Now, which moron at The Weinstein Company thinks this is an appropriate fake trailer to hawk Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds? People are being fooled by this abomination: a trailer for a Nazi propaganda film that went up on Apple today from “Arien Productions” glorifying a hero of the Third Reich. The film “Nation’s Pride” is advertised as having an exclusive engagement in Paris (at the theater where Basterds has a plot point) and the opening line of the narration is “From Reich Minister Dr Joseph Goebbels…” This isn’t clever marketing, folks. It’s classless.

I think it would shock you how much influence Nazi propaganda has on Hollywood movies today (seriously, the stuff is a mainstay in film schools). It does not reflect on the legacy of the Holocaust to recognize the craft involved, which I think this trailer does pretty wittily.
Yeah, I guess this “abomination” did what it’s supposed to. We’re talking about it. That said… Come on, is it that big of a deal? It’s not great, but it’s silly and clearly fake.
i think it was a decent idea, poorly executed. should have committed to the bid 100%, done it in the style of the 40′s with a german accent at least.
It this movie is a hit, expect a A-Teamesque remake of Hogan’s Heroes next…
Right now, the Weinsteins are throwing everything they can up to see what sticks on the wall to make this movie a surefire hit.
Sad to see what was once a powerhouse now having to rely on the same director who put them in power. Just for this industry, I hope they don’t go under (even if Harvey is so hated now). We need them all.

the weinsteins are german-jewish anyway so effectively they are endorsing a nazi fake propaganda film as jewish men. surely they would have been the first to veto something done in bad taste.
the trailer is in the film, it is done as an obvious parody, it does not mention the nazis, it does not glorify the nazi viewpoints and the fact that he is fighting the americans pales into insignificance if you see other german made ww2 films (feature length) where they fight the americans.

I Agree with Michael… This just doesn’t work, mainly because it’s done with such modern style. A 1940′s Nazi Propaganda film would not have 3D title treatment… C’mon… if you’re going to do something like this make it fit with the time at least.
Read the script. This is a trailer for the film-within-the-film. The whole 3rd act takes place around the propaganda film for which this is the trailer.
Is the execution of this trailer’s release bad? Maybe. But outrage over it? -Completely unfounded.

Kinda clever idea, but it doesn’t work because it should have been in German (as is a lot BASTERDS). The “joke” doesn’t really come across as well as the great trailers in GRINDHOUSE. Overall, nein.
Regardless of the marketing – which doesn’t do the movie justice at all – this film is bloody brilliant. I just saw this film last night – note: I have no affiliation with the film whatsoever – and I just have to say wow. It’s Dr.Strangelove-Kubrick-brilliant. Certainly the best Tarantino movie since Reservoir Dogs. Watch out for Christoph Waltz – this man is going to win an Oscar. As for the trailer, the propaganda film it refers to is fundamentally part of the movie – not just some random idea cooked up by marketing – once you see the film, it makes perfect sense. FYI “Nations Pride” the-film-within-the-film was directed by Eli Roth.

There’s so much wrong with IB from start to finish (that the concept itself promotes the argument that anything is acceptable in war as long as the other guy a) does it first (or you can convince people that they did) and b) really, really deserves it – arugments Goebbels helped pioneer, btw) why focus on the marketing?

The Nazis were defeated 70 years ago — thank God — and yet these films keep coming out like pistons pumping inside an engine. I love how every time someone questions the motives behind such films, people like Cathy start writing like Jews still need to be paranoid. More like they WANT to be paranoid and they have many ways to make money from that paranoia.
When will we be seeing Israeli propaganda and films about the heroic struggle of Palestinians against the super-race represented by their AshkeNAZI overlords?
