Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

Wait, does Michael Patrick King know you think he’s a woman?
what about husbands and sons – talk about being sexist!!!
Tyra and Miley?!?!?! come on now….
Interesting how few non-singer actresses (a.k.a. real actresses) made the list. Perhaps the “Best Actress” Oscar category should be permanently replaced with “Best CGI Robot or Creature”.
Snarf, it’s not hilarious. It’s offensive and wrong-headed.
Surprised Sue Naegle isn’t on this list. HBO seems to trump some of those other networks.
lol mpk. i did a business deal with him – great man – smart and fair.
love that you included mpk. am sure he will feel honored. he is awesome and smart enough to be a woman, that is for sure!
As to be expected, some strong choices, some odd ones..Literary seems to take a back seat all around…I assume writers were not a category, which, esp in tv seems like an odd omission, since Shonda Rhimes would arguably be pretty powerful.. not one female lit manager OR agent except for JR Walsh, who’s more of a celebrity wrangler than a lit agent..anyway, sad for those of us who toil in those vineyards!
Nikki, you didn’t name one executive, lawyer, producer, etc of color except for Tyra and Beyonce. Really? This town drives me nuts.
What’s sad is that there are probably too few people of color who wield that much power. That should drive you nuts.
And those of you having a hissy fit over the MPK thing should grow a spine. This town is as thin skinned as newborn hatchlings.
Marie, Nikki did list Ann Marie Johnson in her article. Not a lot of people know who she is, compared to Tyra and Beyonce.
But Michael Patrick King? I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.
And Tyra didn’t even deserve it.
But in all fairness, IS THERE one black woman of any influence in the business/legal side of the industry?
Sue Naegle doesn’t make the list? Poor HBO, left out of the opening song on the Emmys and now this…..and April Webster is the casting macher in this town, consistently high quality work such as with the “Star Trek” casting…yes, JJ did a fine job directing but the cast of relative unknowns didn’t come from outer space.
I agree! where’s the love for sue naegle??? she had very big shoes to fill and she’s proving over and over again that she’s got the chops.
Cécile Frot-Coutaz… Absolutely.
Mike Pat King?
I guess there are only 62 important women in Hollywood.
How many times are we gonna ask this same question. Let’s wait for an answer, yeah?
Tyra Banks? Please post why she is on the list.
For all those people who are taking the Post-Modern Position that the women in the “Women & Daughters” category are in some kind of position more powerful than their husbands need a reality check. They have obviously never seen how a Hollywood household/marriage is run. The woman runs the house (ie takes care of the staff, and other domestic duties) and the man runs the business. If someone is seriously asserting that these women are as fulfilled in these positions as their power-wielding husbands, I recommend watching “Mad Men.” Both Don and Betty have their flaws but bored & unsatisfied housewife Betty could win an award for being one of the most miserable female depictions ever. There may be some exceptions in Hollywood but overall most Hollywood wives are Betty Drapers but in more modern clothes.
Okay your list I am laughing at partially..
Dawn Ostroff really the same woman who has destroyed the CW with her tween demo?
Miley Cyrus and Tyra really?
Well at least you didn’t add Paris Hilton to the list LOL
Tyra made 30 mil last year
Casting and coaches, but no writers?
Writers – Tina Fey, Stephenie Meyer, Nancy Meyers.
sorry- a power wife and a power daughter should not be a category. it undermines the credibility of the list which is compiled of people who are industry leaders within television and film. power wife and power daughter are not industry leaders. they’re leaders in other walks of life.
My favorite part is that so far, nobody’s mentioned intuitive psychic Laura Day…
Love this one.
Laura Day has a great book that really prompts intuition- it’s like a workshop, easy read, very helpful. It’s called How To Rule The World From Your Couch http://www.tinyurl.com/LauraDayWidget
Where are the writers? Shonda? Diablo? The staff of Mad Men? Wives and daughters? Oh please… And Oprah? Say what U want – she is on EVERY power list and deservedly so. Agreed Sue Nagle should be there – HBO still has reason to exist, certainly as much as the CW. What of the lit agents? I know some powerful and good ones that are women… But I’m just giving U my opinion Nikke, just like U gave ur to Elle. So everyone, remember that. It IS a subjective list, NF says so, and that’s the truth. Go ahead – spend some time making ur own (perhaps when U are on the treadmill w. ur Blackberry?).
I don’t think Angelina Jolie deserves to be on the list any better than other actresses such as Kate Winslet, who is currently one of the most respected woman in the acting industry after Streep (and MILES better actress than Angelina). As long as Streep is there it is at least believeble. Beyonce is one of the most successful singers right now and she is also praised as an actress. I am not a huge fan but she does deserve to be on the list as well as the annoying Tyra Banks who, somehow, is one of the highest paid women on TV. However I think Oprah is missing from the list and why the hell is Miley Cirus there?!?!? I agree that she is a successful kid, but she is just that A KID. By no mean is she a powerful woman and only time will tell if she will be able to make a successful crossover to adult audiences. Not every child star is able to do this.
Miley’s tickets in England AVERAGED $142 dollars. Is that adult enough for you? Everyone she works with makes money. That is why people are lining up to work with her.
People who know their shit know that Nikki knows her shit.
Congratulations, Nikki, for once again shining in some spotlight you richly deserve.
Don’t forget to add Barbie
*sigh*…I long for the day where specific lists highlighting women are no longer necessary.
The article is from Elle, Nikki just posted the information.
Michael Patrick King is listed as a honorary recipent of the award.
They honor a man every year who represents women in a great way.
He is being honored due to reviving chic flicks!
