First, I’m amused that others are so behind in their reporting: I posted days ago that Harvey Weinstein successfully talked Quentin Tarantino into agreeing to cut down Inglourious Basterds. Actually, Tarantino himself was stung by the very mixed reviews coming out of the Cannes Film Festival, so he and his people knew the film needed more work. Now I have more to add about the The Weinstein Company’s meltdown. Yet another TWC film is getting lost in the shuffle – Hurricane Season with Forest Whitaker in his first starring role since winning the Best Actor Oscar, Taraji Hensen the recent Oscar nominee and white hot), and Lil’ Wayne who’s one of the biggest musicians in the country right now. Tim Story (Barbershop) directed the movie which tested at a 92 in Inglewood a few months ago. (Not that tests mean anything. So many bombs test big that it’s a completely meaningless tool.)
Well, now The Weinstein Co people are saying they can’t open Hurricane Season until they see how Halloween 2 does. Mind you not Inglourious Basterds which opens August 21st, but the Halloween horror franchise which the indie owns 100% and whose reboot sequel is slated for release a week later on August 28th. That’s now where they hope to make their money. Then again, remember that the only way Harvey could make Miramax high-brow was because Bob made low-brow Dimension into a cash cow. So now TWC has also re-scheduled Shanghai, a $50+ milllion production once set for release on September 4th, to the distant future. TWC may push off Youth In Revolt, currently scheduled for October 30th. And TWC had scheduled All Good Things for July 24th as its first pic out since February. But now TWC will be pushing that film to the 4th quarter. (“For reasons having nothing to do with the Weinsteins”, a source connected to the pic told me after the Weinsteins placed a call to him.) So now TWC looks like it’s ”hoarding” cash to be able to release both Inglourious Basterds and Halloween 2.

Where is “THE ROAD”?????????????????????????
Heh – I still remember about a month ago when they started quietly laying off people as they were in pretty deep shit pre-Cannes that they were PETRIFIED word would leak to Nikki Finke.
If the Weinsteins want to make some extra cash (which it seem they really need), they should release a DIRECTORS CUT DVD SERIES or SPECIAL LABEL and do right by all the filmmakers they’ve fucked over since the new company’s been in existence. They should call it: The Do Over Collection – or “Sorry, we fucked you artistically and thought we knew better but now we’re so poor we’d like to make amends” series. Too bad, they can’t go back even further to the Miramax catalogue. They should start with a CROSSING OVER director’s cut since everyone knows they destroyed what was a promising Harrison Ford movie. The theatrical cut (which felt like it was missing a whole lot of scenes – 30 minutes from what I hear, including Sean Penn’s role) hits DVD stores today with as little fanfare as when the film was released into a handful of theaters with no visible marketing. They should also release a DVD of the long promised KILL BILL: The Whole Bloody Affair. Get John Madden to release KILLSHOT the way he wanted to originally. And so on… The brothers just can’t admit when they were wrong. But then sociopaths don’t believe they’re wrong in the first place.
Any shop that has a client with a project up in the air with these people has a lot of explaining to do. It’s professional malfeasance.
AHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA at STILL deciding to open Halloween 2 on the same day as another R-rated horror franchise (Final Destination) and then scheduling a teen comedy for THE DAY BEFORE HALLOWEEN. Its because of thinking like this that their company is dying.
Grindhouse could have been successful if they decided to release them as two seperate movies and kept them at a realistic budget. Each one performed like a $50 mil grosser on DVD. The commercials sucked and explained nothing about the movies. Planet Terror had enough “Oh shit” moments that they could have done a creepy trailer and great commercials and done Dawn of the Dead business.
Zack and Miri could have done well but they decided to release it on the first time in years that Halloween fell on a Friday. The audience for Seth Rogen movies is all people born after 1980, you know, the same people who either dress up slutty and go get drunk at Halloween parties or go get drunk and ogle all the sluttily-dressed attendees at Halloween parties. On top of that, they come out one week before “Role Models” which is going after the same audience. They could have put it out in December on the weekend that Twilight vacated and played through Xmas, had no R-rated competition for laughs, and probably done $60-70.
Don’t talk about “OH THEY MADE SO MANY CLASSICS IN THE MIRAMAX DAYS.” Those days are over and back then they had people keeping an eye on them. What classics have they done in the last 4 years? In the 90s, they were making directors into stars. What young directors have they broken at their own company? NOBODY. Before Disney came along, they were on the verge of going under. This just shows what happens when you leave them to their own devices.
What about, NINE?
Can anyone say FANBOYS? Reading or listening about how they handled that film is a clear indication that they are idiots and deserve to be going under.
Their best days, financially, were when they had the Disney bankroll and Joe Roth as their ally. Once Roth left, they had no buffer from Eisner. And when they stated having costly under-performers like COLD MOUNTAIN, the end was inevitable.
Of course, the same was true of Eisner as well.
I feel bad for Tom Ortenberg.
HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YOU GOTTA LOVE IT! SLOB MONSTER-MOUTH HARVEY WEINSTEIN SWEATING BULLETS!!
FAILING! NO ONE AROUND TO SCREW OVER!
WE’RE watching the end of indie films as we know them – and that means the end of the Weinstein Brosthers. (try to get a national release on an independent film the way you could 10 years ago. Even the great Roger Corman, at yesterday’s Hammer Museum Conversation Series, said the independent film is gone as we know it. No one can get theaters anymore with BATMAN or SPIDERMAN taking over 4,000 screens in the country, even at the adult venues like Landmark’s theaters. The ONLY place for indie films now is selling direct online views; but that’s still years away before it becomes profitable).
So Harvey goes to Cannes and can’t really buy any movies to release anymore. He can’t screw filmmakers the way he used to. We all hope he fails. The line of people hating that asshole extends from Sunset Blvd. to Wall Street. We would dearly love to see the fat animal (and his brother) declare bankruptcy and turn both into Michael Ovitz II & III, with no friends anywhere. Let the pariahs live out their lives eating cash and seeing other people get their movies made. There are soooooooooooooo many people who would love to see the Weinstein’s suffer in forece retirement.
Sorry, I came in late. Has Kevin Smith posted to complain about “Zack and Miri,” again? Okay, check.
And to deebo’s comment, “professional malfeasance,” thy name is William Morris. Or at least, “was William Morris.” I’m sure WME won’t screw up careers like that.
Killshot sat on a shelf for years and then when it did come out it made how much?
$18,ooo.
Put a fork in TWC. They are done.
Couldn’t happen to a nicer pair of guys!
Heeheeheehee…
Hey Deadline Hollywood! Can you help the publicity to KEEP TARATINO’S FILM AT THE FULL LENGTH??? We don’t want it cut down. Seriously, we need some public help here.
Message to “Harvey Hater” Nothing could save your bomb from the critics, Wayne. A tired old re-hashed “Crash” peppered with your socialpathic need for moments of shock value. Try doing “The Cooler II” next time someone hands you a check.
Ha! thats totally Wayne commenting!! most of those movies people are pissed at Weinstein for dumping should have been dumped. they are bad. maybe if the filmmakers made a good movie they would have been properly released… yes this goes to you, killshot, fanboys, crossing over supporters. Put your bitching effort toward actually making a good movie in the first place! actually, don’t because then i won’t have any bitchy and whiney comments to read anymore and they are hilarious!
Wasn’t Harvey the one who gave m.night.shymalamadingdong his first ‘break’? He should burn in hell just for that.

RE: Rob Zombies Halloween 2
We, the undersigned, ask that Robert Bartleh Cummings (A.K.A. Rob Zombie), director of Weinstein Company/ Dimension Films upcoming motion picture H2: Halloween 2 reconsider the decision to take the sequel of the re-visioning of Halloween and The Halloween Franchise in the direction in which it has been directed.
We feel that Rob Zombies 2007 Re-visioning of Halloween took the film and franchise in a wrong but still salvageable direction. From the information provided by Robert Cummings on the sequel to that motion picture and the trailer released to the internet on youtube.com and movies.yahoo.com. It is clear that he is taking the Halloween franchise further down the spiral from which many fans feel there will be no return.
We feel that from the scenes of the trailer and information provided the film looks to be a mimic of a few combined horror motion pictures. We also feel that his casting of Sheri Lyn Skurkis (A.K.A. Sheri Moon Zombie) is not based on acting ability or merit, but due only to the fact he must cast his spouse in every motion picture he directs. Sheri Moon should be omitted from the cast and those scenes be corrected.
Another major concern for us fans is that it has been reported by Robert Cummings, other cast and news that Michael Myers will not be wearing the classic William Shatner based mask or any altered or re-envisioned concept of that mask for 70% of the feature motion picture.
We the fans ask that Mr. Cummings re-write and re-shoot the film with the deletion of the mentioned scenes and/or plot. We feel that Michael Myers is 100% evil without cause and should be left at that conclusion. If the film is released as it now stands it will without a doubt destroy the entire franchise and become a mockery of what Debra Hill, John Carpenter, Moustapha Akkad, Tommy Lee Wallace and so many others have immortalized in horror motion picture history.
Sincerely,
Halloween Fans
Oh how times change. Those angry, fat, nasty, vicious, tasteless brothers almost single-handedly created a legitimate indie film scene in America. Yes, they’ve outlived their usefulness and should move on (c’mon, fashion and magazines? guys, really?) but we must always remember the careers they helped launch, the money they did make for others (certainly the Oscar PR companies and studios) and the relevance they helped bring to foreign film in the US. As we watch them ride into the sunset, I know I’ll lift up my ten-gallon and wave it in salute.
After IB tanks Quentin should go to Imagine’s Halloween party dressed as Fonzie and give Ron Howard his resume. Quentin next foot scene will be Harvey on his hand and knees in Bob Iger’s office.
Finally saw Fanboys and I have to agree that somebody fucked up royally.
Not only is it a good movie but it just might be great.
What a waste.
Harvey should look to his #1 Director Troy Duffy for his golden egg.
I don’t believe the Weinsteins are tasteless – with fava beans and a nice Chianti they’d probably be quite good.
Thank some heathen pagen god for Nikki. Honestly I have been waiting to see these guys go down since they split Kill Bill into 2 flicks.. greedy bastards had their hands so far in the honey pot they couldn’t see the obvious end… it started before it began.
Rosebud.
