Then Leno swears, “I have never had a sexual relationship with any of my staff members.”

Classless. I don’t approve of Letterman’s behavior, but he was honest with his audience about it from the word go, and Leno slams him for it. Then again, I’m sure now many women are clamoring to hook up with either his chin or rather dull sense of humor.
Honest with his audience? Bullshit. I’m as big a Dave fan as anybody, but according to everything that’s been written, he’s been sleeping with staff members for a long time. And he dated his now wife for 21 years before marrying her this March. His production company said the affairs were over by the time he got married. But his kid is 6. You have to assume there’s been quite a bit of double-dipping going on on his part.
He only came out with this bout of “honesty” when the blackmailer was arrested and about to be dragged into court, and it was all going to go public whether he liked it or not. It was spin control, not honesty, we saw Thursday night.
He wasn’t honest with the public about something that was none of their business in fact he didn’t MENTION it at all, which doesn’t make it dishonest. It is called a private life.
He has never taken a moral stand against adultery except that it’s a dumb thing to do, and never claimed not to do dumb things so there isn’t even any hypocrisy at work. Having said all that, Leno’s jokes weren’t all that bad and Letterman can’t complain about that. Leno wasn’t mean spirited about it so I give him credit for that.
When it became clear the affairs, which he is entitled to try and keep secret (if only for the benefit of those he was with) was not going to be anymore he figured he’d come clean, no double talk.

Who says the women were miserable? Might have been – might not have been – You don’t know and I don’t know. I don’t care about a comedian’s private life. I do care about a government leader. Politicians have always been the butt of jokes (including their families). May not be right or fair but if Palin didn’t see it coming, then she was very short-sighted.
Letterman is many things but he is not sanctimonious or self riteous. He leaves that to the right wing hypocrites of which you appear to be fairly representative. People that do dumb things deserve to be made fun of and nobody makes more fun of letterman’s faults than letterman himself.

The joke he made about Palins girl, which was not appropriate in reference to the 14 year old was made in light of the slutty nature of her OTHER daughter who is not even remotely unique in terms of daughters of self riteous christian right politicians. If you want to find a hypocrite, odds strongly favour finding one in a right wing fundamentalist church, make no mistake about that. The rest of us are far more honest about our own failings as is LETTERMAN.

Because stuff was going to be said, and he needed to be the one to say it FIRST and not wait and REACT. It was a smart thing to do, and I have never seen anyone ever do it more honestly or directly than Dave did. People have affairs, it doesn’t make them great people but it happens. He has never said people that do that kind of thing are BAD people or should burn in hell, just that they are idiots for doing it and some of the things they do to cover it up.
Guess what, he never tried to cover it up. (It was a secret but thats called a private life you self riteous pinhead.) He stated it clearly, and indicated clearly that if it had been the women in question it would be one thing, but this was quite another.

I mean come on, the Letterman was not shy to talk about others philandering. And secondly screwing the interns is very sad. A little pain like this is the right penalty.
No matter what you think of the jokes, I think that if the shoe was on the other foot, Letterman would have been on it like Harvey Weinstein on an Oscar.
And let’s not forget about a similar case in Britain. Comedian and actor Angus Deayton was the host of a show called Have I Got News For You, where he and a panel of “experts” and guests regularly, and mercilessly skewered public figures and celebrities over their political, business, and sexual peccadilloes.
One day The News of the World tabloid revealed that Deayton liked to party with hookers and blow. Suddenly those he was trying to satirize were saying: “So what about me, I didn’t involve prostitutes and cocaine like you?” His panelists started mocking Deayton’s scandal, even getting the tabloid story printed on T-shirts they’d wear on the show.
Deayton was actually fired, because the BBC, because they thought the scandal hurt his ability to his job as a satirist.
I don’t think Letterman will, or should be fired, but this can hurt him more than even he imagines. Especially when he goes after people for their own sexual failings.
The issue is not what Leno said. The moral an ethical issue is what Letterman did, and would have gotten away with had he not been outsleazed by an extortionist.

Dave slept with consenting adults over a period of 16 years. It has been reported before that Dave and Regina have been off and on for many of those years.
So everyone is demonizing Dave for this, but when somebody such as Lady Gaga states in an interview that she’s slept with everybody in her band – Where’s the scorn then?
Jay has copied/ripped off Letterman and Stern bits since he took over the Tonight Show… and so do his writers. That hack must be laughing his ass off right now.
But Dave and Stern will be laughing when Jay and his rip off artist writers are out of work.
In just the last week we’ve learned that no means yes, 13 is old enough to consent even when she doesn’t, and the good old days of chasing secretaries around the desk is back. Polanski has ‘suffered enough’ after living as a rich celebrity fugitive, and Dave is ‘classy’ for ‘fessing up to screwing the staff.

Letterman is fine; he never was the “Family Values” type. Yes, he probably cheated on his girlfriend now wife. But at least he does go around claiming he is Mr. “Family Values” like some of our politicians (can you just see the grin on all “Fake News” reporters/commentators). This has been a tough summer, for Dave, for our economy but at least he did not end up on the “Republican 2009 Summer of Love” list: Assemblyman, Michael D. Duvall (CA), Senator John Ensign (NV), Senator Paul Stanley (TN), Governor Mark Stanford (SC), Board of Ed Chair, and Kristin Maguire AKA Bridget Keeney (SC).

I use to think Dave got a bum deal at NBC for loosing the Tonight Show. Now I realize NBC did everyone a favor. They new about Dave. I should have known after Dave made fun of Brandon Tartikoff one of NBC’s best presidents ever. You gotta to have an ego, to mock your boss who just happens to be the guy who put Miami Vice, Hill Street Blues, L.A. Law, ALF, Family Ties, The Cosby Show, Cheers, Miami Vice, The Golden Girls, Knight Rider, The A-Team, St. Elsewhere, Night Court, Hunter, Highway to Heaven, Matlock, Remington Steele, A Different World, 227 etc etc on Network Television.
