I'm told ABC demanded that Samantha Who? had to cut $500,000 from its budget per episode in order to be renewed. The show explored going from a single cam to a multicam. But in the end, the half mil was just undoable.

Comments On Deadline Hollywood are monitored. So don't go off topic, don't impersonate anyone, don't get your facts wrong, and don't bore me.
Please, that show was dreadful. Crappy writing made even worse by Christina Applegate’s insane overacting. Girl needs to learn how to dial it back down to 10 instead of being permanently on 50 on the acting richter scale. She and that show were an embarrassment. Now hopefully she’ll disappear into the abyss that is washed-up child stars and leave us alone.
Wonder what excuse they gave Ugly Betty? That show must be a huge ticket item with slipping ratings.
More of the same … people would rather not work, than make concessions. Hear that “VOTE NO” people?
Jeez.
ABC made a mistake with this one. Producers made every attempt at cutting the budget to meet demands. A show that was once lauded by the network as the number one breakout comedy of the year is gone less than two years later. Horrible programming. Networks just need to let shows breathe in one timeslot for one season. ABC ran this one into the ground. And it had a star in Applegate who is always all over the news stands! To renew Scrubs (another slap in the face to fans since it had it’s series finale) over this is nonsense.
$ 500,000 per episode? It was like killing it.
Hom much could cost a show like that?
To cut $500,000 from its budget seemed impossible to me.
Too bad. It was a funny show and Christina Applegate is terrific in it.
That’s a mistake. As a viewer that rarely watches half hour comedy, I really enjoyed this show. Christina Applegate is outstanding and Don Todd is one of the few writers who doesn’t think viewers are stupid.
Scrubs?????? Really??????
Hey, I know how to save some money, don’t show anything but a test pattern ABC! Oh, wait, they have been doing that for the past ten years now. Wow. And to think the idea is to be entertaining while making money. Can’t do either. Time to fold the tent and go work at the car wash ABC.
dear cleaning stuff up,
“More of the same .. people would rather not work than make concessions
hear that Vote No people?”
WHAT? The decision to stop making the show with a $500,000 cut in
the budget was made by THE SHOW’S PRODUCERS.
the actors had no say.
so how does the cancellation of this show have anything to do
with this wretched TV/Theatrical contract?
the concessions you seem to be willing to make include:
allowing non-union workspace
and the virtual elimination or residuals.
this will decimate the pension and health plans.
this makes sense if you are an AMPTP / Studio troll,
but if you actually are an actor,
you are selling out your future for a few pitiful short-term gains.
this blithe
