Peter Rice, Kevin Reilly, Ira Kurgan, Preston Beckman, and Mike Darnell did a Town Hall with Fox broadcasting folk today. The only major news made by the TV execs is that they’re confident they can get though the fall without any cancellations, though they may not order a Back 9 on everything. Earlier today, FBC ordered the Back 9 so that’s a full second season cycle for Seth MacFarlane’s The Cleveland Show, the Family Guy toon spinoff.

Okay, Family Guy has its moments but American Dad and Cleveland are just not funny. Really, does Seth MacFarlane have some photos of Rupert Murdoch banging a twelve year old boy or something? Maybe try some other animated shows that aren’t created by this guy. Geez.
I know they said they’d air all 13 episodes of Dollhouse, but are they actually planning to do the same for Brothers? I can’t imagine anyone will notice if it disappears.
So Fox is happy with getting beat by the CW on Fridays? THE CW! The basement dwelling Not-Really-A-Network CW? Fox is all cheery about that? Maybe they can excuse the workhorse Smallville at lead off, but Dollhouse is getting beat by reruns. Bottom-dweller CW reruns. And Fox is all copacetic about that? Really? No, really?
They are trying not to throw out the milk before it’s expiration date like usual.
How cute.
Past Life’s 11 episode order has been cut to 6…
Taken together, all the FBC shows deliver a powerful vision of modern Americana. Kudos to a conservative network for being diverse & entertaining. Cleveland is so not “just the Black show.” It’s pushing the envelope for the Simpson’s crowd — a Black family with Redneck neighbors & raunch, raunch, double entendre raunch. I defy these other haterade commenters to give a single example of a show that’s more quintessentially American.
It’s a miracle for a network to support shows long enuf to find a following. I guess they got it like that.
Thanks, Fox! Keep giving it to us good.
The Cleveland Show is awful;just like Family Guy is now.The running gags, pop culture references, and tired cliche can only go on for so long, before people get bore…
Where is that doofus that posted earlier on another thread claiming “Glee would disappear by Thanksgiving…”???
Good for Fox. Glee, Bones and Lie to Me rule. Not sold on the inept writing of Cleveland. They should hire real writers for that show. Kater from Mad Men needs a job…
Peter G….do you know anything about ratings?? Rupert Murdoch wants as much animation from Seth Macfarlane as possible. These shows are fairy cheap to make and are very profitable. American Dad and The Cleveland shows do GREAT in the demo. Not as good as Family Guy but still great. Much better than King of The Hill and Sit Down and Shut Up. Those two shows are animation created by a different guy. I’m sure The Goode Family would have done terrible in the animation block on Sunday too. Ever since Family Guy made it’s comeback…….Seth Macfarlane has been a cash cow for Fox. I would be shocked if he didn’t have a 4th animation comedy come out in the next 3-5 years.
I have truly grown to love American Dad. Animation Domination is the place to be for ads reaching the teen demo. There’s no better spot all week long.
American Dad, to me, has been the most consistently funny and smart one of the bunch. I love Family Guy as well—but it’s a little lower brow.
Not sure about the Cleveland Show yet. Glad to see it doing well…but I’m not loving the characters. It took me two seasons to fall for American Dad however.
Great shows..with the ability for advertisers to reach a tough demo to reach. Important.
I attempted to watch ‘The Cleveland Show’ online last night. I couldn’t even make it to the end of the 21 minute episode. What an atrociously unfunny show. The idea sounded bad on paper, and it plays even worse in actual execution. You take the blandest black cartoon character out of ‘Family Guy’, give him a stock black family, and move him in a neighborhood full of rednecks… and the results are seriously unwatchable. I like Seth Macfarlane, but this one needs to be put down, and soon!
AnneG – This past Friday, Dollhouse was at a 1.0 and a repeat of ANTM was at 0.5. The week before it was at 0.9 vs. 0.5. It’s definitely NOT being beat by reruns on the CW.
Fox needs to get back in the guilty pleasure business make the next 90210 and Melrose that The CW can revive in 2020.
Hey thanks Fox, for not giving up on shows too soon. Too bad you couldn’t have adopted this merciful policy before axing FIREFLY AND ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT (otherwise known as two of the greatest shows EVER!).
Sincerely,
Still ragefully bitter in Illinois.
Nothing will ever be as good as Family Guy, even if it comes from the guy who makes Family Guy.
