Yet even a broken clock is right twice a day. Murdoch is in it for the money, and the secret of his success is how he makes that money. Rupert’s specialty is building media outlets that fill a gap left by the other media outlets.
When he started out in Australia a lot of the major newspapers leaned to that country’s equivalent of the Tories. His newspapers leaned toward the Labor Party, because that was an unexploited market. Fox News exists and has such high ratings because there is obviously a gap it is filling in the rest of the media.
I think when people criticize Murdoch, they choose to be blind to the fact that EVERYONE is in business to make money — he’s just much better at it than most, so they think he must be the bad guy. The real bad guy is the guy sitting next to you at the office, or standing in front of you at the store — he’s the one “buying” the products Murdoch (and every other billionaire) sells, and therefore keeping those businesses booming. So at least vent your anger at the real culprit. Murdoch is merely cashing in on what sells — so in America, who can really blame him?

To hear Megan Fox say anything bad about anybody is laughable. Worked with her on the set of both Transformer movies, and the crew loathed working with her. She’s the most unappreciative, disprespectful, unflattering girl to step on a set in a long time. While everyone was killing themselves working on this movies, she would show up with her bored looking face that told eveyone, she didn’t want to be there… She’s low class, uncomfortable in her own skin, and her energy is a dark cloud that wipes the beauty right off her face, once you get to really know her. Hey, how many actors would work on a movie for six months and after the last shot get in their car and leave, without saying goodbye or nothin to anybody.

I didn’t see anyone calling Bob Orci ungrateful when he went onto the Ain’t It Cool News message boards to personally point the blame for the minstrel robots at Bay and away from himself, Kurtzman, and Kruger. Star Trek was what K+O needed to permanently extract themselves from Bay’s company. A decent opening for Jennifer’s Body would be all the evidence required to prove Fox has an audience who’ll show up to stare at her whether there are giant robots or not. A project like comic adaptation “Fathom” would be perfect after that. It’s unabashed sexploitation in the guise of a superheroine/fantasy story. She may actually be able to pull off a career as a young new Angelina Jolie clone, at least for a while.

If anything, the reverse is true: Today virtually no one talks seriously about Marxism, or can envision a world structured by something other than global capitalism, and this was not the case in the 1970s; neoliberalism / ‘free market’ theory, which is about as un-left as you can get, is now part of everyone’s basic ideological underpinning; if you’re just talking about the national parties, the Democrat platform is quite a bit more centrist than it was in the 1970s.
The really genius work of the fox news, drudgereport, etc. is that they present totally regressive and hawkish politics and economics as moderate-conservative (which works, because people who are on board with the insularity and jingoism these outlets promote don’t want to see reflections of their views coded as ‘radical’ or ‘fundamentalism’ etc.), and the net effect is that there’s a total recalibration of the left-right spectrum, in which even very genuinely moderate policies or proposals that come from Democrats can be, according to a certain logic, derided as ‘radically left-wing,’ or ‘Marxist’ or whatever else.
If everyone has moved ‘extreme left,’ I’m not sure if that’s such a terrible thing – the country is quite a bit less racist and sexist than it was thirty years ago; while there never seems to be much public concern over war in Afghanistan, the most recent invasion of Iraq was protested beforehand (in contrast, the Vietnam protests didn’t begin until well after the fact, until footage of Americans being wounded came back).

for all those fox news bashers, has nobody seen the rachel maddow show- she is absolutely the same as those fox people like glenn beck, etc., only for the other side. she’s not the only one on the liberal side that does the glenn beck rush limbaugh thing, please, pay attention… i thought the person who commented about murdoch exploiting vacancies in news/opinion segments was insightful. i don’t know enough to say it’s true, but if so, though i don’t think his motives are anything other than capatalistic, perhaps we shouldn’t be bashing him afterall… oh, and by the way, i find megan’s straight up unfiltered talk refreshing. i think it’s a shame that soon she’ll become the politically correct ass-kissing bore that the rest of hollywood is. i’m sure she was dead-honest about the director. why would she make something like that up? clearly, she had nothing to gain from it. directors should just calm the fuck down- and their jealous crew…
