EXCLUSIVE: Peter Chernin's new company has closed a deal to bring on board former Universal Media Studios exec Lauren Stein to be its senior VP of drama for the TV side. Stein is best known for shepherding Lipstick Jungle and Life at NBC, and was responsible for this fall's new series Mercy before she was laid off last December.

I worked with Lauren for many years and I can say this is a great hire for Mr. Chernin.

Nikki, what is your source now saying about those GI Joe test screenings? Even among critics it didn’t score THAT bad. Did that editor they brought in work a miracle by getting it to what it became?
Considering that NBC-Universal is announcing remakes of TV shows that just ended a few months ago, getting laid off may just turn out to be the best thing to happen to her career.
