Casey Wasserman’s sports agency brokered the deal announced today for Radio Shack to sponsor 7-time Tour De France winner Lance Armstrong’s new American Pro-Tour cycling team. This past year, Lance’s comeback Astana team had trouble getting a backer and almost had to pull out of the 2009 Tour.) This will be one of the most talked-about sports business stories of the summer, and, more importantly, Lance’s LiveStrong Foundation will benefit from the partnership. The West LA-based Wasserman Media Group was started by the legendary MCA/Universal topper Lew Wasserman’s grandson. Screenwriter Gary Ross (Seabiscuit) was recently put on the long-gestating Lance Armstrong biopic.

This is NOT one of the biggest sports business stories of the summer unless it’s about desperation.
You know why the “greatest cyclist in history” has trouble getting sponsor?
American’s don’t care about the Tour de France and professional team cycling where the rest of the team works and sacrifices to help/let Lance win.
Ranks right up there with soccer on our radar.
Also Lance has been a bit of a tool in the media so who really cares about yesterday’s electronic store sponsoring yesterday’s news?
I think the real news here for most of the readers of DHD is that Radio Shack’s are still open.
I can’t believe it! Gary Ross? You mean an actual cycling aficionado has been tapped to write the screenplay about our country’s greatest cycling hero instead of Orci and Kurtzman?! I am floored.
God you are lucky you did a deal with Jay Penske and not Casey Wasserman, Casey is the most useless owner/manager and silver spoon person in hollywood…everything he touches turns to mierda!
