Disney-ABC TV today filed paperwork seeking approval from Los Angeles County for a huge 56-acre production facility on property it has long owned in the Santa Clarita Valley. It would include a dozen soundstages, almost doubling the number it has now in LA County. Predictions are for a $533 million economic boost to the region and about 2,854 new full- and part-time jobs. It’ll be called the Disney/ABC Studios at the Ranch, located on the western edge of Disney’s 890-acre Golden Oak Ranch.

2854 jobs? If Disney/ABC didn’t absolutely suck to work for, this would be exciting news.
I always find the people who do poorly in life and in their jobs always have the worst opinions of any employer they’ve worked for in the past. Perhaps it’s time to take a good look in the mirror and see the real problem.
So long as the EIR is good, and they address traffic issues, I’m all for it.
Now that’s the smartest thing Disney has done to leverage the full assets of the Disney Ranch since the APPLE DUMPLING GANG RIDES AGAIN.
Thank you, Mr.Iger, The Disney Board of Directors, and all the employees creating, supporting and implemenenting this project.
The ranch has been a major asset to location filming in LA County for decades. With the addition of these production facilities
it will only add to the idea of keeping filming here in LA.
And for that alone the entertainment community should be estatic.
One comment though, please leave in place your mgr at the ranch
Steve Sleigh. He is a good guy. He knows production and knows how to keep Golden Oak Ranch in continued good condition for all of us to use for making films and tv.

Given that Universal and Disney have new production facility plans in motion, I wonder what the impact will be in my home state of MA, where they are planning 3 studio locations, including a $500 million project under some ex-Paramount executives at Plymouth Rock Studios. Will there possibly be enough production needs for all of these facilities to be utilized? What if Mass. cuts back on its 25% tax credit – is Plymouth Rock, et. al. in Mass. doomed?
Production will go to where ever they can to get a better deal. Best visual locations, best stages, best support facilities/crews for the project, etc., have nothing to do with it…..whoever gives the best deal gets the project.
It’s all a crap shoot!
As a former Paramount employee who was working under some wonderful people (who were all slaughtered by Mr. Goodman) while living in the Santa Clarita Valley, I would like to say..
THANK THE EMPLOYMENT GODS!!
Now if they could just use it to produce things that would actually be profitable and that we would actually want to watch that would be grrrrrreat.
Production begins on the back lot portion in January. Been in the works for the better part of 5 years. Almost broke ground last October. Everybody wants and needs this to happen. It great for TV production.
56 acres isn’t “huge” for a commercial facility…
250 to 300 homes might occupy the same space…or 20% of a housing development…
