EXCLUSIVE: I’m told that CAA, UTA, and WME were in a feeding frenzy for the Oscar-winning actress, who has long been with manager J.J. Harris and didn’t have an agent. She’s one of the few Hollywood female stars who in the right vehicle could open a movie.

And that movie would be…?
Is this a joke? “She’s one of the few Hollywood female stars who in the right vehicle can open a movie.” Name one movie that succeeded BECAUSE Charlize was the star? No one has ever said, “I want to see that new Charlize Theron movie.” Ever.
Actresses can’t open movies when there are scarce few starring vehicles, or even interesting roles, for them to begin with.
Aeon Flux. Wait, no. Sweet November. Shit. Reindeer Games…? Uh…
[crickets]
Eh? She’s cool. Go Ari.
Assistants:
Be smart. Money follows success. Unionize.
Thank you.
The last movie she “opened” successfully was a DVD she got for Christmas.
Huh? I can’t think of any movie she’s ever opened big. The only movies she’s been in that opened big (or did anything) had a big male star or stars billed ahead of her.
you took the words right out of my mouth
Were you thinking of “Sweet November,” Nikki?
That’s quite a coup for them, I’m surprised she didn’t end up at CAA.
I love Theron, but when has she ever opened a movie?
So why an agent now?? Because jj is like having no management at all?
Aeon Flux!…wait. The Valley of Elah…no..
Okay, I am stumped.
Same question as Tom. She’s never really opened a movie yet, has she? She plays the pretty face in movies like Hancock or the Italian Job, but I never thought of her as a star. Most of my non-industry friends probably couldn’t name more than one or two of her movies, if they even recognized her name at all…
She can’t open any movie. Aeon Flux? Sorry. Monster? Eh. That was her one attempt to be serious by making . herself ugly. Charlize should be doing fluffy romantic comedies like Katherine Heigl and Jennifer Aniston. Charlize is certainly gorgeous much more watchable than Cameron Diaz but neither one of them are able to open a movie.
That would be … a good movie. Heck, Michael Cera can open a good movie. Nia Vardalos can open a movie.
I think what was meant is that Charlize can open a movie to a decent opening weekend gross for even a crap movie much the same way Julia Roberts could. That is until the word of mouth spreads faster than flies on…
Pre “Land of the Lost” Will Ferrell used to be able to open a movie and now it looks like Rob Schneider is a safer bet.
I’m also trying to figure out what movie that would be…!
She’s a damn good actress, and as Nikki said, “She’s one of the few Hollywood female stars who IN THE RIGHT VEHICLE COULD open a movie.”
She didn’t necessarily say it’d happened yet.
There are no actors who can open a movie. There are no Katherine Hepburns or Cary Grants.
A good movie with fortuitous timing is what opens a movie. Unfortunately, those are rare these days.
No one says they’re going to a movie because Will Smith is in it. They go because the movie has an intriguing concept, is well executed, and Will Smith or whoever was good in it.
I love her but when I looked up the top films of last year (20). I didn’t see any that she starred in.
Maybe you meant, “One day she’s bound to open a movie”?
lol. What? When has that women EVER opened a movie on her own.
The last movie she “opened” successfully was a DVD she got for Christmas.

HA HA! *raises glass*
She can’t open a movie. Look at the top paid actresses put out recently:
Angelina Jolie
Aniston
Streep
SJP
Kidman
Bullock
I wonder what the common thing is among many of these girls? Hmmm. But Nikki never gives credit where it’s due.
Wish you could run a studio, Nikki Finke. Greenlight this mystical “perfect movie” with Charlize Theron in the lead. See how long you last when those box office returns come in.
