…The CBS Inc chief is saying privately that, of all the new shows his network is putting on the air in the fall, he thinks the spinoff NCIS: Los Angeles (like, duh, since the original is always in the Top 10) and The Good Wife will hit the biggest. As for rival networks, he thinks ABC’s Modern Family is the best of the rookies. Worst? ABC’s Hank.
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

“The Good Wife” are you kidding me? I couldn’t even get through it. Wee wee wee wee boring. I was fast asleep like ten minutes in, I even started it over and still hated it. But maybe the geriatrics will like it.
Best pilot I’ve seen across all the networks “Off Duty” still can’t figure out how it didn’t get picked up. Frigging fantastic.
Note to Les: Julianna Margulies is not a TV star anymore, not even for CBS’s geriatric audience. Not to mention that Fox already did this show as ‘Canterbury’s Law.’ It lasted all of six episodes.
Sweet. My friend got on NCIS. He’s one of the good guys so I hope it works out.
Maybe Les has the hots for Julianna like Ligouri did. A pretty face will make a lot of men pick up below average shows. Case in point: Emily’s Reasons Why Not.
Modern Family? Isn’t that a ripoff of All in the Family?
Ed O’Neill is Archie. Instead of a hippie kid (Archie). He has a gay kid.
BTW it had that cheap “video look”, just like “All in the Family”.
HANK was 22 of the most excruciating minutes of my life. I wish to god I could get those wasted minutes back. Possibly the worst comedy pilot I’ve ever seen.
Of course, that means it will be a hit, no?
joebrown: you’re dumb. modern family is great.
Hank is good. Les is dumb.
Les has an agenda, let me break it down. He is pisssed as hell that four upper level writers from 2 CBS shows went to “Hank.” So yes, Les might be routing for it to fail for his own agenda, but certainly not because it’s the worst. Don’t believe everything you read.
It’s amazing he can tell one CBS show from another. Has their similarities been the key to their success? Where’s How I Met Your Father, Guy and a Half and LetterZ?
I got to say Les is right on the money. This was by far the most dreadful pilot seasons I have seen in many years. Even worse then last year which had the strike to deal with. Every year there are at least 4 or 5 really good pilots I am excited to watch in the fall. This year there is at most 2 or 3 that I will watch a 2nd episode of. The bad ones this are excruciatingly bad.
I haven’t seen the NCIS spinoff(never seen an ep of the original either) but The Good Wife was definitely the best of CBS’ new pilots. Will I watch the show…no, I am not over 40…but I definitely think it will be a hit. Felt the same way about The Mentalist last year, and only saw the pilot of that show too. Worst CBS pilot by far was 3 Rivers which had to be the most boring, uninteresting pilot I have seen in years. Felt like a really bad episode of Grey’s. Les was also right about HANK, pretty much unwatchable.
You might think I sound like a Les Moonves lover, however I am pretty pissed off at the guy. I hear he is responsible for Showtime not picking up by far the best pilot I have seen all year, Tim Robins’ “Possible Side Effects” It was all kinds of awesome. If I was the president of AMC or FX I would definitely try to pick it up
Modern Family is by far the top network pilot, I also really liked the CW midseason show Parental Discretion Advised, really not too much else to recommend. Still looking forward to Flash Forward which ABC is doing a good job of keeping on the downlow
Well, all I can say is that the episodes featuring the new NCIS crew were the most boring of the season. I hope like hell they do some retooling to up the interest factor because it was painful to watch. Zero chemistry and I almost cheered when Chris O’Donnell’s character was gunned down at the end.
As for the Good Wife, I’ll give it a shot, but agree that Julianna Margulies isn’t the draw that Les and company seem to think she is. If that were so, Canterbury Law would still be on air.
The Jenna Elfman comedy looks uninteresting too. Seriously, if the promo doesn’t give one laugh, what is a full 22 minutes going to give us?
As for Three Rivers, I hear some retooling is happening to make it more character driven, so I’ll give it a shot. A cut and dry med drama would come off as just a documentary, so upping the interest in the personal lives of the med staff can help tremendously. I’m just hoping they don’t turn it into another Grey’s. Isn’t one silly, soapy med show enough?
Well…Well so now Les is in the “know” on these things. Yes, he still has a job, but he sure is no TV guru to me. The man could not even get his priorites right when he cancelled Moonlight last year. Yeah, I’m going there…Yes Les, nice, safe, predictable, (boring) shows are CBS flagships. I really have no interest in network tv and thank God for cable. Actually none of the pilots sounds interesting this year. I am a fan of A O’Loughlin, but even 3R is not rocking my boat either. Just some crumbs to throw at Moonlight fans…guess what not going to work if the show is lousy. Anyway, at least “Chuck” is coming back. Have something to look forward to besides cable tv.
He didnt pick up FishTank wtf? heard it was great
Brutal…brutal…if CBS loves Alex O’Loughlin as much as I think they do why can’t they give him a sure thing? The man is so enthusiastic and dedicated, he deserves to be star material. Hope the retooling works cause I want to see this man on my screen. That Elfman thing looks really awful but then again I’m still baffeled as to why Ghost Whisperer is coming back. That one has really jumped the shark big time! As for NCIS LA, I didn’t like the lady boss much, but will probably watch anyway. No interest in Good Wife, but that’s just personal preferance. And like GIGI said, yeah…yeah.. going there. Loved Moonlight, still do and always will.
