Meanwhile, Fox has already crossed the $1 billion international mark:
HOLLYWOOD, CA (July 9, 2009)– Record-breaking results from worldwide hit “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” and the spectacular success of Star Trek have vaulted Paramount Pictures Corporation past the $1 billion mark in domestic box office revenue. Based on figures through July 7th, “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” has grossed $305.5 million in just 14 days and “Star Trek” has grossed $250.3 million.
"This year has been marked by two great events for our studio: the rebooting of the Star Trek franchise under JJ Abrams and the immense performance of Michael Bay’s Transformers sequel," said Paramount Chairman and CEO Brad Grey. “These tentpoles performed wonderfully for us this year and we are excited for what they mean for our business in the years ahead.”
Carl Icahn Now Wants ALL Of Lionsgate
*gag*
Great! Now they’ll do some more layoffs due to “tough times.”
It’s a little sad that such a poorly written, acted, directed movie like Transformers can make soooo much money! (note, the below the line work in the film is excellent)
All this money at Paramount, and Hollywood still seems like it doesn’t have any job creation.
And this is the second year in a row that they did this feat. Congrats on this achievement!!!!!!!
How much did they have to spend to cross that mark?
Bring on the SAG crybabies…
Yeah, *sigh*, only $1 BILLION – halfway through the calendar year. Those poor, poor broke studios. They should fire more people and pay the actors and crew even less so they can afford to stay in business.
We have all forgotten just how much money ONE MILLION dollars is, not to mention one BILLION. $1B equals ten HUNDRED million (or one thousand million, if you will) dollars.
And still they cry ‘poor’.
Lay off more people Mr. Grey
Didn’t they just get rid of the exec in charge of rebooting Trek? Nice job!
Yippie!!! Let’s lay off some more people and cut the craft service budgets.
Hey anonymous…why not take it a little further? Instead of just gagging why don’t you choke?
Unfortunately, due to the recent increase in sunspot activity, the unpredictability of the moon’s gravitational pull, and other factors to be released at a later date, the layoffs will continue as planned…
1 billion. Go Paramount!
Hey everybody that voted this new SAG contract in, great job idiots. It’s so nice to see how big the pie actually is that we will never have a piece of. It’s kind of mind numbing.
Oh that’s right. You’re minds are already numb.
Do you think they will actually get into the movie making business again with all that money?
Let’s not forget that’s $1 Billion is gross REVENUE. Paramount did not “make” $1 billion–that’s not profit. You have to subtract all their costs to determine that. Such as actors, directors, below the line salaries, production, F/X, distribution, marketing, etc. I’m not defending Paramount or its business decisions, just trying to make the facts clear.
Oh how WONDERFUL for PPC.
Now maybe if they lay off even MORE people then they can use some of that profit to take a bath in.
