MTV has the exclusive from Sony Pictures Entertainment and Sony Music Entertainment. It'll be the first official look at the new film opening worldwide for a 2-week limited run beginning October 28th. (Tickets for the limited two-week engagement of the film go on sale beginning September 27th.) Sony will launch the Michael Jackson concert rehearsal footage movie website thisisit-movie.com simultaneously with the trailer debut. In addition, the full trailer will also be available on mtv.com immediately following the VMAs. In theaters, the trailer will start screening on September 18th with the Sony Pictures Animation release of Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs. Meanwhile, VMA Viewers will also see an expanded preview of The Twilight Saga: New Moon trailer from Summit Entertainment.
they giving out shovels with the MTV logo on them?
A two week engagement. Yeah, sure. I’m totally buying that. Four weeks, minimum “Run extended due to incredible demand” or something to that effect.
Pity that no one cares — the whole Kanye West/Taylor Swift debacle is all people are talking about. An omen for the film?
i was ready to hate this … but now i’ve got to see it. it looks amazing – it will change his legacy. this is gonna be huge.
How much money do we think this is going to make? To put it in recent concert film terminology (and shoot me in the kneecap for doing this)…is this going to be a Hannah Montana-sized phenomenon…or a Jonas Brothers fizzle?
I’m leaning towards Hannah Montana, except much much bigger.
The movie may be a much more revealing and interesting peek into his world than anything he would have permitted if he were alive. From all accounts he was a control freak who didn’t want the public to look behind the curtains lest it diminish his tirelessly cultivated his “King of Pop” image. I don’t think this movie would have ever been released in this form had he been there to supervise it, instead it would be an endless montage of screaming girls and fainting fans. Amazing talent but a tragic personal life. His childhood left him with a whole that no amount of fame could fill.
Is that it?
Too bad he died. This looked to be an exceptional concert.
The trailer for “This Is It” is screening in front of “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs”? Oh good. Parents and children can enjoy it together.
“Mommy, you told me he was dead.”
Oh no – I am SO watching this and I don’t see but five movies a year. 30 years of sustained momentum doesn’t stop when someone says ‘who cares?’. It flies past those witches of worry. This is going to be great my men and ladies.
who wants to take the sucker bet that the 2 week limited engagement will suddenly be extended another week and then another and then another…….until the video comes out right before Christmas?
(just like the way that audiences were played in regards to the Hannah Montana film)
This IS “it”.
“It” being a desperate attempt to make money on the death of a human being.
Sony and AIG would send the corpse on tour with the film if they could.
To my surprise, my 13-year-old rocker son & his friends dig the heck out of Michael…Smooth Criminal, Billie Jean, Don’t Stop, etc…were absolutely AMAZED by the moon walk, which they had never really seen till he died. I agree with above poster, seemed ghoulish till I saw the trailer…now I think I would be inclined to see it, too.
The trailer’s great; got me excited to see the film. We all want one last moment of MJ and this will give us that. Too bad he rarely toured in the U.S. We didn’t get many chances to see him over his lengthy career.
Wow.
Considering how off the chain this footage looks, it’s all the more sad the concert (& MJ’s future potential) wasn’t realized.
But I do plan to see this film.
Wow.
“For a limited engagement only!”
“HELD OVER…eighth record-breaking week!”
*Remember when movies in the 70s (both cheap indie exploitation flicks and major studio releases) used to run for MONTHS AND MONTHS AND MONTHS at local theaters ala platform/slow-expansion/grass-roots release plan? Of course, that all changed post-JAWS in the summer of ‘75 – the birth of the summer tentpole, TV ad buys, wide release pattern, cross-promotional marketing product tie-ins, et al.
Sigh
(waxing nostalgic)
Go Michael
“It’s all about love”. Yeah, when I’m was on pain medication after surgery, everything was hearts and flowers for me too. And I slurred my unintelligible words too. I loved everyone around me too.
As soon as the meds wore off though, I was in pain again! And I was angry! But I didn’t become addicted. Because I had to eventually get back to WORK to earn MONEY to support myself!!
Whoever sees this is going to see strategic editing out of anything remoteful injurious to MJ’s rep, but you can’t deny his inarticlulate, drug-addled mumbling and no-longer-sharp moves.
looks like an anorexic ghoul who had the life sucked out of him by decades of abuse and exploitation, yeah should be the feel good hit of the year, maybe they can have the coroner come on and give a full report on the drugs found in his system for all the kiddies watching
I wondered if the whole desire to see Neverland turned into a type of Graceland fizzled because of the general public’s discomfort with Jackson’s freakish life. (I’ve heard only Jermaine liked that idea and the rest of the family hated it. Of course, if old man Joe thought there as a dime to made….)
Let’s take the tykes to Neverland…where Michael Jackson kept pics of little boys in their underwear in his closet, along with little boy statues everywhere…fun for the whole family!
That’s what I wonder about this “film,” THIS IS IT. How can anyone go without having to consider the outlandish and sordid weirdness of Jackson’s life? Will that hurt the b.o.?
Wouldn’t surprise me if it is a pretty BIG Deal.. I bet the DVD, when released, will be even BIGGER! A Great Talent with a Sad Ending…
Sad thing he died. I was really waiting and excited for his comeback concert.
