Next weekend’s “PRODUCED BY CONFERENCE” is already so successful that general registration is temporarily suspended due to overwhelming demand. Now the Producers Guild Of America is trying to accommodate as many attendees as possible. So check back on June 1st if you want to register.
Billed as a weekend of the latest information and innovation impacting the entertainment industry, the Produced By Conference at Sony Pictures Studios will gather in one place 100 of the most important producers in television and film “for an extraordinary weekend of discovery, learning and creative inspiration” featuring an incredible array of speakers, seminars, technology demonstrations, networking opportunities, social events and vendor displays. It’s called the Produced By Conference – a two day event where literally the most important producers in the business will be participating: Clint Eastwood, Jim Cameron, Kathy Kennedy, Mark Gordon, Norman Lear, Michael London, Davis Guggenheim, Carlton Cuse, Bruce Cohen– over 100 of us.
“There’s a story behind this,” one of the organizers, Marshall Herskovitz, tells me. “It’s about producers in the business getting tired of being misperceived, pushed aside, invisible – you name it – and therefore stepping forward to talk about what we do, how we do it, and why. And to give access to less well-established producers so that they can find their way in as well. Just the fact that this is happening in a business this competitive is amazing to me.”
Projects including The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Gran Torino, Wall-E, Iron Man, Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, The Amazing Race, Scrubs, Deadliest Catch, and the upcoming Avatar will be represented.
Panelists include Rebecca Allen, Darla K. Anderson, Ian Ballon, Jonty Barnes, Peter Bart, Fred Baron, David Beck, Betsy Beers, Thom Beers, Lawrence Bender, David Bloom, Stephanie Bohn, Geoff Boucher, Rob Bredow, Ian Bryce, Nolan Bushnell, Deb Calla, James Cameron, Katie Carpenter, Cean Chaffin, Marc Cherry, Joseph Chianese, Curtis Clark, Bruce Cohen, Roger Corman, Carlton Cuse, RJ Cutler, Lee Daniels, Debbie Denise, Ira Deutchman, Gaurav Dhillon, Lauren Shuler Donner, David Dozoretz, Jody Dunitz, Clint Eastwood, Richard Edlund, Chris Edwards, Craig Emanuel, Roland Emmerich, Kevin Feige, Lucy Fisher, James Flynn, Tom Forman, Ron Frankel, Mark Franco, Kevin Geiss, Jason George, Tim Gibbons, Shawn Gold, David Goldberg, Jeff Gomez, Demian Gordon, Howard Gordon, Larry Gordon, Mark Gordon, Nick Grad, Sarah Green, Joshua Greer, Daniel Gregoire, Davis Guggenheim, Roger Guyett, John Hadity, Clark Hallren, Buzz Hays, Marshall Herskovitz, Charles Howard, Arianna Huffington, Mary Ann Hughes, Gale Anne Hurd, Cynthia Kanner, Michael Kassan, Kathleen Kennedy, David Kirkpatrick, Hawk Koch, Yair Landau, Jason Langley, Greg LaSalle, Bill Lawrence, Earl Lestz, Norman Lear, Paul Lee, Richard Leibowitz, Paul Leonard, Ali LeRoi, Michael London, Starr Long, Robert Lorenz, Gary Lucchesi, Danny Mandel, Mark Marabella, Ed Marsh, Lori McCreary, Alex McDowell, Tracy McKnight, Mary McNamara, David Morin, Jim Morris, Kim Moses, Frank Moss, Ted Mundorff, Jonathan Murray, Lisa Nitti, Scott Nocas, Edward Noeltner, Erin O’Malley, Howard T. Isn’t this just special.
I hope nobody breaks their arms, patting themselves on the back.
I’m wondering if the seminars of “Saving The Planet Through Green Production Part 1 & 2″ and “Booking A Private Jet Doesn’t Have To Be A Production” will be hosted by the same speaker.
Hey top 100,
Congrats. Now how about standing up for SAG, the very guild that put most of your sorry asses on the map?????
Jonathan…brilliant!!
Panelists include … Arianna Huffington
Har har.
Seeing all these names makes me feel like they’re all listed on one poster. Nowadays if a movie doesn’t have at least 13 or 14 producers it’s not worth seeing.
I won’t go to any movie that has just 9 or 10 or 11 producers listed because there’s no way it can be any good. I think 17 producers should be the ideal number.
You simply can’t turn out a good picture anymore without more producers than necessary. Why don’t they have a seminar talking about this important topic?
Because 90% of the people listed above would be offended. Most of these “producers” aren’t real producers. If the Producers Guild wants to be taken seriously they need to start addressing this issue in a serious fashion.
Or is there some real need for seven Executive Producers and four Co-Executive Producers and three Co-Producers plus five names taking the Produced By credit?
Perhaps it is simply a case of Dissociative Identity Disorder???
Marshall Herskovitz is a remarkable guy who is working for meaningful protection of creative freedom, from Net Neutrality to re-regulation to artists’ rights. He has put his ass and his bucks on the line taking a stand against the media giants. This is an important confab where, for a rare moment, the industry can communicate in person instead of by rumor. Way to go.
Seeing the future in 3D? Jesus, Jim, what happened to you?
I think this is a group of producers trying desperately to prove that the title of “producer” has some meaning. I don’t blame them.
Oy. Those producers will all stand around talking to each other. That is what they prefer to do. This is not a terribly giving bunch. Are they getting paid?
The worst example is when fake producers work for actors so called production companies… hot mess
Yo – Santanaya: Shouldn’t you have at least waited until somebody actually criticized Marshall Herskovitz before you stepped in to defend
yourself?him?Touchy, touchy.
David Kirkpatrick? You gotta be kidding!
dear “Uber Producer”…
take a moment and recognize the difference between features and network television….
Hi Jonathan Shields, again. Honoring both your comments, who says you can’t pat a back in this town that hasn’t been stabbed [yet]?
so I hear it’s $400 for PGA members – it’s June 1st after 3pm (according to http://www.producedbyconference.com/produceby-form-v3-validate.html there should be more info as of now)…but there isn’t.
3hrs30mins late…ah well.
I heard it’s $500plus for regular mortals. I don’t see that it’s worth it
$400-$500 to collect a bunch of business cards? Now that’s my kind of hustle. hmph
wow…clearly you folks have *no* idea what a producer does, how the production business works, or how important these names are to those in the business. And.. you obviously have NO idea what the difference is between the studio and the producer…. educate yourself before you post such ignorant comments.
