He died at UCLA Hospital at age 50. There is going to be a huge media circus (see below), but not here at DHD. So go elsewhere on the web for tributes to his talent and details about his death. I will sort out the business side of his career and not dwell on his personal life. There’ll be a link when the story/s post.

as it should be.
Jackson hasn’t been relevant for a generation, nevertheless he was an icon and it’s odd when people who help to define an era pass away.
You know, my first reaction when I heard he was rushed to the hospital was “Damn, I hope it’s not a children’s hospital”.
Sorry Michael.
RIP
What a troubled soul he was.
Nikki–who will get the first sit down with Jordie Chandler.
The gag order re: settlement must be over with MJ’s death.
The Michael Jackson who used to defy logic and wow us kids on American Bandstand and The Ed Sullivan Show died a long time ago.
This was only a very pale (pun intended) imitation.
RIP Mike. The actors and moguls who abandoned you is ready to embrace you once again. The vultures are going to shed crocodile tears.
No on tried harder to ruin their career and FAILED than Michael Jackson. Paul McCartney’s finally going to settle the score on this one baby
I’m not sorry to see him go. I think he was a psychopath and a pedophile.
It’s sad that his personality did not match his huge talent. And it’s always sad when a human being dies. But when I think of the damage he has left in his wake…especially the children, I’m glad he’s no longer around. I wish I could say otherwise.
So washed up Michael is dead. Bring on the LOL Cats.
Wow the entertainment industry was really rocked this week huh?
He had a lot of issues but man was he talented. I’d like to focus on Michael the entertainer. Thanks for the memories of my youth.
It’s funny that just the other day in a local drugstore they were playing a song Michael recorded when he was about 7 years old. That voice was like an angel and 43 years later was still playing over the radio.
RIP Mike.
I can take solace that MJ made most of the work he’s famous for before he started on the “other” chapter of his career. So my memories of his heyday are untainted
Truly one of the most talented people ever to walk this earth.
He will ALWAYS be The King of Pop, people give King of Rock and Roll to Elvis and he didn’t even create it. MJ was HANDS DOWN a better performer than him and did it since he was 10. He took the business to a new level and no one has or probably will ever reach again.
People nowadays brag about 5-10 million albums sold, how about 17 million of Off the Wall, 27 million copies of Thriller, 15 million of Bad, and 13 for Dangerous. Now THAT’S a star !!
R.I.P – Mike
i would assume AEG has some really good insurance to cover his non-appearances associated with london dates? I also assume this qualifies as force majuere?
So sad. Comes in threes again:
McMahon, Fawcett and now Jackson.
Well, at least heaven is going to have one hell of a show.
RIP
Universal is apparently still going through with the BRUNO premiere at Graumann’s Chinese, despite the fact that Michael Jackson’s star on the Hollywood walk of fame is right in front of the theater (they are currently not letting fans and mourners past heavy security)…
Seems a bit out-of-touch and maudlin to open a campy comedy hours after the death of such an icon.
I pity anyone who tries to sort out Jackson’s business affairs. The man couldn’t shop for groceries without it ending in a lawsuit.
I predict a nightmare of litigation upon litigation and tabloid revelations that will make the Anna Nicole Smith fiasco look reasonable.
You are right – I live in Westwood and the media circus is hovering right above my house as I type this – helicopters everywhere and why? To videotape the roof of a hospital. I have to say I am rather sickened by the gushing and rabid fans on the radio and TV – raving about how great he was – they keep using the term that he “touched” so many people without any sense of irony – ok, can one separate the man from his music? Sure. As a talent, he was a great singer and dancer – as a human – he was so twisted and damaged and people should not forget how truly weird he was – the sleepover with boys, the strange and dangerous hanging his baby over the railing, his repeated abuse of painkillers, the pedophile trials and lawsuits. He was a talented pop performer but this worshipping is a bit too much.
And a portion of that business side will be the Jackson family’s lawsuit against Entertainment Tonight for publishing a tasteless photo that shows a dead Michael Jackson receiving medical treatment.
Regardless, I am not a music fan but I know greatness when I see it. My best memory of Michael Jackson was his performance at halftime of Super Bowl 27. That was a wonderful performance. Rest in Peace.
Truly a tragic event. Michael Jackson, despite all his shortcomings, was undeniably the greatest entertainer/singer of his generation. It’s hard for people under the age of 30 to appreciate how huge his passing is. very similar to when Elvis died. In the 80′s Jackson was the number one celebrity in the world. His influence on pop music has been so severe, it’s hard to comprehend or appreciate.
His talent will be missed.
My grandmother always told me “Death comes in threes” how eerie, I didnt really understand why she said that but it fits this week…RIP Ed, Farrah, and Micheal.
Business only? Rumors are floating he left McCartney his stake in the Beatles catalog.
True? And if true, can the vultures be held off to get it back to Sir Paul?
Thanks Nikki for keeping it straight
2008 was the 3oth anniversary of the Wiz.
He was one of the greatest performers of all time, dancing, singing and giving homage to Fred, Gene and Danny. He will be missed and remembered like Dean and Monroe, as someone who left the stage too soon.
I hope to visit the Motown museum tomorrow in homage.
Wasn’t MJ up to his eyeballs in debt and living in Dubai? Did he pull a Ken Lay to escape his debts? Many suspect Darth Cheney will do the same if this war crimes thing gains traction. And how convenient that this occurs just when a philandering Republican governor is on the front page of every newspaper. Sanford who?
Gannon’s right. This is clearly a republican conspiracy.
“Greatness” “Icon” Give me a break! The man (and I
use the term loosely) was a pedophile, sexual predator, and loon of galactic dimensions.
Good riddance.
