CAA has signed TV writer Jenji Kohan, creator/executive producer of Showtime hit Weeds as well as Matt Weitzman, co-creator and exec producer of American Dad. Both were clients of William Morris worldwide head of scripted TV Aaron Kaplan. By the way, Kaplan’s new management first is called Kapital Entertainment, and he’s taking with him longtime client Darren Star. And what I toldja last week is now official: Tommy Lee Jones has jumped to CAA. All three had been William Morris clients.

Does this mean Randi Michel, Jenji’s high school friend and person who brought her to WMA years ago is out?
To be fair, all three had been William Morris clients; they were never WME clients. Their agents left or were dumped, so they exited for the CAA pastures.
Still, wins for CAA, but doesn’t quite feel like a WME loss.
I can’t stand Aaron Kaplan. No one I know can. How and why does this guy get someone so talented like Darren Starr? Go figure.
Hey, Confused… Maybe the reason someone like Darren Starr is with Aaron Kaplan is that he’s the kind of kick-ass agent who got Darren Starr to the point where he’s “Darren Starr”. You don’t have to be a lovable teddy bear to be a top-notch agent, you have to be hardworking, diligent, and not take any bullshit, which is the case with Kaplan.
Love Jenji because she’s she’s adorable, cute and very funny.

The remaining second class citizens of the former WMA are miserable. They have very little input into anything. The Endeavor guys continue to rule the roost. Ari is being Ari. Mean and rotten and still trying to put side deals together. Fogelman is being well John. He’s trying to be like Ari. Johnnnie it wont work.
When is consulting going bye bye
News from the front line. John Ferriter starting to call people. John is on the mend and should be back in a few weeks. Sean Perry and John will never get along. Sean start looking around for a new home. Jill Smoller oh Jill Smoller nobody at Endeavor understands what you do. Dave will not be able to use you as his personal valet much longer. Has anyone heard anything about Irv. How can someone like him just vanish???? Moany more fires are just around the corner. Consulting and Miami
Losing Kohan is really not that big of a deal. Her new show didn’t get picked up at Showtime, and WMA barely made any money off of Weeds. Her old agent Scott Schwartz sold the show and got a full package. Since Schwartz works by himself(since no one will work with the miserable SOB)all that packaging money, which could be anywhere from 20-50 mil goes straight to his bank account. Kohan fired him after the first season after she figured out how much money he was really making off the show. I would also bet money that Schwartz has probably never even seen an episode of the show.
That NYT article perfectly exposes Ari for what he is:
An insecure guy who gets nervous when he speaks in public (because he wants it so bad), and who is just trying to keep up with his more talented and successful brother.
This merger is going to be a trainwreck.
To: Justanobserver – Aaron Kaplan didn’t make Darren Star’s deal for SEX AND THE CITY – ICM did.
And I think Darren Star and Arraon Kaplan deserve each other. Totally.
Hey Marc, you’re right. They do deserve each other — they’re both successful. And FYI, Darren’s big money didn’t come from SATC. It came from the big deal he’s got at Sony. Guess who got him that? That’s right, Aaron Kaplan.
Hey Observer – you want a pissing contest (and please Nikki print this) –
they deserve each other because they both are similar. Darren ‘borrows’ ideas and Aaron ‘borrows’ clients. There does seem to be an overlap.
Justanobserver… ‘Darren’s big money didn’t come from SATC’… Hahaha. Dream… And when studios/producers are given a choice to work with a client repped by someone they like or one repped by an asshole, they usually go with the agent they like.
A.Kaplan is a libra, which means he is one of the nicest people to work with. He gets the jobs done with out stepping on people. Stop judging someone you dont even know.
