Isn’t it amusing how Jeff Zucker couldn’t find one positive specific to say about Ben Silverman in the official NBCU news release this morning beyond “Ben brought us tremendous new thinking in this changing media age”. Because Silverman leaves behind a record of abject failure. (By the way, the coming fall season’s primetime network development was taken out of Ben’s hands and put in Angela Bromstad’s. And, voila, the first decent programming.) Instead, some really talented NBCU executives were let go in a vainglorious attempt to prop up this dumbass. Oh, but who needs NBCU when Ben has Ryan defending him on Twitter:
First — Some biz ent news going to break this morning that will impact shows and stars. It will have impact one major network immediately
Second — guy that runs nbc- put office biggest looser etc on is leaving to launch a new studio. Bringing together most creative stars and producers
Third — This means better shows from our favorite stars in u.s. and around the world. Ben silverman just filling me in. This is big news in hwood
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

Ryan Seacrest– my FIRST stop for ALL my entertainment news! Given his own pompous sign-off history, Seacrest should have just twittered “SILVERMAN– OUT!!!” instead.
I want to print out Ryan’s Twitter and re-read it when I am having a crappy day. Best. Tweeting. Ever.
The Winter Olympics are only a few months away. I cannot wait to hear Ben’s call to Ryan’s radio show. Once again, thank you for making my day Nikki.
All I have to say is that Zucker should be prepping his golden parachute. He spent a lot of political capital, and investor’s value, keeping Silverman in place because it pretty much kept anyone who could possibly replace Zucker himself, out of any position of power.
With Silverman goes Zucker’s safety buffer.
Is Seacrest really this vapid, or does he just cynically assume his fans are?
Or is his hair actually doing the Twittering?
So what’s Silverman gonna really do now? It’s obvious they were happy to see him go but lying about that cause they know he sucked at his job. What about Zucker? When is his head gonna roll?? If ever???
Is 5 primetime hours a week for Leno really decent programming?
is it seacrest on twitter, or seacrest all Atwitter?
Ryan Seacrest puts the “Twit” in “Twitter.”
Ryan Seacrest – I was thinking this morning how quickly people rise in this business. The guy was a nobody, couldn’t get arrested in this town and now 45 mil deal and breaking news via his blackberry. He is a worker though, no one can deny that.
Ben Silverman – surprised it took this long for him to leave.
Thank God Ben is gone. This guy is the luckiest man on the planet followed by those two dopes Mark Koops and Howard Owens who remain behind at Reveille. Every single idea that company has produced was created elsewhere. The Biggest Loser was an idea that was stolen in a pitch the week Reveille opened….Good thing the company;s name isn’t Original Content……
Ben Silvermnan never was in the office at NBC anyway. He was always either at SNL after parties, at the beijing olympics after parties, “in the NY office” (AKA in rehab), at the emmy after parties, at his own parties…. he was too busy being ben silverman to actually contribute anything to the NBC schedule this year.
ByeByeSilverman, if they’re fans of Seacrest, they must be pretty damn dim.
Coke Snorting Monkey – OUT!!!
Here is Ben’s quote in Ad Age “Having run a talent agency and then being inside a media company it was becoming clear to me that the businesses are siloed and those need to be broken down,” he said. “This is something the media companies are going to have to do more and more but it is going to take them longer to do it because they have to support the entrenched system as well.”
This ego maniac thinks he ran WMA!!! We was an AGENT who brought British successes to America!!! He’s a genius!!!!! Obama beware!!!
Walter Cronkite may have died but thank God we have Ryan Seacrest to carry his work forward.
“Dumbass” is actually rather high praise with respect to this lazy, narcissistic drug-head. Nice to see his tedious schtick finally wore thin. Charismatic, for sure, but, as noted by a previous poster, his success was really all about timing, being over in London in the mid to late ’90s, taking material that had succeeded over there and repackaging it stateside (bear in mind, many more failed than succeeded — anyone remember “cracker?” I didn’t think so). Jerry Katzman, a very odd old bird in his own right, was thoroughly devoted to the guy and in turn gave him carte blanche. What Benny did to enjoy such treatment I can’t definitively say but, along with many WMA employees in the late ’90s, I’ve got a pretty good idea……
“put office biggest looser etc on” Please Ryan, enlighten us as to this “etc” you speak of. (Also, my biggest pet peeve right now is people who type “loose” instead of “lose,” for some reason it is incredibly common and it drives me crazy.)
Good riddance to bad trash.
“Is Seacrest really this vapid, or does he just cynically assume his fans are?”
Both, and they are.
He’s such a non-entity. A fugly robot with no discernable talent, wit or personality. But boy, he’s good at showing up. That apparently takes you far in some circles.
These two are major players in entertainment production and content? Eeeww.
What hath we wrought, America?
I’m sorry, but saying that “By the way, the coming fall season’s primetime network development was taken out of Ben’s hands and put in Angela Bromstad’s. And, voila, the first decent programming.” reveals some surprising naivete coming from an industry site like this. Everything on the fall schedule was developed long before Bromstad got there, largely by the team of people who were all unceremoniously fired in December. She may have had something to do with ultimate choices and obviously will oversee the launch, but she didn’t buy or develop one piece of that programming. And incidentally, we have no idea at the moment whether any of it will prove to be “decent” or not. Either way, no one with any kind of insider knowledge should either blame or congratulate Bromstad for any of it.
Nikki, you called this so long ago I couldn’t beleave this NBC family stayed toghether this long ? Failing up is always par for the course but predicting both the failing and the course is rare . You rock Nikki and you have made this call for so long it’s a hoile in one . I also think people should take note of how big SEACREST really is , he’s easy to mock but he keeps growing without ageing ( dick clarke on cials) .” Nikki you’re so fine you’re so fine you blow my mind , hey Nikki”
It’s “Biggest LOSER,” you twat, not “LOOSER.”
Why isn’t Bonnie Hammer the boss or Co-President with Gaspin? Look at the amazing job she’s done with The USA Network.
responsible for putting the office and the biggest loser on??? Also, Ryan’s bitter because Silverman was the only major network executive that took him even close to seriously, MOMMA’S BOYS, anyone? Stick with E, they seem to be willing to let you walk into pitch meetings with excrement on a legal pad and put it on the air.
