He’ll do stand up and sit down. Because if you can’t get your friends to appear, then you might as well hang it up. Question is, does anyone still care about Seinfeld anymore? Sure, it was great when his show first went into syndication. But now I haven’t bothered with those reruns of the reruns of the reruns in years.
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

Jerry Seinfeld is an icon. I just saw his stand up and there is no one on the planet funnier, smarter and more RELEVANT. Nikki dear, in a world filled with bad tv, bad people and very little hope.. why would you pick on one of the few legends who has never done anything except entertain in the most uplifting way. Why so snarky ? Why not applaud one of the few comedic geniuses of our time ? Oh maybe you would have prefered Dr. Phil ? That Jack-off.
Pick on someone who deserves it. Not a guy who created and starred in one of the best tv shows ever. I am a fan forever.
Nikke, baby, those are the two shows (Curb and Seinfeld) that still get me resids.
The girl who got the last chocolate babke and the girl Larry called an asshole on Curb.
I can’t believe someone just suggested that Three’s Company was a superior show than Seinfeld. Wow. Moron.
Did someone really post, “I love the post-show über-rich Doesn’t-Give-An-F curmudgeon Jerry a lot more than I liked him as an observational comic.”???
What’s to love?
At least the “old” Jerry didn’t use every TV Talk Show appearance to defend his wife’s lame cook book plagiarism by branding the original author of the recipes a nutcase.
By the way, how is that defamation lawsuit going, Jer?
“F-U” Money is only good when the recipient doesn’t spend the rest of his/her mortal life attempting to “F-over” the little guys.
And the funniest thing you’ll ever see Larry David do was his astonishingly witless appearance with Craig Ferguson several weeks ago… When he proved that HBO’s Larry David is a LOT CLOSER to the TRUE Larry David than he would have us believe. (Basically, Larry went on Craig’s show to promote his Woody Allen flop and Craig refused to kiss his exalted ass– which caused the “HBO Larry” to instantly change guises with the “Regular Larry” that David so often attempts to convince people he is really like.)
I say “F” all THREE of them… Seinfeld, David and Leno!
As great as the show Seinfeld was, Jerry Seinfeld himself was never anything special. It was great because of LARRY DAVID and the writers, as well as the excellent ensemble — particularly Julia Louis Dreyfuss. Seinfeld was the weakest link in the cast, actually.
Seinfeld’s awful stand-up at the beginning and end of the early shows was so bad that I treated that part of the show like a commercial break.
Do the deluded people who think Jerry Seinfled is some kind of genius also have autographed posters of McLean Stevenson and Sally Struthers hanging over their beds?
Larry David is still impressive. Julia Louis Dreyfuss too. Jerry Seinfeld? Can’t see the difference between him and any other hack stand-up from the 80′s. This won just happened to win the lottery.
TheHoleTruth nailed it spot on:
At least the “old” Jerry didn’t use every TV Talk Show appearance to defend his wife’s lame cook book plagiarism by branding the original author of the recipes a nutcase.
When Jerry had his show, he was brilliant. But the smarmy, arrogant douchebag he’s turned into is not funny nor interesting. If he wants to go on tv, go back to what is funny: commenting on your average, walk of life incident that makes everyone laugh.
I hope Leno and NBC go down in flames.
Maybe you don’t get it but even knowing whats coming up still cracks me up. There are very few repeats like Seinfeld that still holds my attention as though it is showing for the first time
Jerry Seinfeld…. honestly, who cares anymore….
Love Seinfeld the show. Don’t give a shit about Seinfeld on a talkshow. Who’s going to make the extra effort to see that? What’s next? Ted Danson?
agree that jerry could mop the floor with letterman…but what is in it for him? frankly that gig doesn’t seem like it would hold much appeal for seinfeld…most likely trapping him in LA, a regular weekday schedule, etc…also what are the odds that his wife ends up marrying five other guys by the end of the first run
Couldn’t agree more with Paul. Seinfeld was the ambitious, middle-of-the-road friend of some talented comedians whom he harnessed as his writers. He never did anything on the show but stand there like a dead weight, looking delighted with himself.
Seinfeld matters to a whole new generation. My young teenage son LOVES the reruns and watches all the time. Smart move for Leno.
Leno is a SCAB.
Too bad. I like Leno and would have watched his first show, but I find defaming Seinfeld and his plagiarizing wife utterly repulsive.
I like Jerry and Jay, should be a good show.
Rocky writes… “I hope Leno and NBC go down in flames.”
About 200 people work on Leno’s show and thousands work at NBC. And you want them all to lose their job?
You, sir, are a jerk.
Frankie Raye,
Jobs Frankie. I want them all to lose their jobs. And that’s smoke you smell. The last place Network is already burning. As to the 200 people who work on Leno, multiply that by 5 and it will equal the number of people now unemployed who previously worked on dramas and other shows between the 9 and 10 PM slot on NBC. I am telling every person who will listen. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES WATCH LENO.
Regards,
The Jerk
People are living in a fantasy world if they think expensive dramas are going to make a comeback, at least on NBC. They are expensive to produce, the broadcast networks are bloated with one hour dramas. Heroes at 4 million an episode, get real. NBC did the right thing, either that or give the hour to the affiliates for news. In case anyone is watching ratings each year they keep going down.
Now either the writers are writing crap, or no one is interested in watching one hour dramas. This is only the beginning. If Leno hits, like newsmagazine shows of 10 years ago, the other nets will fall in line.
FOX was smart in not fooling around with the 10pm slot.
Jonathan, if Seinfeld was just dead weight, how come the show got better with the departure of Larry David? Season 8 lives in legend.
Dolly above says:
“Seinfeld matters to a whole new generation. My young teenage son LOVES the reruns and watches all the time. Smart move for Leno.”
Seinfeld’s RERUNS matter to a whole new generation. Not Seinfeld’s current “humor” – I use that term loosely – or Jay Leno. No one is going to watch the same crap five nights a week, let along a bunch of teenagers that would rather chat online.
Rocky is so right. Leno is going down in flames, as is Conan and NBC. And we can all thank Jeff Zucker and brain surgeon Ben Silverman. Those are the wizards killing jobs in entertainment.
AND NOW IT IS HISTORY TIME!
This is the most exciting show on TV.
Will Leno’s backstabbing, traitorous past finally catch up with him? Or will the innate evil in the business reward yet another soulless creep?
Will Conan withstand the onslaught of the coming talkshow? Or will he go down a good guy wounded in the war of evil men?
Will TV writers become irrelevant as CBS and ABC dump 10 pm programming and put on talkshows and end network TV as we know it? Or will Leno fail and force NBC to come back to the fold?
Will Jeff Zucker lose his job or will the new guy just get fired next spring?
I hope this move fails big time. It’s a cheap way for NBC not to do their job.
In case you haven’t noticed TV writers are irrelevant, no one is watching TV that much anymore, with 250+ channels on satellite, and, cable growing by leaps and bounds, broadcast networks ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, and The CW are becoming less relevant every season.
Guess what, ratings for the new shows and returning shows will be down ,again this season just like every season.
That’s funny cuz when I read the title I thought, “Smart move, Leno.” I mean, who doesn’t love Jerry Seinfeld. Even if you didn’t watch the show regularly, he’s just a funny guy. I actually love catching him on talk shows. Now the rest of Leno’s show? Not sure how that’s gonna go. I wonder how the ratings will be…
