Too funny!
The whole thing was a publicity stunt.
Yes, between crop circled hair boy and rat face girl.
Who gives a shit?
A jackass or two or four. Does Wirtschafter also rep politicians?
That’s actually pretty funny. I’d suspect most politicians have agents.
Ive been trying to convince people that this whole thing was a pubicity stunt…and this info seals the deal. It was meant to get people to tune into Lenos new show so see if Kanye would appoligise.
Why is this surprising?? Wirschafter reps premier talent for the agency; it’s only reasonable to assume he’d be on the team of two of the firm’s biggest music clients.
Taylor had already been booked on The View, Kanye had already been booked on Leno. Duh.
They must think we’re all idiots.
All I know is – he is a genius. Whoever does Taylor Swift’s PR is brilliant and ruthless. Joe Jonas is still nursing wounds.
But Kanye’s still a jackass, right?
Yes he is. For doing that anyway. No one deserves to get their mic/public special moment like that taken away from them!
Kanye West knows exactly what he was doing. He posed on the red carpet holding Cognac, so he could blame the alcohol if he had to. I don’t know if the reaction was what he was expecting but the whole thing had to be pre-planned.
He was probably watching Obama the week before get interrupted and he thought that if he did that to someone then he’d get as much publicity.
Then the whole Leno saying sorry on the debut show.
Then Obama calling Kanye a jackass… when really he wanted to call the Congressman a jackass but calling Kanye was close enough since they both did the same type of interruption.
I’ll go with the publicity stunt theory on this one. Jay doesn’t normally ask questions like, what would your mother say about this?
Remember, this is the same network that on an awards show earlier this year had Bruno bump his junk into Eminem’s chin as if the rapper was being pranked, but Slim Shady was in on the gag the whole time.
BTW, my eight-year-old stepdaughter is the only reason I know who Taylor Swift is.
Not that it matters at all, but I promise you that Wirtschafter had nothing to do with this. Obviously, a good agent should be a strong advocate for their clients, but he loves Taylor Swift to a degree that approaches (and probably blows right by) unhealthy. He would never allow her to be publicly slighted like that. When I saw it happen, I was half waiting for a low slung hurricane of weathered skin, brittle hair and out of style children’s clothes to tackle Kanye off the stage.
I just want to finish what I didn’t, and say – Taylor Swift’s songs are the epitome of mediocrity and they all sound the same. And if she didn’t look like the prom queen, or have publicity stunts like this, the only CD she would sell is to her Mom.
Haha. Truer words.
Not so much…there are a lot of younger adolescent and teenage girls that love her music and don’t care if it does have repitition. So what? I have listened to her quite a few times myself and she is good. She’s young and she has a lot of guts to be able to sing out in front of people like that with little professional experience from when she first started! And she is definetely BRAVE to keep going on after Kanye took her spot light and completely humiliated her! That was sooo wrong!
I can’t believe any of you would actually think that was setup. Kanye sees something, and then he acts on it before thinking. The only thing on his mind was, “How in the WORLD can this video I’ve never heard of be beating Beyonce’s amazing video.” Then he thought it must be a setup to promote Taylor, and jumped up there.
He wasn’t even thinking of the possibility that Beyonce was getting Video of the Year, so of course they’re not going to give her two at this point in her career. So they gave it to Taylor who probably came in second.
Taylor was already booked on the View because they already knew she was going to win the award, not because of Kanye. I watched his interview with Leno and believed him when he said he didn’t know anything was wrong until he handed her back the mic and she didn’t say anything.
He’s just in his own little world sometimes and this was a slap in the face for him. Everything’s not a hoax people. Life happens.
If she knew she was going to win her award, Beyonce knew she was going to win hers…Jay-Z, Beyonce’s husband was making a talk show appearance with Kanye the next day…it’s not hard to connect the dots.
The VMAs were going to be deadly boring otherwise and MTV wouldn’t just let that happen. If there were other stunts throughout the night, I’d say Kanye’s moment was spontaneous…but that was IT for the event.
And on MTV/Viacom, yes, everything is a hoax, or at least an artful simulation. They sure were when I worked events for Nickelodeon.
I agree that this was not a hoax. Nobody in Hollywood is that creative. Kanye is, what the president said, a jackass.
Who knows if this was a stunt or not. What is evident about Taylor Swift’s winning the Best Female Video award is, it was all about politics and not talent.MTV is known for giving people awards just so they can show up for VMAs, and that’s could be the reason for Swift winning Best Female Video.I mean, how could Taylor Swift get the Best Female Video award, and Beyonce gets Video Of The Year? Doesn’t Video Of The Year mean that you had the best video male or female? Beyonce a female, so how could she have the overall best video, but not win Best Female Video?
WME reps everyone in music. Yawn.
50 bucks says that comment was from kanye’s agent
The entire episode was a complete FAKE from start to finish.
We ran the facial analysis software on their micro-expressions… and the AUs were demonstrating complete dishonesty … and pre-arranged fraud from every one of the actors involved. (You can see the micro-expressions for yourself by freeze-framing the videos.)
But … it was still a good stunt, and they made it work for them. So it’s OK. All’s well that ends well.
Hahah. Someone watches a little too much LIE TO ME.
Facial analysis depends on how left or right brained you are. Some people are natural lie detectors. The moment was real.
You’re an IDIOT, Michael.
Kayne should also apologize to his idol Beyonce for embarrasing her too. He displayed stupid improper stage ettiquette. Miss Piggy should be on is case too.
“Life happens”? Seriously? I would hardly call this sort of thing, or for that matter anything related to Kanye West or anyone else in that sort of bubble “life”.
I doubt it’s a publicity stunt, why would Kanye West want to be so hated? It makes no sense, someone with his ego wants love not hate…
explain to me what good it is for an agent if one artist says he needs to “take time off” and some radio stations pull his music while the other goes on being as adorable as ever? the damage kanye did to himself far outweighs whatever attention taylor swift has garnered. granted, both will be tranistory, but give me a break that this was planned.
kanye west has a past and he certainly lived up to it. and anyone who cries conspiracy theory had better learn how to spell “apologize” if they want the slightest bit of credibility…
Only you would even know this! That’s why I read your blog.
That is FUCKING BS!!!!!! do you seriously think someone would make Taylor Swift go through that?!?!? Get a life you guys and stop to consider the fact that kanye West is an Asshole with no feelings
If its a hoax whomever publicist to kanye just made more people hate him
Not exactly genius
Kanye was trying to show people how they should act when he doesn’t win.
Well what I don’t get is how Taylor Swift was ready to go backstage with a microphone when Beyonce introduced her…. when did they plan that? I guess winners already know they are going to win, so I guess that sort of makes sense. But reminds me of Oscars when they brought back on the winners of best song so they could give the speech they didn’t get to give because they turned off her mic.
It could be real, could not be.
The Oscar moment with Glen and Marketa happened right after a commercial break. They won the award, show cut to commercial, and when the show came back from commercial Jon Stewart brought them out. They were already back stage doing press, so I have a hard time believing that was pre-arranged.
I happen to know as fact it was a publicity stunt. It’s a signature trademark of the MTV Awards each year. Think back people (hello… wardrobe malfunction, which was produced byt MTV). Each year , they need a moment otherwise nobody would talk about this stupid and meaningless show.
And you people think all the “conspiracy nuts” are right-wingers. More proof that people think everyone is like them. In this case, cynical and pathetic.
Kanye West is an ego-maniac. I find it hilarious that another ego-maniac called him a “jackass.”
This of course assumes it really happened. Maybe the lap-dog-left-wing-media decided with the left-wing-ego-maniacs in the White House to ‘allow this to slip’ so their ego-maniac boss would look human. It is how they behave.
I find it hard to beleif that the Obamassiah would let that out without having planned it. It’s just not his style. The best part, is, few are looking at him. The media takes the heat (willingly), and Obamassiah appears to be human while appearing to have made an offhand comment, which never happens with him.
I’m very mixed on this. Yes the Kanye-Taylor incident could have been staged, but I’m not completely sold. I don’t think Kanye’s people would have wanted the vicious backlash that he has gotten from this; they would be very stupid if they didn’t anticipate what would happen when you rip on Middle America’s sweetheart. Taylor Swift, after all, is one of the best selling artists of 2008 and mostly likely for 2009 as well; going after her would pretty much be suicide.
I do think that MTV planned for the opening Jackson tribute, Twilight cast and trailer, Lady GaGa performance, and the Lil Mama interruption to be their attention getters. But when the Kanye thing happened, they excitedly ran with the drama and hyped it up as much as they could.
It’s not a publicity stunt. Nobody in Hollywood is that creative.
It is what it is – a jackass who wants the world to revolve around him.
But that won’t satisfy you conspiracy theory nut cases so I’ll leave you to your delusional world. Be sure to write when you get work.
you must admit that the stunt worked for West — with his new CD coming out he is on everyones mind (possitive or negative) West is one smart a**hole
someone thought it would generate publicity like porn director Michael Lucas did within the porn industry when he did basically the same thing back in March at the Castro Theatre in San Francisco. I realize that it’s hard to believe that there are gay men who watch and pay attention to and are influenced by what happens in the gay porn industry but it is true. It’s true.
If this was a publicity stunt I am appalled! Though I could understand it since MTV’s ratings have been going DOWNHILL for sometime now. But the thought that they would subject the public to this DEBACLE for RATINGS is APPALLING! I hope and pray this is not a fact. If I find out that, Kanye and his HOE of the MONTH, Taylor and her management (she is a young CHILD {yeah, 19 is STILL a YOUNG CHILD}orchestrated this, I will further have PROOF why I never watch awards shows! Is it any different than the STAGED SO-CALLED REALITY shows that MANY are watching as I speak!!!
This is the best kind of publicity, the kind that generates discussion, debate, discourse days after. Fake or not, it’s a win-win for VMAs, Taylor Swift and… yes, even Kayne — though he might not get invited to meet the Queen anytime soon.
I can’t believe so many people could believe that this was a conspiracy. Are you all truthers and birthers also?
Not fake, Kanye is a douche and has done this at least twice before. He’s a preening, insufferable jackass. First time Obama and I agree on something.
I knew it was a publicity stunt from the start – anyone notice it happened right at the start of the show? And ratings suddenly shot up for a show that had been bleeding ratings for years.
And the show itself was gowdawful – I had it on in the background at my house and when the most exciting thing all night is a middling tune by Green Day – well, need I say more.
It just shows it isn’t just digital downloading that’s killing the mainstream music industry.
“Beyonce’s amazing video”? Has anyone seen that thing? She ought to be embarrassed, it was complete garbage.
I think she had the biggest selling CD of the year, I doubt her mom bought more than a few copies.
It makes no sense, someone with his ego wants love not hate…
Hate keeps people talking. Love only gets a brief mention.
There’s no way this was a set up. Kanye is a douche, that’s the real deal.
Because … THERE’S STILL … and even more so now than ever before … no such thing as Bad Press – especially when everybody loves you for apologizing sooooooooooo profusely. (Big K hasn’t had this much air time since the last time he really did get biggy foot-in-mouth.) Exposure with the mass-audience (and keeping your presence in their faces) is the absolute Holy Grail in Hollywood – (no matter what it costs you in the long run).
Publicity stunt is hardly the question. What would have happened if the winner had been black, and a white artist stole the mic on national television proclaiming another white artist’s video to be the greatest? Hmmmmmm
I assure you it was not a publicity stunt. Seeing Taylor backstage after the slight, crying and needing her makeup redone, and calming her down prior to her next performance wouldn’t have been part of this. It would have been brilliant if it was a stunt but it wasn’t.
Maybe it was a work or not, I don’t care more. The ones it benefited is Kanye West and Taylor Swift.
Leno– NBC (Universal)
Kanye– Universal Music
Leno needed a “Hugh Grant” moment to launch his shitty show. Kanye is a jackass for playing the bad guy in this bullshit.
Reeks of Hollywood manipulation.
BTW can we please get the President to stop commenting on mudane shit like the VMA’s and some asshole professor who talks back to armed law enforcement? You’re the President not Miss America.
go away kanye. you need a time-out
This couldn’t possibly have been a publicity stunt. Why would Kanye and his reps want him to lose countless fans? And do you really think singers Kanye/Taylor/Beyonce can act that well? Sorry to all the conspiracy theorists out there, but you’re clearly mistaken.
The facts are these:
1. Kanye West has exhibited asshole behavior many times has said on the record that he “loves to be the center of controversy.”
2. Taylor Swift is a “Hanna Montana” wannabe and needs a boost to her career so they give a country artist a VMA.
3. Kayne and Swift have the same reps.
4. Beyonce is getting backlash for being over-exposed.
5. Jay Leno needs a boost for this crappy show.
6. Leno and West are owned by the same company NBC/UNI Music
7. Swift is booked on The View the next day (win or lose?) and West is booked on the first night of Leno’s shitfest with Jay-Z, Beyonce’s husband.
So Kayne did this and it helped everyone’s career with all these behind-the-scene connections and it just a big coincidence?
Turn on your brain.
How ironic that WME is also simultaneously selling sponsorships to both Taylor and Kayne’s 2010 Concert Tours as well?? It was completely a publicity stunt.
You guys are all morons to think that this was a publicity stunt. Cara Lewis- Kanye’s agent, isn’t THAT smart. Her reign of repping just about EVERY SINGLE URBAN client is about to be over- because there are several assistants at WME and CAA plotting the over take. She’s old- and about to be slowly replaced…
I bet Kanye didn’t even know Taylor was on the same roster. He’s a dumb ass. WME doesn’t handle PR geniuses- they only handle touring.
So how about a nice glass of stfu!
The production co. and or network does not have to allow an artist to appear even if they are nominated.
If they wanted to they could prevent him from going to show next year.
Will they HELL NO! they want this publicity, it’s cheap and taudry.
Pull this shit at the Oscars and see if you are EVER allowed back.
Staged or not, what does this say about Obama post-racial America?
What major agent or manager would advise their client to play into a conspiracy?
Some folks need to go back to the Drudge Report.
Kanye is an ego maniac who thought he was being “cutting edge” and came off like a prick.
No one who reps major talent would advise their client to take/or give such a hit publicly.
Forget the BS. No conspiracy, just a dummy who thinks everyone cares what he thinks.
