PLAYBOY: You talk a lot about corporate greed, but do you ever feel a conflict working for giant corporations as an actor? Your other big new movie, 2012, is a gargantuan Sony product.
WOODY HARRELSON: Yeah, there’s definitely a conflict, though I don’t look at Sony as a terrible corporation the way, for example, Fox is. Fox is bad news. I do not like Rupert Murdoch. He’s like Goebbels, Hitler’s propaganda guy. Murdoch is waving the flag not because he gives a shit about it but because he just wants to make money. It seems to be tried and true for him, though now I guess his empire’s taken a bit of a hit.

Harrelson’s a hypocrite. Sony is just as bad as all the others, only that’s who is providing his paycheck this time around. Sorta reminds me of Michael Moore blasting capitalism after he’s made millions from it.

He didn’t compare Murdoch to Hitler. He compared him to Hilter’s #1 propagandist. Which is, truthfully, a much more apt comparison. Neither one has an army, but they do have tons of media coverage and the ability to throw huge amounts of misinformation into the airwaves to convince people of things that aren’t true. The simple answer is, people are dumb. They do not know how to describe events or people beyond simple terms. Words such as gay and rape are used all the time to convey a person’s thought. I think Harrelson caught a piece of a show on the History Channel, and figures he’s an expert.
Yet even a broken clock is right twice a day. Murdoch is in it for the money, and the secret of his success is how he makes that money. Rupert’s specialty is building media outlets that fill a gap left by the other media outlets.
When he started out in Australia a lot of the major newspapers leaned to that country’s equivalent of the Tories. His newspapers leaned toward the Labor Party, because that was an unexploited market. Fox News exists and has such high ratings because there is obviously a gap it is filling in the rest of the media.
I think when people criticize Murdoch, they choose to be blind to the fact that EVERYONE is in business to make money — he’s just much better at it than most, so they think he must be the bad guy. The real bad guy is the guy sitting next to you at the office, or standing in front of you at the store — he’s the one “buying” the products Murdoch (and every other billionaire) sells, and therefore keeping those businesses booming. So at least vent your anger at the real culprit. Murdoch is merely cashing in on what sells — so in America, who can really blame him?

Hitler comparisons are by rule of thumb the easiest way to describe anything you don’t like. Look at any blog or internet conversation between any two 14-40 year old infant and eventually someone, somewhere always winds up being Hitler.

Because in the absence of any knowledge of history, that’s the easiest way to describe a power hungry madman. It’s a very easy reference because you don’t have to know anything about Hitler to use it. Everybody knows he was not a sweet guy, right?
Though it’s usage annoys me too, I can’t blame them. It’s still effective mass communication, as the masses would be incapable of processing “He’s like Sulla” or even “He’s like Hirohito”. At least Woody drops Goebbels name, which shows that he at least watched a PBS show about Nazis once.

To hear Megan Fox say anything bad about anybody is laughable. Worked with her on the set of both Transformer movies, and the crew loathed working with her. She’s the most unappreciative, disprespectful, unflattering girl to step on a set in a long time. While everyone was killing themselves working on this movies, she would show up with her bored looking face that told eveyone, she didn’t want to be there… She’s low class, uncomfortable in her own skin, and her energy is a dark cloud that wipes the beauty right off her face, once you get to really know her. Hey, how many actors would work on a movie for six months and after the last shot get in their car and leave, without saying goodbye or nothin to anybody.

Megan Fox has little to gain from appearing in Transformers 3. Transformers 2 was universally reviled by audiences and the next one (which even Bay doesn’t want to make) will suffer for that. I didn’t see anyone calling Bob Orci ungrateful when he went onto the Ain’t It Cool News message boards to personally point the blame for the minstrel robots at Bay and away from himself, Kurtzman, and Kruger. Star Trek was what K+O needed to permanently extract themselves from Bay’s company. A decent opening for Jennifer’s Body would be all the evidence required to prove Fox has an audience who’ll show up to stare at her whether there are giant robots or not. A project like comic adaptation “Fathom” would be perfect after that. It’s unabashed sexploitation in the guise of a superheroine/fantasy story. She may actually be able to pull off a career as a young new Angelina Jolie clone, at least for a while.
