EXCLUSIVE: So here’s what happened: the script only came in Friday, and it was the first draft that Dimension Films had seen. And The Weinstein Co was rushing to get the film into production for a November start date because it has to be done by January when director Patrick Lussier starts a film for Avi Lerner. A release for Summer 2010 was planned. Sure, the rumor mill claims TWC is out of money amid all those layoffs, and TWC couldn’t agree on a $2.5M budget battle with Lussier, and TWC had key crew ready to fly to Shreveport. But I understand that Bob Weinstein shut down H3D pre-production “because Bob just felt it was rushing too fast.” Now Dimension plans to start the film after My Bloody Valentine 3D helmer Lussier is free. (After all, the film editor got his directing start making Dracula 2000 for the Weinsteins.) But I know what you’re thinking: Rob Zombie’s reboot sequel Halloween II did lousy at the box office so perhaps TWC wants to cut its losses. “We make those pics for very little money and tight marketing dollars so anything north of $25M is a huge success for us,” an insider tells me. Meanwhile, HII, whose domestic total is now $32M, will get a re-release on Halloween in selected theaters for midnight showings.

Thank god. The Weinstein’s probably realized how bad of a writer/director team MBV really is.
This is the smartest decision Dimension has made in the past 5 years.
“Thank god. The Weinstein’s probably realized how bad of a writer/director team MBV really is.”
My Bloody Valentine 3D director knew how to make a good simple slasher film that didn’t try to be anything more than what it was. Rob Zombie only knows how to make House of 1000 Corpses over and over again. MBV made a good slasher, Mr. Zombie knows how to cast his annoying wife and give a shitty white trash back story to a slasher that didn’t need a back story.
Completely disagree..
I have the feeling that this has more to do with lack of cash than a mere scheduling problem. And while some may say that H2′s $32 million was okay, in comparison with the movie’s $15 million budget, but that didn’t include prints and advertising, which, was at minimum, that much all over again.
If they were thrifty and lucky they broke even, but they haven’t been very thrifty, or lucky for quite a while.
Why did I suddenly get a feeling of Summit making Halloween 3D sometime next year?
A re-release of Halloween 2????? So that more people can see it is truly one of the worst movies of the year. I love the series, but such a badly written movie.
I don`t agree , The movie was zombies`s version, just carpenter had his version and now this guy.
the movie was madness and with blend realism ,and great acting by Malcolm Mcdowell and Brad Dourif .
The series ended with halloween 2 . now making a sequel to it is ajoke .
Why don’t they re-release the original Halloween (1978) in theaters during Halloween. I bet that would be a hit. So many people love this movie, many of whom are too young to have actually seen it in theaters (like me).
Weinstein probably saw the awful My Bloody Valentine and changed his mind.
Bad week for the Weinsteins: they layoff multiple employees, lose a key ruling in their lawsuit against Lionsgate & Precious, Tom Ortenberg deserts the sinking ship and now this. After years of steamrolling over people, and being the biggest bullies on the Hollywood playground, I wonder how they feel now that the shoe’s on the other foot? Sucks to be them. Boo hoo.
Big freakin’ whoop. Bob Weinstein is still doing everything he can to prove he’s just like Dino De Laurentiis, and Avi Lerner does what he can to be Menaheim Golan. What a fascinating train wreck to watch.
Look buddy, H2 didn’t have no Joe Grizzly, because if you recall, in the first Halloween, he was trying to pass his beast in peace before MM showed up and prevented him from dropping his load! So, what we have here is a failure to communicate!
RIP Joe Grizzly.
What is going on over there? Seriously. Who over there has any sort of handle on anything? Harvey and Bob are the figureheads, but Poster left a long time ago.
Hey…how about a re-release of the Original HOLLOWEEN 1 and 2. That woul dbe a smarter move. I am sick of remakes. Enough already. Rob Zombie make a huge mistake of even trying to remake a classic. Stick to singing DUDE!!!
Surely I can’t be the only one who thought MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3D ($100mil worldwide, btw) did exactly what it was supposed to — be loud, heavy-handed, and full of 3D gore gags. It was also finely polished technically. I can’t blame the Weinstein’s for trying to land Lussier.
I guess it’s kind of good that this film was cancelled. Rob Zombie did such a great job with his two remakes that it would be disastrous if anyone else even attempted at making another “Halloween” film.
Well said. MBV played at the arclight and opening weekend, the crowd was GROANING at the dialogue, laughing during the supposedly ‘intense’ sequences and bitching about their ticket which cost 16 bucks and asking for their time back.
A good slasher? Hardly. Inept filmmaking at its finest. Who gave the retards a crayon to write and a camera to shoot that disaster?
I don’t think any run-of-the-mill slasher will be able to duplicate My Bloody Valentine’s success, as it was the first genre film in 25 years to use 3-D. Unfortunately, it also fell back on the gimmick (negative parallax) that killed 3-D in the 1980s. If Cameron’s Avatar fails, 3-D can book a flight to Neverland…
i think you all are nuts, rob zombie is a genius. you all could be so lucky to have an imagination such as his.
I think not, Jimmy.
While Zombie did show that he had the potential to be something truly great with “The Devil’s Rejects” and his reboot of “Halloween”, “Halloween II” just didn’t cut it. The movie was sloppy and poorly edited. Also – maybe it’s something subconscious for Zombie, but not ALL of his films have to be positioned against a white trash backdrop.
Dimension should have bought the rights to the movie “Trick R Treat”. Sad it is only getting a DVD release. I saw it….it is the best horror movie ever released in the past two decades. It IS that good. Oh well, let Dimension continue making the crappy remakes. If that is what the Weinsteins want on their movie schedules.
RZ’s Halloween was awful. His sequel was the worst movie of the year and that’s saying something with films like Bruno. Now we get the cancellation of the 3-D? BEST THING I’VE HEARD ALL DAY. Now we need to take this a step forward. FOLD THE FRANCHISE. Halloween needs to either be folded or brought back to the original series. We don’t need any other hack of a director coming in and destroying Halloween any more than what’s been done. Not to say Lussier is a bad director… he’s a simple slasher 3D director. Halloween should NEVER be in 3D.
Anyone who comments that Lussier’s “My Bloody Valentine” remake was anywhere near as terrible as Rob Zombie’s “Halloween” and its sequel is just being contrarian. Don’t get me wrong, Lussier’s “My Bloody Valentine” IS junk, but it’s fun, competent and enjoyable junk…which is more than can be said for Zombie’s miserable vanity projects. Why on earth would The Weinstein Company re-release Zombie’s “Halloween II” after it was so reviled by audiences and critics alike? If you fart in the middle of a dinner party and are lucky enough that no one noticed, do you do it again?
holy shit, has this world finally come to its senses?! Finally people are telling rob zombie to fuck off as a filmmaker, oops, did i say filmmaker, i mean hack of the fucking decade!! So jason and freddy and leatherface get respectable(not good mind you)remakes with directors that have a sense of the word vision and the greatest fucking killing machine of all fucking time is given to rob fucking zombie!!!!? Wake me the fuck up man cause this is not happening right? I didnt just witness the remake of halloween 1 and 2 by someone that is more interested in showing his true white trash backround and heritage along with the dog shit acting of his white trash wife instead of giving us a true reboot(did we need it though, really?)of a monsterous madman with no reasoning, no remorse, and no fucking backround story asshole, oh, and save the crappy masks for something else. There is one and always will be one true mask, i didnt know you wanted slipknot to be in your film rob. Listen you can paint a terd an easter egg but its still a terd and the weinsteins should be fucking crucified for allowing this bullshit to go down, they have destroyed a film icon, a legend. Fuck them!! Oh, one more thing kiddies, Fuck john crapenter as well, yeah thats right! You wannna know why, cause he is in it for the money now, heard the guy say it himself at q&a once! For a decade no one could touch him, 78-88, not craven, not hooper, not romero, not landis, not dante, no one when it came to supense and horror. Halloween, The Fog, The thing, Christine, Big trouble in Little China, Prince of Darkness, everyone of these films are fucking classics, and absolutley terrifying with vision and mastery that rob zombie dreams about having someday in a galaxy far far away, when pigs fly fucker. And you know what, crapenter sold his rights to his films for money and didnt care about the result, has anyone seen the fog remake, I fucking dare you, almost as bad as halloween remake. So ok, lets give the next halloween to a guy that gave us the 2nd worst horror film of the year in MBV 3d?! Hahahahahahaha, oh shit man this is gettin better and better, maybe the next halloween will have that fantastic suspense and pace and acting that MBV had, wait a minute, oh thats right, it didnt have any of those things, just going from one kill to the next while shitting all over a classic in the original. And now i am gettin down off my soap box to go watch saw 14, Horror in this day and age is dead, or maybe its the audience that is fucking retarded, when a movie like the descent goes virtually unnoticed(best horror film past 10 years)and halloween 1 remake makes 70 million i know the twilight zone is real, i am fucking living in it!! Later fool……
Let’s face the painful facts shall we?
Rob Zombie really screwed up making the remakes, period!
Part 2 was even worse then part 1.
He changed too much about the shape to turn him into a normal crazy serial killer. The mystery of myers was taken away.
The silent killer was taken away and replaced with some homeless man who grunts when he kills. Myers is more creepy when silent and drivin by the devil himself which is why he won’t die,the man was possessed by pure evil, and not human anymore, which is why he won’t die. which is what made the film and the shape interesting.
not have him grown up in a abusive family and have him into killing animals at a young age. this is typical serial killer 101 profiling. the real myers was a good kid,a bit on the quiet side, and one day he simply was taken over by some type of evil spirit and the boy who once was,was no more. there is no background
of how he became evil,it just happened. he was taken over and driven by evil to kill, mainly to kill his entire family.
Once he did that,i’m sure he would of died or maybe not.
in the pagen law which this was based on,a man could live forever if he went out and killed his whole family, but that didn’t seem like the case for myers. he simply seemed possessed by the devil.
The only way to stop him was how they did it in halloween 2.
he was burned alive and burned to ashes.
or buy a rocket launcher and blow him up would do the trick.
unless you destroy his body entirely,he will keep getting up.
but even if u do kill himthe evil still lives on and goes to another, which is what they tried to do in halloween 4 at the end.
the little girl was now taken over by evil. not a bad way to end it but they didn’t end it and brought myers back again! and made it even more weird.
Zombie’s version was just not intersting and had no mystery like the original did. people liked watching michael get shot and fall down as if he were dead, only to rise again to kill. thats the mystery which fed the film, along with the mask. the silence.
the force inside mikey to make him get up.
zombie had none of this,he made it seem like when mikey got shot or hurt,he got shot in places where he could still live through it.
basicly he is not driven by some evil force now,he’s just a serial killer who grew up wrong, came from abuse, and when he gets shot?
he gets shot in the shoulder or side of the head. near misses, which exsplain why he id still alive for part 2.
he took away the myth!
he turned sam loomis from a caring, smart doctor obsessed in fidning and killing myers before it was too late,to some ego greedy man out to make a buck from the bloodshed.
that was a huge mistake!
I like malcom mcdowel too,but his acting was phoned in in these 2 films and the writing was crap. the lines were crap.
zombie has a way perverted mind and even that shows in the writing.
we know you like porn, zombie! we get it!
the dialog is so typical of him and not very good.
how many times do you hear the words, fuck in the flick?
the only thing zombie got right was the mask in his first film,it’s better then what they gave us for halloween 4-9
it was closer to the kirk mask then any other at least.
but he also managed to ruin that for part 2, giving us a mask all torn up enough to see the actors face and eyes, which made him look like a bum in heat. didn’t look like the shape anymore.
ya simply don’t mess with the mask. the mask is all.
ya don’t change the fact michael is driven by evil and cannot die
unless burned or blown up,as loomis took him out.
halloween 1-2 to me were lightning in a bottle.
both to me considered one big movie hooked together to make one huge story since it started right after the first night and with logic took it to the place where it should of been taken to.
a hospital, where obviously the victims would go to after almost being killed and sliced up. made sence to have it in a hospital for part two. they already did part one,the stalking around the houses and everything. so of course mikey would follow his sister to the hospital to continue his quest to kill her. made sence to me. i don’t know why people say halloween 1 is better then two. sure it is,but if ya think of it as one big story, both films hooked together? it works better that way and is done with logic.
i think halloween 2 was just as good, but not better.
ya can’t top the first two movies and ya can’t ramake films better when they have already been done to perfection. including cast and writing. loomis was more intersting in the originals with his ghostly like speaches… and more obsessed in halloween 2.
he had some killer lines. zombie tried to copy this a tad in halloween one,but that came off as a cheap husstle from mcdowell and was a very insult to donald.
zombie’s problem was that he thinks like a pervert when writing.
too much foul language for every character. he changed the story for michael way too much,he changed the shape way too much.
he went way into la la land with his wife in halloween 2 as a spirit with a white horse? i mean, hello? thats so halloween 5 ish in story telling..i’m sure that was written in just to give his wife more work since he is the only one who hires her and his typical friends from his other floppy movies. the devils rejects cast and 1000 corpes.. all of them on set waiting to get paid peanuts for a role…
he should of made it simply and more true to the real halloween and stuck true to mikeys evil driven ways. dont mess with the mask too much, the tears were enough with some blood splatter.
mikey must never speak. he shouldn’t come from some abusive home, which exsplains his madness.
remake. but dont remake it too far gone from the original.
which didn’t even need to be remade anyways.
just re-release the originals in theaters and guess what?
people would pay to see the originals over zombies movies any day.
i say never remake a movie that does not need it,simply bring it back out to the theaters for the next generation to see.
i bet if you brought out halloween 1-2 in the theaters right now in october? it would rake in millions for people would love to see it in the movie theater again, kinda like star wars. they would come. so don’t remake movies that are perfect….. 9-10 so far?
they have been worse then the original.
only movies that need remakes are ones with special effects that can benifit from better CGI or what not. like KING KONG,for one.
jacksons ape never looked more real, then with a man in a monkey suit. thats understandable.. now we have nightmare on elm street remake? from the trailer,it looks stupid. there can only be one freddy, and thats not being sentimental. i think it’s a tad early for a remake of elm street,as well as it was for myers or jason.
they didn’t hit new ground. same old same old and it was not even better.
what needs to be done?
forget michael myers for4-5 years, wait and have someone who knows what people and fans want to do another real re-boot of it.
someone who would of done it right. like me of course.
i wouldn’t of let zombie screw up with all that he has screwed up in making these two film remakes. i can’t believe they bought into it myself. yeah thats cool! thats good! thats better!
umm,no! his first one was better then the second, but he really screwed alot of things up and does not know how to write dialog for different characters.. they are all the same and in most cases?
annoying.. his laurie strode was annoying like tina in halloween 5.
same frickin acting and character. everyone hated that tina and that movie.
halloween should of ended after halloween 2.
but even if they wanted a halloween 3,not season of the witch, but a real halloween 3 movie? i could of thunk of something way better then that! a bit more real and serious and to the point. less complicated and more or the same mystery and interest.
it’s not all about mikey going around killing.
people like to see mikey get shot and fall from buildings and crash through doors and windows.
they like to see him rise up again, when you think he is dead.
the music is key. you shouldn’t change the music which is half the movie.
the key to halloween was the mask. the shape. looms and his character and lines and obsession, the mystery and evil, and the music. the deaths were cool and all,but people were more intersted in why this guy kept getting up and not dying.
the evil kirk mask… the silent walking killer who walked as if he was being pulled by satans hand.. if there was a glass door in front of him? he walked through it to chase his prey.
he was non stop evil.
zombie was sloppy and accepted things he thought were good in his own mind.. bad idea being not a very good writer.
take advice from other people if they are qualified enough to do so. of course in his mind it was great. the acting was brilliant!
not! nobody had good acting in both of his films.
phoned in…. obvious to see and hear.
mcdowell should of watched the orginal to see how donald did it right. and zombie shouldn’t of changed loomis into a ego greedy ahole, but that is how mcdowell is use to playing his roles, with ego, because he has one. not donald.. all class and a character you liked and wanted to live in the end. you didnt give a hoot about mcdowells loomis. he was low budgit compared to donald and his acting and the writing.
zombie really screwed up halloween. it’s done.
they shouldn’t go on with his style or version.
you have two choices..
wait 4-5 years and re-do it again, better and more faithful tot the myth with better actors and writers, like me.
or continue with the old series and make halloween 9 or ten is it?
i would suggest another reboot…
nobody could make it great as i could.
nobody. my ideas are gold and my vision is solid.
i know these movies. and know myers and the whole reason of why.
the only thing zombie should of done different was added a few sessions in the nutward with mickey growing up,waiting.
not once did we see mikey just sitting there waiting, staring at the walls, looking through the walls.. looking at this very day.
he waited, never spoke and was the ideal patient in many ways.
just add on a few things, change a few deaths maybe but leave the classics but for gods sakes? hire real actors and know how they are suppose to be and act. loomis with an ego? bad idea.
sometimes making the same movie isn’t a bad thing, for at least it’s on up to date film and sound and lighting can be better.
you can add in more scenes and make it your own in that sence.
zombie simply went too far and changed too much.
i’m sure he did it more in halloween 2 to simply piss off the world for that is what he gets off on.
he’s no director and no writer.
whos to blame? the ones who let him do it!
Carpenter for one and the company who owns the rights.
they let this idiot do it.
i just hope we can all forget them and wait and simply have someone better do it right….. yes, like me.
hey dude. i totally agree with u. rob z. totally screwed halloween up. he took away everything that made michael myers cool. he turned him into a big serial killer, and not an unstoppable force of evil. i could do a better remake than rob did. we both could because we are true halloween fans and we know the right formula in making a scary halloween movie.
H2 was the biggest piece of crap that has ever been made… the village was better, no Halloween 3 was 1000 better than this mess. Why did we have to sit thru this piece of trash that was nothing more than a movie written around his wife…….. the dead mom, white horse MM as a kid. WTF………… I mean Jason Vorhees is all about mommy… the only good part was
the whole nightmare thing. That was great.. why did michael grunt as he stabbed people?
We were promised awesome death scenes, u did not see but the cutting the dudes head off.. anyone that thought this movie was anywhere close to good is the stupidest human being alive……. WHY RE RELEASE such a piece of crap? Are they gonna take out the stupid shit of the mom horse and anything past laurie waking up from her nightmare??????? This movie should have went str8 to the $5.00 bin at Walmart.. I think that Waterworld was better than this piece of shit…………
As long as they make another Halloween film, I won’t care what it is. As long as it is out by two years, I am great! (I hate how they make them 5 years after the last one. and then say it is a year later. make one each two years!)
I’ve come to the conclusion that most people who loved rob’s remake and sequel are eiether very young (this generation will watch anything since most are braindead)or a fan of rob’s music.
To me the “orginal” HALLOWEEN is a masterpiece. It’s right up there with PSYCHO and THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. To see those films as a kid was a life changing experience. (Maybe if you didnt grow up in the 70′s and 80′s these films seem tame today.)Kudos to one of my favourite directors of all time, John Carpenter, for making such a stellar film. From the opening shot of the pumpkin (the creepiest pumpkin I’ve ever seen, even to this day!)and johns wonderful score I was hooked at 9 years old, and never tire of watching it! The atmosphere alone is amazing. Man, I could go on and on…
Rob’s version is clearly whats wrong with horror films today. The imagination factor has been deleated and now its all blood, blood, and more buckets of blood to try and make a point. Havent these “so called filmakers” ever see a hitchcock film? Jeez.
Remember the film the late “Bob clark” (R.I.P) made back in 1974 called “Black Christmas”? There’s another great example of how to make a slasher movie, “the right way”. I miss films like that. When not everything was spoon fed to you and you were left thinking about the movie weeks after you saw it. Now? It’s all about how much blood we can show to “scare” the audience. Pathetic. This guy missed the boat completely. The gift we all possess is imagination. It would be nice to find a director that understands this nowadays.
I dont care about 3D…
I dont care about how much blood can be spilled in 90 mins…
I dont care that this was rob zombie’s “vision”
I just want a “competent” horror film.
Rob’s films arent it!
first off I must say that I am a huge fan of the series and even though 3 of the last 4 films have been complete and utter shit I was kinda disappointed to see the plug pulled on h3….yea ok 3d aside…i think a new mind on the franchise is what the series needs….i could give all my ‘expert’ opinions on where to go with the next installment but I’m not because I’m not a pro by any means….yea I wasn’t too impressed with mbv but it wasn’t terrible….i think lussier would give the series a breath of air….anything besides another zombie film….i thought his remake of the original was good if u take into consideration it was his vision but part 2 could have been done better by someone with a head full of acid…..i hope now that all options are open they really work on the story and not just gore and blood scenes…..develop the characters of laurie and brackett….maybe even bring an older tommy doyle into it( like they did in part 6 which is one of my faves by the way…paul rudd did an amazing job) who knows…we can speculate and bitch and give our ‘genius’ insight as to how the film should go but in all reality the industry will do it if they feel they can turn a profit….lets just hope they don’t sell themselves (weinsteins/malek akkad) short once more………ps- I would have liked to seen marcus nispel or alexandre aja do the original remake…..we wouldn’t be in the messageboards as pissed off
If half of you guys think the second halloween is the worst film you have seen then you probably are not in a good frame of mind to comment. There are far worse movies.
As for that crap valentine movie, did it even get popular? That was worse than any RZ flick.
RZ is still new to the game, a few more films and he’ll be ok, I think he needs a partner more then just doing it on his own though, just to give more of a level playing feild editing wise.
I do agree though that he should stop using his wife, she is very irritating.
I loved Halloween 2! Rob Zombie’s vision of Myers was awesome, I loved it and respected the fact that it mixed things up. You guys want Myers to act like he did in ’78 or ’81? Go watch the originals. H2 was depressing, sad, ultra-violent, dark as hell..everything a horror fan should appreciate. “but Myers is from a white trash family, he looks like a hobo, Loomis is an asshole..” wah wah wah, you people sound like a broken record. RZ did a great job, and I enjoy and respect his Halloween films as much as the original two. BTW, his H2 blows away the original sequel. I can hear heads exploding now from Halloween fans, so what. Halloween 2 was an OK movie, a really unecessary extension of the first masterpiece. Michael falls off balcony, goes after little sister at the hospital, kills a few folks and gets burned up by Loomis. Fine, ok. RZ’s H2 took it to another level. Parts 4 and 5 were ok but eventually not even acknowledged in the Halloween storyline. Part 4 with Myers hanging off the back of the pickup truck and then on the roof? Come on, that’s total crap. Part 6, awful. H20, loved it. Ended the storyline perfectly. Resurrection? Rick Rosenthal is a fine director but this is one the worst films ever made, a disgrace to Halloween fans. So Zombie comes along and gives us his take..loved it. I love his music but that has no bearing on my opinion of his films. He doesn’t even use his own music in his films after House of 1000 Corpses. I’m 38, been a huge fan of the franchise ever since I was about 10. I’m not some newbie, I’m a huge film fan and I’ve been pretty shocked at the hatred spewed at H2. This is a misunderstood movie that I think some of you will appreciate a few years down the road.
Sorry steve, but no fan of the orginal classic is going to revisit rob’s remakes in 10 years and say : Now I get it!
Give me a break. The remake and the 2nd film sucked…period.
If you honestly thought this was an amazing film then god bless…
I mean I guess there is someone out there who thought “The Swarm” was a great film too….
