EXCLUSIVE: I’m told that ICM’s actor Christoph Waltz who won Best Actor at the Cannes Film Festival for playing a Nazi in Inglourious Basterds (and is a shoo-in for an Oscar nomination) has now been cast as villain Chudnofsky in Sony’s The Green Hornet opposite Seth Rogen and Cameron Diaz. Since Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds came out — and crossed the $100M mark this weekend – Waltz has been offered a lot of big movies by a lot of big directors. And he’s getting big bucks now. How great he’s found success at age 52. Big breaks like this keep actors in Hollywood still hopeful…

I’m so happy for him! A little class to that film? Thank God for Christoph.
Haven’t seen Inglourious Basterds yet, but heard he was great. Nice story for a Monday.
That must be one hell of a script because I keep thinking about Seth Rogen in this movie and not one good thought comes to mind. Ugh… he should have picked something else.
what the HELL are you talking about? that film doesn’t get any Oscar nods- NONE- do you hear me?
That’s one thing about Tarantino’s films. They always bring out talent that has been lost or not recognized. Good for Waltz.
Good for him. I’m not sure exactly how successful this Green Hornet will be though. When one thinks of film hero, Seth Rogen usually doesn’t come to mind. And Cameron Diaz? I always wonder why she keeps getting hired as she offers nothing in the projects she is in.
But good for Waltz. And thank god we have Tarantino bringing us new or forgotten talent to the forefront. Too bad more Hollywood directors aren’t more like him. If they were, then we wouldn’t have to endure with the same boring people in films.
However, if producers want to hire a true villain, then get Kanye West. I doubt if anybody can play the villain like he can.
waltz is amazing. but seth rogan is the jimmy kimmel of the big screen. unappealing on just about every level and perpetually shoved down our throats, rather inexplicably.
we need some fresh, new talent up in this mofo.
The guys hits some high notes in IB, he goes from passive methodical to passive maniacal, a jewel of a performance by todays standards. Give him an supporting actor oscar, he deserves it,
Good luck to him. Hollywood is desperate for someone who can bring some depth and flair to villain parts, and if he plays his cards right, he could work steady well into old age.
Yes, it’s never too late for a big break to find you. Just be extremely talented, well connected, and be able to speak four languages fluently.
WAIT FOR THE CREAM.
He made the most of the opportunity! What a sensational performance. Can’t wait to see him in something else.
I hope this project (which I’m sure is a sequel to Land Of The Lost being made on the quiet) doesn’t slow down Waltz’s career when it comes out and gets absolutely murdered at the box office by Tron Legacy.
This film has another (tail between it’s legs) schedule move to March 2011 written all over it.
Unless Sony are managing to make this for a much lower (and more sensible) budget (which, considering it’s Sony, I very much doubt) I honestly don’t see the appeal of this project. Yes it’s very early to judge it, but at the same time, on paper, this is either going to an absolute master piece or it’s going to be this generation’s Ishtar.
I know which of the two I’m leaning towards.
PS – Christoph is 52?! Man alive he doesn’t look it. Clearly someone should be bottling that German air and shipping it over to LA. They’d make a fortune.
So long as I don’t see Christoph Waltz in talks to star in any upcoming Todd Phillips movies, I’m happy.
It’s shocking news that some actor playing a Nazi is a “shoo-in for an Oscar nomination”. Way to branch out, Oscars.
Get over it. It’s not the role. It’s the acting. No one cared when Warren Beatty played a Communist in Reds and that won all kinds of awards.
Don’t say anything if you have something nice to say; it’s encouraging to see followers of this site sticking to their values.
Love it!
Man, they just can’t seem to get this thing cast, can they?
Excellent, most excellent. He was the reason I saw IG 3x.
Someone please illuminate me. Why would anyone in their right mind fund this box office abortion in the making starring Mr. My Fifteen Minutes Was Up Ages Ago and I’m Hanging On By My Fingernails? What studio head is going to lose their job over this financial fiasco?
Seth, for the sake of our Industry, for the sake of our country and the free world, get off the freaking stage!
Waltz is a great actor, lots of theater, lots of TV and very little cinema. Mostly in Germany, so not on the Hollywood radar, as you check out only the british actors – what is not a bad idea. German actors are only allowed in nazi movies and Waltz is the lucky one who got a super scripted role by Tarantino. And Tarantino is the lucky one choosing Waltz to fill that role so awesomely. Waltz balanced the movie. Otherwise could have been a real shitty flick.
I am sure he will give a decent villain, as that is what germans do best in Hollywood. Playing nazis or eastern europe bad guys.
I see your point about type casting, but that happens to lots of actors that still end up hugely successful and popular. What does Gary Oldman always play? A crazy person, right? Or Ralph Fiennes? Samething. Besides, the villains are the ones that get all the recognition and fans in most movies. So Waltz will do just fine.
That’s a bingo!
He’s a terrific actor. I hope he has a successful run post-Tarantino, he’s certainly talented. Perhaps he should have held out for one of Christopher Nolan’s Batman villians in The Return of The Dark Knight.
We will be recording a new guitar parts for our students a quality guitar is our gift.
You gotta stick it to this guy … without his acting the whole movie would’ve been just above average
awesome!!
