Late today, Village Voice Media issued a very classy news release announcing that my Deadline Hollywood Daily website was leaving to join MMC. I’m so sad. I want to thank everyone at VVM for DHD’s past 3+ years: COO Jim Larkin and CEO Michael Lacey were great partners and great guys. Their support, including Internet boss Bill Jensen’s, contributed substantially to my website’s success. VVM has asked me to continue my print column for LA Weekly, where I work with Deputy Editor Jill Stewart who has been a good friend and expert editor. Here’s the news release:
PHOENIX, AZ - (June 23, 2009) – Village Voice Media, publisher of 15 alternative weekly papers in major metro areas throughout the U.S., today announced that Nikki Finke’s Deadline Hollywood Daily blog, which has been anchored out of Village Voice Media’s (VVM) LAWeekly.com for close to three years, is leaving the company for Mail.com Media Corporation.
“We’ve had a great run with Nikki and we wish her every success in the future,” Village Voice Media CEO Jim Larkin said. “She’s a top-notch and unerringly accurate reporter with great sources. We will miss her and are disappointed.”
“We are actively searching to fill the void in our daily movie coverage, albeit with a less trade and more populist bent — because we know, as we have known for three years of working with her, that no one can touch Nikki,” added Bill Jensen, director of new media of Village Voice Media. “But as with all of our markets, we have assembled a very strong Web team at LAWeekly.com, and the site has seen tremendous growth in the areas of food, music and nightlife over the past three years. That trend will only continue.”
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

I hope NIkki doesn’t go the “less trade, more populist” route. I already have a subscription to EW.
Money talks… I hope the site generally stays the same.
Congratulations Nikki! You deserve every success!!
VVM is all class. It’s sad to leave but exciting to think about where you’ll be going – to the next level. I, for one, can’t wait.
dear nikki,
we all wish you the best. you are one of the reasons i can work in hollywood and live in europe. i’m always on top of every in, out, up and down in tinseltown thanks to you. i have several times experienced that my agent have called me with news and i’ve been able to say, “i know already – nikki told me”.
your honesty has always been 100% – now own up: how much did they pay you? report on yourself too…
best, peter
ps. you deserved every dollar.
Congrats,Nikki
Classy press release by VVM. Obviously a sad parting for both parties.
congratulations, nikki.
Classy or not, Bill Jensen’s declaration that he wants to be “less trade and more populist” is tantamount to admitting, “We want to be just like every other rag.” A journalist who so publicly declares that he doesn’t want to be competitive is no journalist, and certainly no businessman. Nikki’s success is not because she’s the only, but because she’s the best.
wish nikki would stop writing about nikki and how awesome nikki is and that nikki “toldja.” kind of boring…
Enough of this bullshit. I wanna know how much Transformers made last night.
I think the classy thing to do soon would be to move on from the self-promotion and get back to “The Column”. And I say this kindly. Best of luck to you; now back to work.
It’s all about your huge ego Nikki. Huge!
Way to go Nikki! I could not work without you!
yes…
tell us how much you are worth…
otherwise how can we continue to trust you ?
