Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

It’s highly unlikely TSCC would have benefited from T-4 coming out. The intent was the opposite.
The obvious intent for WB producing a Terminator TV series at all was to server as a PR lead-in and attract new fans to the franchise before T-4 came out, and presumably also to maintain interest in between the subsequent movies.
Instead, the show did the opposite. It damaged the franchise (slightly) by being poorly done and not representing the franchise concept properly due to its overemphasis on Sarah Connor, the lack of sufficient action, etc.
That’s why the lid was nailed down on whether the show was canceled, even though everyone knew it would be – because they didn’t want any negative franchise PR before the movie opened.
That’s also why it was announced on a Sunday, when nobody but the show fans would notice, and AFTER the premiere of T-4.
I STILL would like Nikki to find out if WB is still interested in producing a Terminator series IF the series could make money and not damage the franchise concept.
