Starting June 1, Hollywood’s newest talent agency will hold a series of staff meetings, interdepartmental meetings, and operational meetings to combine its two tenpercenteries. WMA and Endeavor will start officially sharing office space. There’s even a confab and cocktail party planned at the home of Ari Emanuel, WME’s co-CEO along with Patrick Whitesell and Dave Wirtschafter. Speaking of Dave, I’ve been assured that he is staying with the newly merged agency, and in fact is actively involved. On the other hand, as I previously reported, Irv Weintraub will not be making it to the merger, according to my insiders. As for Jim Wiatt, who’s been politely eased out with an Emeritus title (see my previous, William Morris CEO Jim Wiatt Is Exiting New WME Agency Before It Starts) he’ll be given an office in the old WMA headquarters for the next six months, and then he’s gone. By the way, I’ve pinned down the timing of when Wiatt found out he was history. On May 15, when his close pals, entertainment lawyer Skip Brittenham and former Viacom mogul Tom Freston, warned, “You have to resign, or you’re going to be fired.” Wiatt’s first reaction was anger, and then grief. And then it was, “What am I going to get in return?” Around $25 million. Also, as I previously reported, WMA unscripted czar Mark Itkin will take Wiatt’s WME board seat, so it’s still a 9-person panel with 5 from William Morris, and 4 from Endeavor (whose votes are worth 1 1/4 to make it equal).

Too bad about Dave! A missed opportunity to cut him loose.
Will Dave still get to wear sweatpants and t-shirts to work?
Typical of Jim to be angry. He’s a doof. As for Irv, Satan has reserved a special place in hell for him. Maybe a private plane will transport both of them…Wait until Endeavor finds out how self serving Wirtshafter is. He has the personality and demeanor of an ice cube.
I really hope Ari lets David conduct a interview with The New Yorker this summer talking up WME!
Poor Jimmy, made obsolete just like normal folk. No wait, not just obsolete but kind of a joke, a fool. That’s just sad.
Ari must have a high tolerance for idiots – he’s kept Smoller, Button, Slater, and Wirtschafter.
This was pretty predictable. All I want to know if if Jim will be going to the confab and the cocktail party?
The inside of wma is still insane. I walk past every office and it’s still doors closed. This leads me to believe there are more things in store for those who feel they are safe at wma. Everyone is figuring out how they can survive and will trash whoever they have to on the way up or out. Still wondering about Nicole David, I haven’t heard anything and I’m sure Dave is still protecting that old witch. Whose next to be cut at WMA, I hear there are still a few more on the list Ari submitted to the board and everyone is still debating. Itkin is well respected and a powerhouse so it makes sense for him to join the new board. The one that should be removed is John Fogelman and Grosslight, Dave and Itkin should get .33 voting shares more to make up for Fogelman.
What’s all this fuss about layoffs? It is our responsibility, nay, our honor as worker bees to prop these guys up and ensure that their wallets runneth over. I for one am OVERJOYED in knowing that people like Jim Wiatt get to walk away with millions while the rest of us can feel content that we have participated in something bigger than ourselves. I find it quite satisfying that a few people at the top always benefit tremendously from our hard work! We should all count it a blessing that we have had the opportunity to nibble on the crumbs that fall from the master’s table. So what If our humble homes go into foreclosure due to a sudden loss of income. It’s a small price to pay to ensure that we have not affected their bottom line. How awful would it be for them!
Jim Wiatt and his friends, (Katzenberg, and Skip ) are trying to spin that this was all in his plan, pre-meditated, and that he’s never been happier. Ummmm, people, a little head’s up – NOT BUYING IT!!!!! Saying it differently, he doth protest too much. As noted in Nikki’s ACCURATE report, he’s a desperate, and as someone commented, obsolete man full of sound and fury – but ultimately signifying nothing.
Note to self Jimbo – When you lose in the 12th round, on a fight instigated by your own design, don’t expect everyone to celebrate your victory. Not going to happen.
Wiatt brought Dave over. Wiatt protected Dave while everyone called for his head during that magazine debacle. How in the world can Dave stay at a company that treated his mentor like garbage? Throwing him out once the deal was done?
What does that say about the “ethical” Wirtshafter?
Anonymous, when you criticize Wirtschafter as having the demeanor and personality of an ice cube, trust me, that’s looked upon as a plus not a minus.
Just ask Jeff “Ice” Berg, the coldest man in the biz.
You are all right. All of the minor league agents and assistants should be kept. And all of the bigwigs with clients should get fired.
Smart.
You all should go run GM.
Say whatever U want about Ari, but he struck again. As for Wiatt, bitching about a $25M payout? Go hang out at that restaurant with Ovitz and Eisner!
What’s happening to John Ferriter?
@ Little Cheese
I can’t agree with you more. Everyday, a lot of us (creatives and crew alike) go to work, if we are lucky, and give our blood, sweat, and tears to a machine that, if we are lucky, we may be able to retire marginally comfortable.
Again, that’s if we’re lucky.
How many times have we stayed up late because the shoot went long? How many times did we stay up late waiting for that one inspired idea that can make the show a hit?
There is a place for the agent, the manager, the handler…but make NO mistake.
The fact he gets to walk away with $25 million dollars and writers and actors and grips and props struggle almost all the time – really and truly dumb.
hey F.; Eisner paid his dues for 20+ years building billions of dollars of value for shareholders and creating tens of thousands of jobs around the globe…wiatt, for all his faults, didn’t jump ship (or wasn’t offered the job he so coveted to do so) and is more deserving of his payday than Ovitz! that guy screwed the pooch like none before him and did it in like 17 minutes and walked away w/ $100 mil!…what a disaster that was…callin’ it like i see it
@ inside wma: I’ve been wondering about Nicole David as well. In your opinion, what leverage does she have, if any, to secure a place at WME?
Hey Mr. or Mrs. Anonymous, say what you will about Brad Slater, but he’s a nice guy. Worked his way up from Rick Yorn’s desk, and Rick and Whitesell are tight. Maybe that’s why he’s being kept around. Who are his clients anyway?
now that irv is gone, bagels will now be served with lox!
