That the Warner Bros show even made it on the air is a minor miracle since it had been in TV development hell for eons and is based on that really old 1987 movie in the first place. But “Eastwick has been the quiet success story,” a top ABC exec tells me. “Especially because we put very little marketing money against it.” So the series sounds safe for now.

What the fuck is wrong with you, Nikki? You’re over 50, and you’re calling a 22 year old film, “really old” – thanks for keeping ageism alive and well on all fronts in the entertainment business.
If you’ve ever been on a set as a Network exec drones on how happy and excited the studio is with the show despite the poor ratings you know that the end is certainly near.
I though it was based on that really old book by some old dead guy, what’s his name, oh yeah: John Updike. Heard of him?
Thank God! This show has become a guilty pleasure for me. I’d hate to see it go so early on.
Eastwick got 8.5 million viewers for its first episode. By last night it was down to 5.1 million. Even LENO beat it. It’s the single lowest-rated show on ABC’s prime-time schedule. If this is their idea of success, I’d like to know what counts as failure–a test pattern?
I think Eastwick is still finding its legs, but it’s nice to see Paul Gross back on tv and Lindsay Price is only mildly annoying this time around. I hope ABC sticks it out and gets behind Jack Huston like they got behind the guys on the early Desperate Housewives. He’s a hottie.
Nikki, did you let ABC publicity write this puff piece? Eastwick tied Leno in demos last night and Jay actually beat it in total viewers. If you consider Leno to be a failure, then you should consider Eastwick a failure no matter how ABC tries to spin it. Usually you don’t fall for network spin.
So quiet that it’s gotten beat by Leno the past two weeks.
ABC should try a trail one of Eastwick after Desperate Housewives or Dancing with the Stars. It would really help the show.
I agree with you Alexa. And since there really has been NO marketing or promotion, with each episode I’ve been getting more and more nervous that it would be cancelled prematurely. This is a great show, perfectly cast and highly entertaining.
There is adiferecne between airing the remaining episodes and,oh, ordering a back nine. I fully expect that this will be gone by spring and Lost will be in the Wednesday 10pm timeslot (with at least the three renewed comedies continuing earlier in the night.) Still, it’s nice to see ABC sticking behindits struggling showsa bit — unlike last year when they pulled Pushing Daisies, Eli Stone and Dirty Sexy Money with three, four and four episodes of each remaining, making us wait for a resolution, only to finally dump them on Saturday nights over the summer.
“Eastwick” is a really fun and interesting show!! I love it!! Each episode has gotten even better…The cast is awesome!! By far, my favorite new show. then “glee” and “Modern Family”. Send “hank” packing-although I worry for the sake of kelseys health.
They need to promote “Eastwick” cuz people are starting to catch on and will continue.
The main guy is terribly miscast and Rebbecca Romijn has um… limited range. But the redhead (Jamie Ray Newman) is a real standout.
I quit on this show two weeks ago after seeing the ratings, figuring it would be cancelled. Guess I was wrong :/
Stop the madness…I’m loving Eastwick!!!! Truly enjoyable.
Ms. Cybill Shepherd was hilarious as a guest star. I hope they bring her back on! I’d tune in for that.
Eastwick actually seems to be a better suit for The CW, but unless they can stabilise the viewers they are haemorrhaging week after week, it will be dead even before it gets the chance to state its case.
22 year old movies ARE old. And better than this show.
It’s a success for them because it only costs about $900k or so an episode. It’s dirt cheap. Hence, even with the crappy ratings, it is likely making money. Just enough to warrant it’s continued airings. Certainly more than some other high profile crap that is currently sticking up the airwaves. I like the show. Hope it sticks around.
This show is the best thing ABC has had on in years. I’m sooooo sick of the reality tv and total crap they’ve been producing. The storyline is interesting and fun and I hope the network sticks with it for awhile. It WILL gain some footing if they’d advertise it better. People that I work with are beginning to tune in and are watching it regularly too. Given some time and money this show would do fine.
The writing is getting better every week and the women are gorgeous. Jaime Ray Newman is great as Kat Gardener. I think that a lot of the show’s target audience records the show and watches it the following day or over the weekend. That is why it is taking a ratings hit. I believe ABC is smart enough to realize this and will pick up the back nine. With the addition of Jerry O’Connell (more eye candy for the ladies) and a few more episodes like “Mooning and Crooning” there should be more talk about the show around the water cooler and at the MOMS Clubs. With a little more ad money and patience the network’s investment should pay off.
I love this show and I hope ABC does keep it on for next season! I’ve seen minimal advertising for it, so unfortunately I think it doesn’t have a chance to get the viewers it could. But I am addicted to it! Wednesdays at 9pm you know where you can find me!
I’ve been watching this show since it premiered and I am quite surprised. My wife and i watch it together and hope that it makes it. It is in a bad time slot I think and has almost zero marketing. I enjoy the mystical atmosphere of the show and do look forward to the next episode.
ABC needs to take full advantage of all of the skill and talent of the actors on this show. I’ll chime in with everyone else and say: MORE PROMOTION!! Yes, I’m a little bit adamant about that but it’s so true. I’m not sure why the execs just aren’t getting it. Maybe they will start. I certainly hope so. This show is funny and entertaining and there are so many possible directions to take the show. Last night was proof that things can definitely move to the darker side of things. I will keep watching this show as long as it continues. Not going anywhere.
Glee was my favorite new show, but Eastwick has grown on me and I look forward more to it than Glee. I would be heartbroken without my weekly fix of Lindsay Price.
