Hollywood sources tell me that the drunk driver who in 2007 instantly killed Rudin VP Sam Cassell and his girlfriend Red Wagon VP Rhiannon Meier was recently sentenced to 30 years to life for their deaths. Both victims were only 28 years old.
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

Thank goodness – seeing justice done!!!
The two died very close to where I live. Last week when I called the police on a very drunk neighbor who was driving out onto the same street, they were the foremost thing in my mind. I hope that this can, at the very least, be seen as a lesson that drunk driving has very real consequences.
Thank you for posting this, Nikki.
Sam and Rhiannon were talented and good people who continue to be missed. The whole thing is just super sad.
30 years to life? Was he a repeat offender? Not that I disagree with the sentence, I think drunk driving is one of the most despicable and selfish crimes out there, I just didn’t realize that 30-year+ sentences happened. I thought it was 10 or so.
I say death penalty. Why does he get to live?
Justice isn’t done. The fucker should be drown in a pool of pure rubbing alcohol. Drunk drivers that kill someone should all burn in hell. It’s really that simple.
this isn’t the venue for it, but that’s an incredibly stupid comment.
you sound hysterical. if it’s with grief, that’s fine. but hollywood has nearly 200 bars within a couple miles of this ACCIDENT. late at night, there are a lot of drunk people on the road… up to 50% of all drivers after midnight some nights. we live in a car-mandatory city.
Justice WAS served. 30 years ain’t a pop song. that’s the focus of this report, imbecile. the system dished out rough justice for the crime.
Just because there are lots of bars in the area, doesn’t make it ok to drink and drive. That insinuation of yours is what’s stupid. I realize that people make bad choices, and that unfortunately drunk driving is a fact of life. But that’s no justification for endangering lives. It was his CHOICE to drive while intoxicated; that’s not an accident.
Also, there is no such thing as justice- rough or otherwise- in this kind of situation. Yes he received a hefty sentence of 30 to life. But you need to realize that the families and friends of these two individuals have been given a far worse sentence: a lifetime without a loved one. There is no “justice” that can be served for robbing two innocents of their lives, and causing the agony that this man has caused.
30 years is not enough time for taking two lives. Let’s run the math: assuming Rhiannon and Sam would have lived to 80 years, this driver stole a combined 104 years from their families.
104 years without parole sounds fair to me.
I was there that night-walked over to Roscoes about 30 seconds after it happened. It was not a a good thing to see–and yes he was a repeat offender-My heart goes out to the families.
They are greatly missed… Thanks for posting this.
