Only Jimmy Fallon knows why he’s so obsessed for a Saved By The Bell reunion show. (The claim is that Screech and Tiffani Thiessen have been holdouts.) True, for a certain generation, this show was low-brow iconic. Still, it doesn’t merit this kind of shtick. Then again, here I am writing about it. Last night Fallon had guest Mark-Paul Gosselaar who agreed to be interviewed in character as Zack Morris. I don’t know which is worst: That Gosselaar looked exactly like he did 20 years ago? Or that he’s so horribly miscast in TNT’s Raising The Bar which would be another watchable Steven Bochco legal series except for the fact that Gosselaar can’t act worth a damn?
UPDATE: Jeez, I’ve hit a nerve. The comments hating on me are hilarious.
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

Sorry, Nikki, but you can’t be hatin’ on the Bell. The return of Zach Morris 15 years later is one of the best things I’ve seen on TV in a long time, seriously. As others have said, this was THE show to watch on Saturday mornings for a large number of preteens/teens back in the early 90′s.
You are nuts!! Mark-Paul is a great actor…You are horribly wrong.
This could be a regular for Fallon, once he has achieved Saved by the Bell cast he can move on to another show. Sounds like a great way to improve his ratings over the long haul and bring old fans to his show.

What’s really tiresome is lawyer shows. Who wants to watch a bunch of lousy lawyers. Noble lawyer characters are pretty much sci-fi.
Also tiresome is Letterman’s ongoing Bruce Willis schtick. Willis’s one iconic movie was 20 years ago. He’s passé. As was his Diehard bit.
Last night’s show was like throwing on best of the ’80s with Stern and Willis. Old fart night. Apparently, their idea of gaining in the ratings last night was to rehash the past rather than try something inventive. Letterman needs to trust his current abilities and needs new writers. At least he stopped gratuitously hacking on his wife.
While there’s nothing positive to say about NBC, Fallon himself is a charming guy and his bit was probably fun if you were into that tv show. At least, there were two cute guys to look at. Hard to say though, as NBC is channel non grata. It’s too bad for Conan as he seems like a decent guy and might end up taking the blame for viewers banning NBC. What a relief to have Leno off the air. The late night air seems sweeter and everyone seems happier.
Jimmy Fallon won’t last but more than a year, as NBC has an out clause in his contract and his show is just so painful to watch. He’s been on the air three months now and he still stammers and can’t conduct an interview properly and he is not funny at all. I could care less about his obsession with that Saved by the Bell TV show but overall, his show needs to go or at least NBC needs to get their heads out of their ass and just boot this fool out the door, and the same should be said about Jimmy Kimmel and ABC too.
Why don’t they just run Saved By The Bell reruns in that timeslot, with Jimmy being the wacky “host”.
It’s not even that you hit a nerve, you just seemed to be criticizing something just to be a crank. It was opinion and it seemed like unnecessary hate for a perfectly fine comedy sketch. What bug crawled up your ass?
Grandma, apple pie, and Saved by the Bell. The three American institutions that are sacred and unassailable. Go move to Ecuador, Nikki.
@ Richard: Really?!? Not more than a year?!? I love it when people say someone is “not funny”. You just sound like an idiot. You could say that “I don’t find him funny” and you wouldn’t sound like an idiot, just someone with no taste. Jimmy Fallon will be a comedy icon!
Nikki, stick to the BUSINESS of Hollywood. It’s downright sad that you have ZERO pop culture credibility. That’s what happens when you show disdain toward anything creative — unless it involves labor contracts or other pissing contests.
I used to watch “Saved By The Bell” religiously, but after the first minute or so, the Fallon bit got really slow and painfully unfunny. No rhythm. Obvious jokes. Just painful.
And now they’re gonna put us through a complete reunion. By Jove! No more.
… and what is it with that lame nostalgia anyway? Sick.
Typical Fallon. His writers manage to come up with something funny and he mush-mouths his way through his lines and giggles and smirks when during the “timeout” routine.
Mark-Paul was spot on and great. He carried Fallon through and made it pretty humorous.
The Jimmy Fallon show might be funny afterall. If they just get rid of Fallon and find a good host.
yea, great bit last night…Nikki, go back to telling us the story of the Hangover again, you definitely have a boycrush on Bender and his craaazy stories…was American Wedding based on his life too??
Saved By The Bell + Dead Man on Campus + regular pocket checks from my father (we all had those, right?) = my childhood
@ B-B-B-B-Bayside! -on the money. This is one class reunion I will actually be looking forward to!
@ nikki fan
You have an obvious lack of spelling ability.
It’s spelled s-a-r-c-a-s-m.
The interview gave me some laughs. Brought back lots of fun memories. Of course I am one of those mouth-breathing, knuckle-dragging members of that “certain generation” who enjoyed this “low-brow iconic” show.
Why in the world would Screech and Kelly refuse a SBTB reunion??? It’s not like they’re working or have anything better going on. Besides, last time I heard anything about Screech he was failing at peddling a lame ass hot tub porno of himself and being evicted for not paying rent. He should be blowing Fallon for the opportunity, wtf?
A Saved by the Bell reunion? Really? And there are people on this planet sad enough to give a shit?
Oy.
Geez…I didn’t know that Jimmy Fallon had so many creative staff members!
twas funny nikki
Great bit. Loved it.
Funny how people complain when nothing changes then when people try something new…people complain.
that may be, but he’s no NPH…
Yeah, this Save By the Bell thing is the only thing Jimmy Fallon has going for him. He’s really not funny. he sucks very badly!
I’ve always loved Conan and I’ve always been pretty muched annoyed by Fallon since his SNL days (he still can’t hold a straight face when he’s telling his own jokes), but, as much as I hate to say it, Fallon’s show for some reason has seemed better than Conan’s since he took over the Tonight Show. Has he hired some writers from the Daily Show or something? It just seems like Fallon is hitting his stride, while Conan is awkwardly trying to find his Tonight Show groove.
