2ND UPDATE: Sources tell me the Frank Military pilot U.S. ATTORNEY is "looking strong" and "may start making offers".
SUNDAY UPDATE: I just heard word that CBS has renewed Jerry Bruckheimer's Cold Case for a 7th season. But Bruckheimer's other series Without A Trace looks doubtful.
Having CBS allow the medical pilot THREE RIVERS starring Alex O'Loughlin to start hiring writers would seem to indicate that it's now pulled ahead of rival medical pilot MIAMI TRAUMA from Jerry Bruckheimer. Not true, according to my latest information. I've just been told that CBS has given Miami Trauma the green light to "make staffing offers".
SATURDAY: The UNTITLED NCIS SPINOFF and THE GOOD WIFE starring Julianna Margulies were always considered locks at CBS. So hiring writers is usually a preliminary to a network order. I'm hearing unofficially that U.S. ATTORNEY may go midseason.
Carl Icahn Now Wants ALL Of Lionsgate
Whaaa?!
Looking forward to sitcom news. Ashley Jensen was great in “Accidentally on Purpose.”
I take it Back is toast? Bummer. While the premise is questionable, I looked forward to seeing John C. McGinley in another dramatic role and how he meshed with Sherry Stringfield.
Oh, well. So goes the luck of pilot season.
But what was picked up sounds…uninspiring. Hope they play better than they sound. Lord knows, not even Julianna Margulies’ “name” could save Canterbury’s Law, so I’m not hopeful that a similar show will fare any better.
Woo-hoo!!! Thank you, Nikke!!! So Three Rivers is to hire writers? OMG!!! I knew you’d scoop everyone else!
Amy V.
Yes! I can’t wait for Three Rivers! Alex is such a talented actor and this series should be a great place for him to show the rest of the world he’s not just a vampire. I’m so glad CBS has realized they have a treasure there.
I just knew that Three Rivers was going to be picked up – I can hardly wait to see Alex O’Loughlin in this fantastic new show!!!!!
“Three Rivers” is going to be awesome with the very talented Alex O’Loughlin.
This is exciting news, I hope Three Rivers gets pick up and we get to have Alex O’Loughlin back on TV!
What about Washington Field? Is that now DOA?
CAN’T WAIT FOR THREE RIVERS….GO ALEX…….
Any word on CBS’ veteran shows, in particular Cold Case?
Glad to see Alex O’Loughlin back on CBS. Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. Glad to see him on his way up. Plus I hear he’s hung like paint can.
Three Rivers a “go”? Be still my beating heart! I hope that this is true and not just a pre-upfront rumor. Alex O’Loughlin weekly? Heavenly!
I have missed seeing Alex since they took off Moonlight
(one of the most stupid thigs CBS has done). I hope they approve 3 Rivers.
THREE RIVERS starring captivating, extremely talented ALEX O’LOUGHLIN has pulled ahead! This is fantastic news, and I can’t wait to see Alex again on my favorite TV network on a regular basis!
This is great news, I hope we’ll see ALEX O’LOUGHLIN in THREE RIVERS on CBS Fall 09!
No Miami Trauma… i`m sad now!
Good luck pissing off Bruckheimer, whose product has placed CBS where it is; these are all home-made CBS shows and, pace Alex O’Loughlin fans, conceptually underwhelming.
Hope Three Rivers being on my screen for a long time. I miss Alex O’Loughlin and believe he will captivate our heart since the first scene…
Whoo-Hoo, wonderful news,I am so glad that they are seriously thinking picking up Three Rivers with Alex O’Loughlin.I have missed him not being on TV, he is a wonderfully talented actor,
Thank you CBS,and thank you for finding this out.
The wonderfully talented ALEX O’LOUGHLIN will flood TV viewers with his charm on THREE RIVERS. Can’t wait to see him back on screen. GO ALEX!!!
The Alex O’Loughlin fans are easily mobilized apparently.
Where were they when we needed Prop 8 defeated?
Yeah, Three Rivers for the way…..
I’m dying to see Kate Moennig again.
Excellent news about the Three Rivers pick-up. Now, I look forward to its cancellation. Can’t wait for the Moonlight/O’Loughlin wackos to go insane over it.
In any case, they prove Tassler right. O’Loughlin was the sole Moonlight draw – and not much of one in terms of numbers.
Despite O’Loughlin being a de minimis draw in the past, sane viewers should find this derivative show much more accessible.
I’m hearing U.S. ATTORNEY may go midseason.
Speaking of midseason, or half a season, the rumor is (and has been since before we wrapped earlier this year) that Old Christine will get picked up for a half-season this year and then another half-season next year, with us shooting all the shows this year.
oh, boy, here come the Moonlight kook squad!
As for Three Rivers, I don’t understand why we need another medical drama. I’ll probably skip it anyway.
Please, please don’t load this board with fanwanking. It’s really not where this should occur. I always rely in this place, of all places, for some intelligent commentary. That said, happy to hear Castle will be back. It took me a while to get into this show, but something made me continue to tune in. I think it was the great chemistry between the leads. It’s a Moonlighting for a new era. Now, lets hope the season cliff hanger kicks off a great season 2.
they just need to name “UNTITLED NCIS SPINOFF” now, as much as I dont mind development titles, the creative types really should have come up with a name for it.
Love hearing good things about Three Rivers. Alex O’Loughlin is such a talented actor and has so much to offer…..he is much more than just a pretty face (and what a pretty one it is!)…his portrayal of Vincent on Criminal Minds should show anybody that he can act & completely disappear into his character! Hope CBS finally realizes what a Real Deal Alex is & get him BACK on TV where he belongs!
I wonder what happened to that Washington Field?
three rivers in the lead… miami trauma coming up the rear… now miami takes the lead… it’s neck and neck at the turn… and down the stretch they come!
Why do vampire movies and TV shows always bring out the crazies?
Can somebody explain this Alex O’Loughlin thing to me? Every time this dude’s name gets mentioned, all these zombie commenters pop up on the site. It’s downright creepy.
Is it some sort of organized letter writing campaign? Like these weirdo superfans think that someone at CBS is monitoring how many times per day his name pops up online? Is it Scientology?
I just IMDB’d him. I vaguely remember him from The Shield. Nothing special.
I saw the set of Miami Trauma and worked on a few days of shooting as an extra and let me tell you its way beyond any of the crap I have seen in my 20 years as an actor playing roles and doing pilots of this medical nature. This show is not only stunning and visceral to look at, but the writing and acting is very compelling and sharp. If CBS passes up on this, they are obviously just sheep wondering about a field of mediocrity!
Any more ABC news?
Sorry, didn’t mean to intrude on the Alex O’Loughlin publicists retreat.
Come on CBS, please give Three Rivers a chance! Alex hasn’t let you down so far and he wont here either!
just because people are told they can “start staffing” is not a lock for a series order. it still depends who they get and many times, networks have been known to pull the plug based on poor staffing.
I actually saw a an early cut of Miami Trauma already, it was beyond awful. The inciting incident where the chief surgeon loses it because a drop of blood falls on his white sneaker then strips off all his clothes while he runs around the hospital will be a youtube hit because of how laughable it is. The new surgeon from Virginia with the thick British accent makes zero sense, too bad they couldn’t get Kevin Bacon like they tried to. I’d give it three weeks tops, but because of Bruckheimer maybe six, even he must know it came out a stinker.
Looks like Miami Trauma has been given orders to start staffing…still in contention.
WOW!!!!!!!
I so happy about Cold Case…is a great show with good music…thanks nikki and CBS for this wonderful news!
Nikki,
What about Without A Trace………
Nikki – Any word about Without A Trace??
Dear Huh: I’ll explain why Alex is so valued, he’s got talent! We like to see someone that actually has it make it in this business! Most of us thought that Moonlight would be renewed and when it wasn’t, were hugely disappointed. It was left unfinished. We want all of the actors, and everyone who was involved with that program to succeed, because they deserve it. If you werent’ into vampires, you could watch some of Alex’s other work and see that he is very talented, check out criminal minds.
This site used to be a valuable industry destination. Now it’s like the message board for TV Guide.
I agree with Huh! This sounds like an organized effort by Alex O’laughlin’s publicist and management and it’s downright creepy. I will expect him to be no less than spectacular.
Thanks Nikki for letting us know about Cold Case. I hope it’s true and that the show will be back in the fall!
How about The Eastmans…still alive?
To those types thinking there’s a bunch of “vampire kooks” popping up on this site when Alex O’Laughlin is mentioned –
To me, that’s not the case. Moonlight was okay Friday night programming (what do YOU program there?). Alex was eye candy for the girls; Sophia was the eye candy for the guys with the girls. The chemistry between the two was the real draw — not just one or the other.
As an industry professional, I could not fathom the lack of attention paid to the show by CBS. Plenty of promos for Kane & Viva Laughlin; you had to go to the web to find out if Moonlight wasn’t preempted this week. The show deserved better than what CBS gave it.
Hahaha… funny that people think all the Alex fans are part of some kind of cult! When really we just want to see him succeed, he’s very tallented, hard working and well… hot! lol
I really do hope that Three Rivers gets picked up, it would be great to see Alex back on tv.
To the poster wondering why Prop 8 won –
Prop 8 opponents organized spots by “Ugly Betty” star America Ferrara, a Puerto Rican native, in English.
Prop 8 supporters organized spots by REAL Telenovela stars, from Mexico, in Spanish.
THAT was the difference.
Demographics matters. All this niche stuff appealing to subsets of the White audience are not going to fly; and conversely Spanish-language/Mexican entertainment and culture are simply in different cultural and moral universes than that of the Westside.
As California becomes more and more Latino, it will be even LESS friendly to stuff like the anti-Prop 8 supporters. Neither Gay Rights nor the cultural/entertainment obsessions of West LA are particularly high on the agenda in Mexico. [I suspect O'Loughlin's appeal is fairly limited, CBS may yet regret greenlighting something that deviates from the Bruckheimer formula.]
Mexican origin/nationals watch Spanish Language TV [Check out Nielsen's excellent site to see for yourself] and there is about zero overlap with English language shows in terms of ratings and who watches what. This means there just isn’t enough Upper Class Whites for the “Brandon Tartikoff” approach to work — winners are broadly appealing to the White audience.
Mock Bruckheimer’s cookie-cutter approach all you want, it’s the only way anyone has gotten ratings consistently, the ad market just can’t sustain the Tartikoff approach (both declining wealth of Yuppies and their numbers decline make this inevitable).
More lawyers and doctors. Blech. They should call lawyer and doctor shows fantasy shows as they bear no resemblance whatsoever to these people in real life.
If “Cold Case” was renewed, does that mean ” Without A Trace” wasn’t?
What about “Trace?”
What is the possibility of CBS picking up Medium if NBC passes? I’m hearing rumors that NBC is trying to lowball CBS on the licensing fee and the number of eps, and CBS doesn’t want to play ball. And it’s not Patricia Arquette who wants the full 22 either. But there is talk that CBS would pick it up if they decided to pass on New Adventures of Old Christine. Any chance of that happening?
I just cannot believe that CBS are cancelling Without A Trace. Anthony LaPaglia signed for 8 Seasons and he and the cast deserve to go out in a more dignified manner. I think there is more to this than meets the eye.
Viewers like myself deserve closure on a show we’ve followed religously for 7 years.
But there is talk that CBS would pick it up if they decided to pass on New Adventures of Old Christine. Any chance of that happening?
Probably not, because Old Christine has been developing (evolving) well, and it will undoubtedly earn money if they bring it back. But, again, there’s a good chance that’ll be two half seasons (over two years), so there is room for other shows…
Thank you for keeping us informed as to the latest on the fate of Three Rivers. I will be waiting with baited breath until Wednesday’s upfronts are announced in NYC and hear that Alex will again be gracing our tv screens every week.
In regard to his fans, we are so very passionate because in him we have finally found what the Hollywood actors of the Silver Screen had in spades……old-fashioned charisma…… along with his undeniable talent for moving us emotionally by his performances.
Wishing him the very best in all his future projects,
MoonMaiden
I am so happy that Alex O’Loughlin will be back on TV each week. All of his work is extraordinary, and I know that Three Rivers is going to be fantastic.
Hallelujah, Alex is back on CBS. I had never seen him before “Moonlight” and after just watching him a couple of times, I became a Friday night fan. I’m excited he has a new series and I’ll be watching but it would be great for a second season of “Moonlight.” Way to go Alex!!!!!!!
At last, Alex is back!!! Loved him in Moonlight, and looking forward to seeing him again on Three Rivers.
