Today this email went out from WME board member Rick Rosen:
"We want to welcome everyone to their new WME Offices... I know this is challenging, anxiety provoking and at times nerve wracking for many of us. Many of our offices (including mine) are smaller than our previous offices, and some offices don’t fit all of our furniture. I think we should all take a deep breath and give this an opportunity to work itself out. The most important thing is that we are finally all together in the same building and have the opportunity to truly work as one company towards our common goal – to achieve great success in making this the greatest agency possible. Hang in there and welcome to your new office. Thanks for your understanding."
Did Ari’s guillotine get stuck in a doorway?
1 Building…I swear it was still 3.
more like welcome to a sinking ship, look out for icebergs ahead!
No, thank you, Rick. You have to deal with a smaller office, we have to deal with being worked like slaves for less money than our already pathetic salaries. We’re all so excited about that, I can’t tell you. My gosh, when I read you/we signed Charlize Theron over the holiday weekend, I thought to myself, ‘big fucking deal.’
(See, that’s what happens when employees are treated like shit).
Oh, and those cheap-ass hats and tshirts with the new WME logo – I donated them to a homeless shelter. It will do more good there than sitting at the bottom of my trash bin, rotting.
Tell me, does Ari still make his assistants play fetch like a dog?
WAAAHHHH
please.
Oh,your offices are tiny?… Cry! Take a look at your bank accounts next time you actually want to be pissy. Jackasses.
Are any of you in the business? Do any of you hope to have a bigger office as a reflection of a bigger job and more income? Rick’s email is classy and reflective of his management style. There’s a lot of blood on the streets for sure, and people are pissed off, but come on. This is a fair email. Let’s all grow up.
Classy?? Classy??? C’mon AC, there’s nothing classy about a hostile takeover of a once prominent piece of hollywood history. Wow, I guess you’re not suffering are you?
Will the same 15 people whine on every WME-related post for the rest of time? We get it – you’re bitter, it’s been noted.
If you put 1/8th of the energy spent whining into applying to one of the other three agencies or a 2nd tier firm, you’d be employed.
Also, @AC, you’re 100% right. This was a well-written and thoughtful email from RR.
Everyone is not together in the same building. Not only are there two other “WME” buildings in BH, there are buildings in NY, London, Nashville, Miami…I mean, really? Will you old Endeavor people ever get it? What (another) slap in the face….Someone should teach Masoud how to email only the people in the Wilshire office….learn what “ALL” means…
I agree with AC. Their are plenty of other threads that touch upon the “many injustices” that a good number of you people feel you’ve fallen victim to… Park your comments and make your cases there. Don’t be fickle and start bitching for the sake of bitching. And “Anonymous (6:01pm)”, your comment about “checking your bank accounts next time you actually want to be pissy” doesn’t even make sense… Why, because someone is financially successful they can’t strive for more? That drive is probably why they are successful in the first place… You must be quite a charitable individual if a big bank account doesn’t put a shit eating grin on your face. Unless you live on a commune and barter goods/services for food, you need to have a little cush in the bank. And “Anonymous (5:00pm)”, no one is forcing you “to deal with being worked like slaves for less money than our already pathetic salaries”. You chose this job so, and correct me if I’m wrong, but so you could eventually get to perch your ass in that “big office that fits tons of furniture”… Its a tough business, buck up and figure it out! One thing is for certain… crying isn’t going to get you anywhere any faster…
One of my favorite July 4th happenings are the Malibu BBQs where drunken agents reveal more than not-drunken agents. At one such fete this past weekend, a buzzed formerly-WME-now-WME2-slickster was blurting on about the “true story” of Jim W’s exit. Said that the WME board was so furious about how Jim drove the place into the ground and ruined the company’s legacy that there was no option but to merge with Ari and Co. Said that Jim W was fired BEFORE the merger was sealed but the PR spin of his ousting was to let him – and WMA – save face. Oh, yeah, they hate Jim so much but still paid millions to avoid further legal wrangle and dirty laundry airing.
Can anyone verify this account?
Just go back to work, you non-essential pricks and forget about your fucking offices — get your clients jobs. That’s right “The Clients”. All you flesh-peddlers need are your Blackberries and your Mochachinos. Pace around the parking lot in the heat for all I care… Now GIT — go git on the phone and do your JOB.
Oh, I’m sorry — its Summer. That’s right, you don’t pretend to work until after Labor Day.
Whoever is wondering why their paychecks are so small… SIGN NEW TALENT, SELL SOME MATERIAL make the GELT! Don’t just SIT THERE waiting for Charlize to fart out a nice commission to float the non-producers in WME!
You bastards should work on commission ONLY. That’s how we do it. WE work — WE earn. You sit there and wait…
Remember, agents don’t make movies — TALENT makes movies.
Biggest mistake to ever hit Hollywood. Small offices. Small thinking. Small you know what. I give this merger 5 months. Tops. It’ll all hit the fan soon. Mark my words.
Oh nooooo, waaaahhh smaller offices, what ever are you to do? Instead of getting jobs for your clients, you guys should instead all sit around and bitch to each other for 3 weeks that you can’t fit your credenzas into your new “home.”
What’s next? No french vanilla creamer for our coffee machine? Oh the humanity!!!
Well, there’s only one thing to do… decrease your assistants salaries again, that would probably make you all feel better. c’mon, you can do it, you know you want to…
And if you are from the WMA side, please sit down while we put old Endeavor agents on your client “teams,” fire your ass, steal your clients, and tell you to pack everything back up from your new, smaller office.
Try getting a receptioist to know who’s even still employed at this mess. Good luck. They don’t know who Michelle Bohan is – until after 3 calls…
Don’t worry fellow warriors. There will be plenty of room when the next wave off firings take place by September. That’s right, thats when many WMA contracts are up. Ari Ari Ari
Endeavor became what they despised. SO American with their lack of thinking history won’t apply to them.
Strickler is somewhere, hopefully, somewhere far, far away…as Greenblatt left long before…
I know Bruno is this week, so why borrow a Borat quote? “to achieve great success in making this the greatest agency possible.”I mean the “great success” part.
Talk about a milquetoast sentiment though. Greatest agency possible? Why is it that real businessmen and businesswomen, people who really influence our country and the world, always have a macro view of things – Hollywood truly believes the whole world revolves around Movies based on toys and video games. What happened to all the smart people?!!!! And are they hiring?
I’ve worked in many different parts of the business; production, agency, international distribution in Europe.
Referring to Scribe O’Witz, you need to figure out that we all need each other in this business. All too frequently TALENT only sees their small view of the big picture.
It’s not all just down to you.
I think this is a problem with many in this city.
We are all in this together.
bet the expense accounts are not shrinking like the floor space.
Wait, all (or most) of WMA is cramming into 9150 Wilshire?
Remember Stateroom 54 from the Marx Brothers movie “A Night at The Opera”? Andrew Weitz is going to honk his horn and Ari is going to add, “And two hardboiled eggs!”
Who’s in Strickler’s office? I hope the spirit of the place that came from Tom will infuse the new inhabitant.
It’s such a jaded two-edged sword: be thankful U have jobs at all but pay noone anything and cram them in together but WME is now a Big 4 contender to CAA and yet they still have all those costly offices around the world but hey, they signed Charlize!
Ari, Ari, Ari,,,you still think that you can blow CAA out of the water by charging in and capturing the William Morris Agency a la Genghis Khan with his “merger” of the far East.
Don’t listen to the PR machine at WME. Most of them are the ones telling other people not to bitch and moan on this site about how WME is a joke, etc, etc.. Well go to hell. Yes there are some people who got layed off and are firing off on this site and then there are those of us who just don’t like the way the company is run and how they treat people. Life is not fair. We all know this. The rich get richer, blah blah blah. But this site is a way for people to sound off about what is really going on and how they feel. That’s better than having people who were burned going over to Fogelman or Cooper’s house and bitch slapping them. Although that would be a fun thing to see I think it’s better that everyone reads about these errors in judgement that these fools have committed. So to the PR machine at WME – go screw yourself. We will write what we want. People will continue to write what they want. It takes two minutes. I know people inside the ompany and outside that will continue writing about how John Fogelman and Michael Cooper are horrible people. If they want to keep writing about it then they will!!! Unless you have a way of giving us all permission to bitch slap those guys then shut the hell up.
Ari will get his due…his style of leadership is so old and tired…just wait and watch. Class and respect do not come to mind when thinking of him and his methods. The direction the fractured entertainment business is heading is only going to compound this mess. To have to state in an email that the size of the offices is relevant is a sign of worry. Leadership skills are missing from this email. Little positives about the great opportunity awaiting those of you we kept on board. No…the size of your office, your anxiety, your fears are most of this message…that and the fact that you have to provide your own Kleenix. Better find one of the local DR’s to provide presecription drugs for everybody. This ought to be good. Keep us up to date on this trainwreck.!
It’ll all come out in the wash… This merger has failure written all over it. When you so blatantly screw with people in public view like Ari did with Wiatt and others, people stop trusting you and you lose your ability to conduct business… People root against you and do things behind the scenes to make sure you fail… Think Ovitz, but he was more successful than Ari will ever be.
I just want to say its official. We are now having our pay dropped. I currently make $13.62 an hour, now I’ll make $12 because I’ve been with the company for over a year. The pay scale starts at $11 and goes up a $1 an hour for each year. Ari, Rick and Patrick blame it on the economy. I say BS. I think they have to go to their expensive dinners, $260,000 per seat Laker tickets and finally get very rich now that they have conned Jim Wiatt and company. Ari, this really hurts I can’t pay my bills now and I was struggling before. Sure I want to be an agent but I’m poor I don’t come from a wealthy household. My parents are good people and they work hard but they don’t have money to give me to chase my dreams. Did you stop and think about us? Thanks you so much Niky Fink for telling us a month earlier. I just wish I would have listened and moved out of my place. No one was Endeavor gives a shit about the average person.
It’s been said before and I’ll say it again. If you don’t like your job, your pay, your boss…then quit. I did. Busted my ass for 4 years at a huge agency and quit just before my promotion to full agent. I’ve questioned that decision a few times but will see that it was the best decision I ever made.
PUT UP OR SHUT UP PEOPLE. Too many others want the job you have and won’t whine about having it.
Reality check please!!?? On what planet are you “entitled” to anything? No free rides in the real world guys. If you were told otherwise, consider yourself punk’d! Work hard and get rewarded! Whine and cry and get fired or passed over! It’s that simple. WME is cutting edge….you like plain vanilla…move on! Ari rocks!!
