The star of the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother will host and serve as a producer of the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards broadcast on September 20th airing on CBS. Yes, nice bit of synergy. “After having had such a hoot hosting the Tonys, I was thrilled to get the call about the Primetime Emmys,” Harris said in the news release. “I’m looking forward to the challenge of the show — adding my own voice to it, while honoring the nominees and the entire year in television. But which voice to choose? I’m torn between gangsta, foppish Brit, and robot. Really proud of my robot. We’ll see what happens on the night.”

Just please NOT GANGSTA.
Thank you for your understanding.
he is adorable and funny. looking forward to it.
NPH should plan on hosting the Tonight Show when Letterman is gone.
Funny how Neil Patrick Harris was first tapped to host the 2009 Writers Guild Awards this past Feb – then after that successul gig, he went on to host the Tonys, TV Land Awards, and now the Emmys – the Guild has good taste!
Craig “No band, no announcer, leaky studio, not in HD” Ferguson is probably thrilled right now.
Wow – he went from hosting a show that 10 people watched to a show that 25 people watch! Good Going Doogie
He actually used the word hoot? Um, yeah…
Saw him live hosting the WGA Awards earlier this year and then the TV Land Awards, he was fantastic both times.
Producer? Have I missed something (besides the Tony’s of course, cause no one watched those)…is that normal?
This is great news. Really like him….
I’ve worked on two award shows with Neil Patrick Harris and he was a joy to work with. No attitude and doesn’t panic if something goes wrong. (Like getting burned during dress rehearsals). I also saw him graciously signing autographs for American Idol audience members when he attended last season. I think he’s a great choice for the Emmys.
What, Andrew Dice Clay wasn’t available?
I have a huge, straight man crush on NPH.. Though I couldn’t care less about awards shows, it might be worth tuning in..
ps: his RiffTrax commentary on _Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory_ was pretty sweet..
Oh Hiiiiii Doogie!! Don’t worry about it!
Hooray for Dr Horrible!
Any chance we can draft him for the Oscars?
Even before hosting the 2009 WGA Awards, Neil and Kristen Chenoweth hosted the 2008 Primetime Emmy Nomination Annoucement. He did a terrific job and many took notice.
NPH has had a very good history working with people during his career. It is so heartwarming to see that you can be employed in this industry called ENTERTAINMENT as an OUT gay man. Kudos to the Emmys and congratulations to NPH.
