Now, which moron at The Weinstein Company thinks this is an appropriate fake trailer to hawk Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds? People are being fooled by this abomination: a trailer for a Nazi propaganda film that went up on Apple today from “Arien Productions” glorifying a hero of the Third Reich. The film “Nation’s Pride” is advertised as having an exclusive engagement in Paris (at the theater where Basterds has a plot point) and the opening line of the narration is “From Reich Minister Dr Joseph Goebbels…” This isn’t clever marketing, folks. It’s classless.

Chill Nikki. This is IN the movie. It’s just a piece of propaganda used by Nazis in the film to make a point. RELAX.
I think it’s funny.
Thank you, Nikki. It’s one thing to make fake trailers and whatnot making fun of Nazis, but this is going one step too far.
And before anyone says “But it’s in the film!” – it’s all about context.
Yeah, I’m not sure it’s that big of a deal just on its own. Sure it’s classless. And no, I don’t think it’s that funny, either.
But then I thought Inglourious Basterds sucked, and in more ways than I expected it to.
Quentin Tarantino seems to think WWII was real cool. Just like he thinks most things where people get killed are real cool. He honestly, I’m pretty sure, doesn’t know any different or better. That’s about as deep as it goes. That’s about as deep as he goes.
I found it rather humorous, seeing as it was pretty damn fine piece of faux propaganda. and if someone some how didn’t “Get It”, that would be their problem. There isn’t anything classless about it. It is clever, actually, if you don’t have a simplistic knee jerk reaction.
I agree. Chill out, Nikki. It’s just a little digital marketing. “Spring Time for Hitler” was probably a lot more offensive, but because Mel’s a tribesman I guess you’ll forgive him.
I find it also humorous that you link to this “Classless” trailer.
it’s supposed to be ironic, like harry prince of wales in a nazi costume.
it’s all good though. have a bunch of jews scalp nazis. add brad pitt. everything kosher now.
read the script. blows. get ready for a misfire. only the ‘berg can do a good WWII movie since he’s smart enough to avoid sarcasm, irony, and parody out of respect for the era.
Yeah, nobody could tell it was a fake trailer, what with the German-speaking actors and the German narration.
Calm down. It’s not classless — it just doesn’t go far enough, in my opinion, to signal that it’s a joke. It should be a Grindhouse-level fake trailer, or have the tone of Starship Troopers or something. I think the intent will zip right past most audiences.
Did you really expect class from Weinstein?
I’m in.
Not a big deal
Eh. The entire movie looks ridiculous especially Brad and his accent. Hopefully the film’s better than it looks.
Just watched it. Wow, I was expecting something much worse after reading what you wrote. I think you need to relax …
It’s got you talking… so it worked! Wait, no…
Wow! Get the stick out Nikki
The Weinsteins assume the audience for their R-rated flick to be smarter than a 5th grader.
As DHD points out this may not be the case. “Crowned in Gloury” didn’t tip them off. Oh boy. “From Reichsminister Goebbels” didn’t do it, either? Man, that’s scary!
We could get our panties in a bunch over the state of education and hang our heads in shame. But no, let’s point the fingers at those who won’t dumb down the fun to reality-TV levels. Spoofing “brought to you by the Führer” (opening credit of Leni Riefenstahl’s Triumph of the Will) may be asking a bit much, though.
Hope the controversy will do for Inglourious Basterds what it didn’t do for Brüno or Observe & Report or…. Now if only the film would live up to it…
I think it’s funny too.
I think that’s a fantastic piece of marketing. If you hear Goebbels and you don’t think it what’s up there’s clearly something wrong.
I’ve already sent this link out to like 20 people. Plus it’s been mentioned on Deadline Hollywood – a free plug from one of the industries top blogs. Now that’s what I call viral marketing.
PS. the Advertise on Deadline Hollywood link in the top left corner is currently broken.
Considering this is for a Jewish exploitation film where the payoff is watching Nazis get their heads bashed in, I think it’s perfect.
I think Eli Roth directed that video and it’s in the actual movie. It wasn’t intentionally created for marketing.
Oh yeah, great marketing! I’m sure the Nazi propaganda won’t bother all the people who lost family in WWII or who were Holocaust survivors. After all, the Nazis only made lampshades or soap out of the people they didn’t like, I guess that isn’t a problem for most of the commenters here.
Calm down, Nikki. The “trailer” is pretty tame. Tarantino didn’t even direct it. Eli Roth did. Roth has a great sense of humor and I don’t think it’s going to bring Nazi fascism back to Germany.
the movie looks lame.
