This is a big sign because Kate Beckinsale works steadily and has that Underworld franchise under her (tiny) belt. Tracy Brennan at CAA used to rep her. Now it's Elyse Scherz and Patrick Whitesell at WME. I love the smell of agency vs agency napalm in the morning.

She’s really a good actress. Ever see Cold Comfort Farm? Plus, she does work constantly. Her husband directs those Underworld movies and she makes serious cashish.
She’s getting older and wants some bigger roles and paydays. Don’t know if this move will help her achieve those goals.
She was good in The Last Days of Disco…but what happened since then? She needs the right project again, she’s talented.

Not a big signing, more like a middling signing, unless the buzz for Whiteout is big. If it does well, then KB is back on the success bandwagon. Either way, she still has some longevity in her. It’s a good signing.

Normally I would advise someone to stay with CAA, but she might be able to stand out at WME as a big fish. CAA has SO many talented ladies these days….

It really doesn’t matter where Kate or anyone else jumps to. All they’re doing is jumping from sinking ship to sinking ship. The mega agencies are in the death throes…The Golden Goose has laid its last egg.

Smart mgrs like Lourd and Lovett will find new ways to exploit talent and make money… Bad mgrs like Ari and Rick can only see the past, with the most obvious example being their decision to merge with a big, dumb, bleeding legacy company like William Morris.
Kate is one of the two true female action stars (Milla Jojovich is the other). The problem is she’s also a great dramatic actress as well and the geniuses at CAA just wanted her to keep making Underworld movies until she dropped and ended up on Lifetime Originals.
WME needs to formulate a plan for her like they do the male action stars. One slam-bang action film followed by an award worthy drama.
But I think the above poster is right. WME is shit and I think they will screw this up.
Lets all call it for what it is. Tracy Brennan is simply not a good agent. She covers her clients on all projects, by papering them to death. She has little focus and her taste is not good. Look at her entire client list. they are basically one hit wonders with very little long term strategic planning. Her move from ICM to CAA allowed her to hide behind the corporate veil of CAA, but at the end of the day, he inability to make any long term wise choices is the ultimate death of all of her clients.
After sitting in the can for 3 years, Whiteout is finally staggering to the screen. I think Kate should just where her Underworld garb and roam around Hollywood Blvd. She may get cast in an indie Soderbergh film is she does that. It’s called HAS-BEEN.

Completely agree with this. She is a fine actress,and needs some good scripts come her way. She can deliver.
