had some really smart, interesting pilots this year, especially Back and the wonderful Eastmans, but my guess is that they’re still timid after the “out of the box disaster” year of Viva Laughlin, Swingtown, Cane, etc. At least they didn’t pick up House Rules — Jesus Christ, that script smelled like last week’s fish.
what happened to “waiting to die” and “ace in the hole” thought they were looking OK.
Surely, the NCIS spinoff will get a better name than NCIS: LA? Intersting change-up with The Mentalist.
Fall programming looks awful. CBS dumps ‘The Unit’ but saves the much lower-rated ‘Medium’ after being cancelled by NBC. NBC saves ‘Chuck’ and dumps higher-rated ‘Earl’. Fox dumps ‘Sarah Connor’ but saves the lower-rated ‘Dollhouse’. I know, it’s not always apples and oranges but these moves look convoluted and silly.
All is not lost, though – ‘Wipeout’ starts next week!
Flashpoint is midseason, Canuck co prod.
Medium is a perfect storm pairing with Ghost Whisperer, they will prob go out together.
Sarah Connor and Earl lost their buzz, had more seasons.
Dollhouse and Chuck are fresher, newer and have huge buzz so that’s more important for deserving another shot.
Less seasons under belt and big buzz but smaller ratings is greater than more seasons and bigger ratings.
What is the point of bringing back Rules of Engagement if they’re just going to do another 14 or 15 episode mid-season replacement again? How many shows have to draw a lower number on Monday nights in order for Rules to get a shot at having a slot there full time? I know it’s not the greatest sitcom ever but it’s WAY better than Worst Week ever hoped to be.
what happened to the jason biggs/mitch hurwitz show?
Would “The Unit” return as mid season, you think?
A pity that Back did not make it. Okay, the 9/11 part may have been too much, but it was still a new premise – something TV needs.
Oh, well. Another year, another pilot season.
And why split up BBT/HIMYM? Bad move.
Word was The Eastmans was their best pilot. Tested great too. Donald Sutherland, Saffron Burrows, Jesse Bradford…sad. More procedurals from CBS/Paramount. What does that tell ya.
I hope they add U.S. Attorney to midseason if anything is added at all (schedule already looks stacked for midseason). House Rules sounded ok, but cast isn’t exciting and Barack or not, the last thing people want to view is something about congress.
well said, savvydude. The ONLY show that might entice me to turn on the tube is ABC’s new Flash Forward with Joe Fiennes and Jack Davenport. And frankly, the names are the only attraction.
WHAT ABOUT THE EASTMANS? Casting of Jaqueline Bisset may be one of the smartest moves in television history. Buzz is great….don’t understand why it’s not on schedule!
What a waste. Why is CBS so afraid???? Unit and Eastmans would have been a great one two punch for people who miss ’smart tv’….how much more bruckheimer can we take???
My gut reactions, $0.02 worth, etc.:
CBS has decent shows (even if they are mostly procedurals), but IMO the scheduling for the upcoming season has me scratching my head. Haven’t these programmers heard of “audience flow”? (No, I have no access to the magic numbers behind these decisions, so I may reveal myself a fool. Oh, well.)
If I were given the mandate to shake up CBS’s schedule, I sure wouldn’t have kept Cold Case and Old Christine. I would have kept The Unit, but reluctantly parted with Without a Trace. I think I would have moved The Unit to 10p Tuesday, and done a military-flavored night. Would someone tell me why it’s “NCIS Los Angeles” when AFAIK, there’s not a huge US Navy presence in Los Angeles? San Diego, perhaps?
Sunday at 10p I’d bury Good Wife — it might even work there after a medical drama. Alternatively, I might have shifted The Unit to 8p, bumped Amazing Race to 9p, and tried a medical drama or Good Wife at 10p.
Mondays look about as well as any of us could come up with. Wednesdays, I’d find something else to lead off with besides Old Christine, but keep the rest of the night intact. Fridays, Medium at 9p works as well as anything else, and hopefully might keep Ghost Whisperer’s audience.
My guess is that Mentalist was moved to Thursday in the event CSI crashes this season; such things have been known to happen after lead character changes. I could Mentalist becoming the 9p show if the CBS Thursday schedule suffers serious audience erosion this year.
WTF I AM SO ON BOARD WITH THIS – WHAT JUST HAPPENED????
Fall programming looks awful. CBS dumps ‘The Unit’ but saves the much lower-rated ‘Medium’ after being cancelled by NBC. NBC saves ‘Chuck’ and dumps higher-rated ‘Earl’. Fox dumps ‘Sarah Connor’ but saves the lower-rated ‘Dollhouse’. I know, it’s not always apples and oranges but these moves look convoluted and silly.
Where’s the EASTMANS!!? The EASTMANS is a smart, funny, thoughtful pilot with the best cast of any hour-long show CBS has put on the air (or rejected) in years. Bad move on their part! It deserves a second-look OR a better home on another network or cable.
CBS has all violence porn or porn violence. No stories. No characters to care about. Why would CBS do this to their brand? It is all so male centric. I thought 18-34 year old women were an audience CBS wanted. Instead they like their old white guys to watch. Off to cable. Bye!!!
I heard that advertisers were physically repulsed at the organ transplant show 3 Rivers last week at upfronts. CBS has made it clear they want to be they want to be a dude network. All inside pick ups too. NCIS the sequel? Give me a break. ABC is the only network I watch regularly. NBC except for 30 Rock and The Office sucks. We got Trauma, Miami Trauma, disgusting transplants…the Mercy show… about nurses….the trailer for that is like a soft core. You keep expecting them to strip off their uniforms and jump on the table to be examined. Women have gone backwards on Network TV for sure. But what do you expect from these millionaire white guys that have all the power?
I can’t believe they didn’t pick up the Eastmans!!! That is the one show that I was really excited about. Classic, stellar cast. Hopefully one of the networks will pick it up. Bummer.
