I hear Josh Brolin on Monday will get an offer to star as the villain in Oliver Stone’s Wall Street sequel. Fox’s first choice was Javier Bardem, but he turned down the stock-shorting hedge fund manager role. And, with the film’s start date fast approaching, I’m told that Stone and screenwriter Allan Loeb (21, Things We Lost In The Fire) also have finally locked the script. In fact, Oliver and Josh, who did W together most recently, were overheard at dinner earlier this month talking about the screenplay. Brolin would now join co-stars Michael Douglas, reprising his Best Actor Oscar-winning role as Gordon Gekko 21 year later, and Shia LeBoeuf. More background here.
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

What about Darryl Hannah? She could play the thrice-widowed former decorator turned Manhattan madame whose Rolodex reads like a Who’s Who of New York high society. She teams up with disgraced jailbird Gordon Gekko and they threaten to go public with the black book unless they’re paid off handsomely. In the end, Hannah ‘hangs herself’ like that DC Madame supposedly did after she threatened to expose her Washington powerplayer/Congresional clients. Can you say Oscar?
Is Gordon Gecko the Hero of Wall Street 2?
That’s fucked up.
Josh Brolin is no Javier Bardem. Why did the producer so stupidly imply Bardem was locked, sealed and delivered before they’d even bothered to approach him first? Clearly, the producers are desperate to make people think this movie is finally going to happen (which it’s failed to do for years for various reasons including the shitty script and the fact Michael Douglas can never make up his mind about anything now that he’s lost his touch) by making asinine casting announcements before they’ve bothered to approach the talent. This movie is going to bomb just like every other Oliver Stone movie has in the past 20+ years. The story sounds like a campy Lifetime flick. Who gives a shit about Gordon Gekko if he’s just sitting on the sidelines like an old woman sitting on her front porch?
Why is it fucked up that Gordon Gekko would be the hero of WS2?
I think it takes a page from Michael MIlken….

I love all of these negative comments by these “armchair producers”, especially those in the earlier related story. Everybody thinks they know what will work and what will “bomb”. Let me be the first to say – you guys know shit. Otherwise, you all would be the greatest filmmakers of all time. And I doubt if that title follows your name.
So (and I echo another post from the previous story) – why not wait until the movie actually comes out before bashing it? Why not actually see the movie first before stating that it’s going to be a “bomb”. Who knows? You may actually like it.
Josh Brolin is a star in the offices of Hollywood and nowhere else.
Do keep trying though, it so delightful to watch him fail.

Lytton, why would you take pleasure in someone elses failures. You need mental help.
I’m just shocked that Oliver Stone can still acquire financing for his film projects. Only in Hollywood can you fail, fail and fail again …yet still be given another chance to throw away millions of dollars. Maybe other celebs will persuade him to run for Prez next, they’ve made it abundantly clear you don’t need a successful resumé for that gig either …just be a left-wing, anti-American nut case.
Darryl Hannah? Isn’t she still in rehab?
Just when you think the financial crisis could not bring about more bad news, they bring greed back into the picture….

World Trade Center (2006) – $160 million
What is exactly 20 years in your universe?
My guy feeling at this point, is that the film will be only slightly better then Basic Instinct 2.
Poor Brolin. He is a great actor, but maybe getting a little criticism backlash because subconsciously everyone knows he’s repped by Michael Cooper who everyone despises. Brolin should get a new rep so he isnt attached to that evil man named Michael Cooper.
Its a movie that I’d see opening day. Oliver Stone must be a grandfather by now with A LOT more wisdom under his belt. . .
“under his belt,” come to think of it, reads a little weird.
This isn’t going to turn out well. Why does Wall Street need a sequel? The themes and ideas are still relevant today. Now what is going to be about, toxic mortgage assets. Yes that will be timeless.
I hope they can get Charlie Sheen for the Platoon sequel.
Redmenace, if you believe World Trade Center made a dime in profit, I’ve got a bridge I want to sell you. LOL! A sequel to Wall Street at this point is going to get a response similar to the also ridiculously late sequel to another Michael Douglas flick Basic Instinct 2. The fact that Douglas now looks like an old yenta doesn’t help matters either. When was the last time Douglas had a hit? Certainly not this century. Stick a fork in it. He needs to focus on carrying Catherine Zeta-Jones’s purse from now on.
“Redmenace, if you believe World Trade Center made a dime in profit, I’ve got a bridge I want to sell you”
I smell one of those, “I’m a Hollywood Insider” claims coming.Let me guess, you know the “real numbers” for the World Trade Center movie…
*sigh*
Oliver Stone’s last decent movie was “Any Given Sunday.” His last great movie was “Natural Born Killers.” “Wall Street 2″ is the sequel that will join the ranks of washed up sequels like “The Evening Star” and “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.” Michael Douglas has lost his touch and the story just isn’t relevant. Maybe Javier Bardem is the only one that can smell this bomb.
I agree with the statement that Brolin should get a new agent. I am a Josh Brolin fan and proud of it. He stuck around for over 20 years to be rediscovered all over again. He needs to get a new agent though because I agree that Michael Cooper at WME is a horrible human being and only has his best interests at heart not Brolin’s. Cooper (or “coop” as he is called – god I hate this guy with passion) inherited Brolin from Steve Dontanville and got lucky. Cooper and his horrible father are the most spoiled people in Hollywood. Hard workers they are not. Spoiled they are. Go Brolin!! Go get new repps to get you a better feature project. Wall Street 2?? Please…
JD, nobody knows what works. Most recent Hollywood propaganda pieces have failed. This will work because of Douglas and the overall hate for Wall street. People will go like sheep to the theaters and have their hate fed thus believing they have experienced truth. Once again Hollywood will make money for doing nothing important. Let the drug and hedonism run like water in Malibu.
-Of course the circle-jerk worshippers of Stone
will rejoice. As for the rest of us? -Well -with
the US now entirely underwritten by the most genocidal
regime in human history—across the Pacific
-and Hollywood colluding in hiding the FACT of
70,000,000 slaughtered there in ‘peacetime’
—-gosh -I think our ‘daring outsider’ -son
of a stockbroker -former Yalie -always rich
-Oliver Stone -might’ve had something more fresh
to offer.
