UPDATE: I’m told OWN, the joint venture of Discovery and Oprah, is bringing in a new Head of Programming above Maria Grasso and Nina Wass. She’s veteran program executive Jamila Hunter. Last July, Hunter was named to the newly created position as SVP of Programming and Development for Alternative & Digital at NBC Entertainment.
And tipsters say Abbe Raven, the A&E Television Networks prez/CEO, will run that new joint venture partnered by Disney-ABC, Hearst, and NBC Universal reported yesterday. (See my previous here.) It would take A&E, History, and Lifetime and put them together with the 3 players. Lifetime’s Andrea Wong will report to Raven. The problem had been valuing individual assets, unwinding decades-old partnerships, and some tax liability issues. In other words, it’s complicated. Disney-ABC and Hearst each own 37.5% in A&E Television Networks and NBC Uni 25%. Lifetime is run 50-50 by Hearst/Disney.

Isn’t this like the 2nd big shakeup at OWN?
Jesus…yet another mistake by OWN/DCI. Jamilia’s a complete lightweight.
Shwing! Super cute, super nice, 1/2 the experience of the other two but possibly twice the creative instincts. Run Jamila, run!
Jamila is a first-class talent and a good person, looking forward to great things when my wife makes me watch OWN.
Ugh, no more Oprah or anything from the Harpo evil empire. Any one person should not have that much influence, especially when they’ve begun believing their own press and abusing their influence.
Crazy, she’s so junior and inexperienced.
Finally! Why they had two people with non-scripted experience running programming was such a mystery. Hopefully things will start to turn around over there. Hear it’s been quite a mess.
If true that will be very interesting…Andrea Wong reporting to Abbe Raven…she is NOT going to like that!!!
Quiet, naysayers – Jamila’s great.
At least she has non-fiction experience…those other two are clueless.
I have seen Jamila at work for about 7-8 years now….
She is a born natural and will rock the house in this job.
It’s nice to see the smart hard working people get ahead on the corporate side.
I love Jamilla. She’s smart, driven, and helpful, i think it was a great hire.
Jamila is a complete idiot with no creative instincts whatsoever. God forbid she makes a decision in a timely manner. Unreal! I wonder if this is a black thing. If so, shame on Oprah.
OWN is lucky to have Jamila. She is a true class act and anyone who doesn’t agree has never met or worked with her.
Anyone who speaks poorly of Jamila is clearly an asshole.
She will be missed.
Haters and Brown Nosers lurk on this site like fleas lurk on dogs asses.I love how they all seem to know everything about any executive.
Go Jamila! Thank God someone who doesn’t over think and still has a creative instinct to get in touch with. Excellent.
Jamila is a lightweight. I don’t know Nina Wass, but Maria Grasso has serious experience, in cable & broadcast, comedy & drama, and yes, also in non-scripted. She’s not a broadcast network scripted dinosaur — she gets it. She should have been named head of programming with Jamila reporting to her. Jamila’s role in the Bravo re-brand is overstated. Frances Berwick is the real architect of Bravo and brought in Queer Eye and everything else. Maria is a seasoned exec, has legit cable cred — MTV, Comedy central, Lifetime and should be running programming.
Please people, let’s remember Jamila was the GENIOUS behind that amazing show ROSIE LIVE this past season. Total hack who’s slid through the system.
Maria can’t get out of her own damn way to be a good Exec, tenure in this business has nothing to do with talent.
