Here's that Nazi video yet again, this time a very partisan parody of a supposedly uncomfortable moment just before the WGA's Meet The Candidates night last week. (C'mon, if showbiz writers can't appreciate a spoof, then no one can...)

Carl Icahn Now Wants ALL Of Lionsgate
That was fucking brilliant.
There is really just nothing besides genocide and global war itself that should ever, ever, ever fucking EVER be compared to anything surrounding Hitler.
I’m not Jewish, I’m not a veteran, I don’t have parents or grandparents that fought in World War II. I’m a writer and I love the guild.
But I’m not an idiot asshole who thinks anything that might be going on the frickin’ WGA is worthy of being compared to anything related to Hitler.
60 million people died. It’s effect on human history is lasting and permanent.
This is a power fight between rich writers who are now currently sitting in air conditioning.
Fucking grow up.
I was lukewarm until 2:22 when Patric laments that he will have to cancel his planned truth tours. After that it was belly-laughs until the end.
Not judging the merits of this video, but you DO know that this Downfall clip is the source of umpteen million parodies on YouTube, right?
It’s an internet meme, dude. Not an actual attempt to compare Verrone to Hitler.
And I *am* a Jew. So thanks, cuz normally I agree that comparisons to Hitler are overblown and offensive, but in this case, it’s a well-established goof that’s been used to make fun of everyone from Microsoft to Hillary Clinton.
BTW, the movie “Downfall” is excellent. Everyone should see it if they haven’t.
Yeah, still think it’s dumb.
Just because others before have been equally stupid doesn’t forgive it to me. Just tired of seeing them.
Jimmy,
From in the battlefield, to concentration camps, to being burn alive in a church, I had over a dozen relatives killed in WWW2. Pretty much most of my very old and wide spread family.
Yet I can find humor in this video. I can watch Hogan’s Heroes too.
Take it easy, bro.
It doesn’t get any funnier (or more brutally honest) than that.
Holy crap. That’s the best recap of the last week I’ve seen. Hilarious.
no. that was f—ing retarded and ass backwards. even as an outsider it’s obvious john wells ego totally got in the way and undermined the WGA negotiating position. patric verrone = hitler is as stupid as obama = hitler.
Actually, the dialogue is pretty spot on with what happened.
Hitler should sue. Being compared to Verrone is prima facie slander.
Hands down the funniest thing I’ve seen on the internet since that Isreali wedding video where the floor collapsed, sending them all to their deaths.
Who ever did this deserves a writing job on FAMILY GUY!
Finally, some actual creativity in a political race involving writers! Beyond the funny, I think this video does a good job of presenting very legitimate complaints and concerns about Verrone, Elias Davis, and the WU slate administration’s bunker mentality over the past few years.
Easily the best “Downfall” parody I’ve ever seen. And reading the actual speech, I’m guessing that was pretty close to Mr. Verrone’s actual reaction. LOL!
at least it’s an admission that Wells went behind the back of everyone in the guild who actually thought their elected reps were negotiating during the strike. Hollywood has never had much use for democracy. It’s all about money and power the losers who suck up to the people that have it.
I thought the Downfall meme was done, but this is really and painfully funny.
Green Acres parody song? Futurama? “I hate that robot”? Admit it, you laughed.
Once again, Hollywood shows the world how utterly inane, morally bankrupt and non-creative it is. It’s not “cool”, “funny” or “hip” to make comparisons to Hitler. It’s an insult to the millions of people who died because of his evil.
This is one of those situations where you laugh and cry. You laugh, because it’s perfectly crafted and hilarious. You cry, because the guys currently in charge of the WGA (and their hand picked successors in this election) have lost multiple millions of dollars for the membership by giving away EST download rates that were negotiated in 2001.
It’s funny because it’s true, but the truth of this video also sadly spotlights the problems with WGA leadership for the last few years.
I guess it’s come to this, WGA writers stealing from YouTube amateurs.
“even as an outsider it’s obvious john wells ego totally got in the way and undermined the WGA negotiating position.”
Somebody should’ve told John Bowman that back when he was thanking Wells for saving the WGA’s asses. But I guess the chair of the negotiating committee probably wouldn’t know as much about it as an outsider.
We’ll know that it’s time to stop this Downfall sub joke when there will be a video of Hitler shouting there are too many Downfall sub joke videos.
Anybody who’s going to get all bent out of shape over the Hitler analogy needs to grow a sense of humor, or else google “downfall parody” and spend the rest of your holiday weekend lodging complaints against the forty thousand hits you find there.
Oh, and just a warning. Most of those hits are not nearly as funny as this one.
You know, Verrone & Co. tried to make viral videos a big part of their corporate campaign, but they just got schooled.
Wow, forty thousand??
I think I’ll change my opinion then.
Nothing on the internet is ever popular AND crap.
How silly of me.
Hysterical.
Also hysterical: that writers who struck over internet don’t know what’s on the internet.
It’s really frickin’ hilarious because it’s also really true.
Hilarious. And true.
Not the Hitler part, but the truth tours.
Oh our wasted dues…
One of my favorite “Downfall” spoofs was this one from the strike. Genius.

As funny as it is accurate. Anyone who disputes either case shouldn’t be working in this town. It isn’t Godwin’s Law at play here, it’s the definition of insanity: repeating the same behavior with the expectation of different results. Verrone = Epic Fail.
Anyone who’s spent more than ten minute with the man will recognize this as documentary, rather than parody.
I’m both a Jew AND a Truth Tour participant and supporter, and hell, I even think it’s funny. Not exactly original, but funny.
Great stuff. For those of you upset about the content, shut up and be quiet. Brilliant piece of work. ****
That was the best thing John Wells ever wrote. I wonder what writer he stole it from.
Not sure if it’s accurate. Am sure it’s not that funny.
When can the guild members that worked on Downfall expect their re-use checks?
Very funny, although the one they did for the release of “Watchmen” was even better.
What it does do is shine the light on the big elephant in the room that no one ever brings up, which is if the WGA truly wants to be as powerful as possible, then the Wells and McFarlanes of the guild (the guys in that 50 million+ club) all need to pony up to create a truly meaningful strike fund that would allow the majority of the membership to weather a year long strike WITHOUT having to repay the money. I know it seems crazy, but low or no interest loans don’t exactly get anyone jazzed about walking miles in circles for months.
You could set a threshold for yearly earnings to determine who qualifies as a ‘working’ writer. If the rank and file members knew they wouldn’t lose their houses, you could plan a truly powerful strike to and bring the town to its knees. Hell, the creation and publicizing of such a strike fund alone would be the real bargaining chip with the AMPTP, but it would require the writers who have made the serious coin to all dig deep. Probably too much to ask, but IMHO the only real solution to the WGA having the bullets in the gun to stare down the AMPTP and DGA.
The DGA having so many members who aren’t actual directors (1st A.D.s, etc) will never truly care about the WGA, because none of those A.D.s get residuals, so they could care less, they just want to keep working at all costs (understandable), but at odds with the WGA’s goals.
Again, would require the most successful writers to actually do something major to protect the others so not likely to ever happen.
Hey, “yup”…
“at least it’s an admission that Wells went behind the back of everyone in the guild who actually thought their elected reps were negotiating during the strike.”
Please see the joint Wells/Bowman statement, where Bowman states, “Of course we knew that John was talking to member of the DGA. I asked him to.”
Wells did us a huge favor. You guys ought to be thankful instead of resenting John for his success.
Getting lost in all this “fun,” is a huge concern of mine and many other writers: “where are our internet residuals?” I’ve worked on a show that’s been on the air three seasons. They run full episodes on their website. Three years, not one internet residual payment. What the hell did we strike for? If the studios can just say, “We’re having trouble nailing down the accounting,” and there’s no pressure from our guild, then again, I ask, Why the hell did we strike?!! Whichever candidate answers this with a concrete solution gets my vote. Go!
I wonder who from Writers United got this video yanked?
Just a correction, because it’s often repeated that AD’s don’t get residuals.
They do. Firsts and Seconds…and UPMs too.
And while their portion of the residual pie is smaller than that of feature directors, I suspect it’s as significant a percentage of their overall income.
You’ve got to love this! Here’s the logline: a WGA president who’s devoted more time and energy to strengthening his union and to achieving gains for writers than any other officer in that union’s history is portrayed as a power hungry credit hogging megalomaniac.
Laugh-out-loud Funny!
“at least it’s an admission that Wells went behind the back of everyone in the guild who actually thought their elected reps were negotiating during the strike.”
You might try paying attention to the facts. Bowman asked Wells to talk with the DGA. The only person in the WGA leadership who apparently didn’t know about this seems to be Patric Verrone.
“… a WGA president who’s devoted more time and energy to strengthening his union …”
Failed attempts at organizing reality shows, staging “Truth Tours” to rally against American Idol, allowing the AMPTP to water down the language of the DGA deal and failing to enforce the nominal gains achieved in a months-long strike hardly qualify as “strengthening.”
