I’ve learned that MGM’s horror pic Cabin In The Woods has moved from February 5th, 2010, to January 14th, 2011 on Martin Luther King B-Day. Why such a long delay? Because the studio decided first to make Joss Whedon’s script into a 2-D thriller, and now into a 3-D pic. Also, MGM’s Red Dawn remake, which was supposed to debut September 24th, 2010, is now skedded for November 24th, 2010, Thanksgiving weekend. Its Poltergeist, however, was moved off that date and is undated for 2011 because it’s not ready to go. There are no changes for two more MGM 2010 releases: Hot Tub Time Machine (still March 19th) and Zookeeper (still October 8th). Here’s the kicker: when I asked MGM whether there was any money to market and distribute these films, with the studio is teetering on the brink of bankruptcy, an exec snarked, “It’s not like we’re running our shows at 10 pm weeknights.” Get it? Even MGM is making fun of NBC.

Poor J.Z. just can’t catch a break.
In the immortal words of the great Roseanne Roseannadanna, “Never mind”.
I know I’m being trivial but it was Emily Litella who said “Never mind”
Or he just successfully deflected a good question by playing into your well-known affinity for mocking NBC.
The state of NBC is well known in Hollywood and to the point that it is a laughingstock. Les Moonves is sitting pretty compared to Jeff Zucker. When you make a mockery of 10 PM and put comedy in there in order to save money, you are killing your network to the point that you are in fifth place in a four-network race.
Sitting on multi-million dollar movie for another year to add gimicky 3-D (e.g. they didn’t shoot for 3-D) doesn’t seem to bode well for either the film or MGM.
Given that Joss Whedon’s career is built on good writing and casting (not VFX), I wonder what’s up with the film. Maybe they could sell it to Screen Gems, so it might actually have a chance to open (before 2011, please).
Red Dawn… that’s how they’re gonna pull themselves out of debt?
How can people in Hollywood be this retarded??
Red Dawn’s just an experiment….don’t worry.
I heard what they’re really counting on is a Saved by the Bell/Vampire-esque 3D stunner!!! It’s sked for 2012. The High School Musical cast is in talks, screenplay by Joss Whedon.
Word is Screech kills Zack with a f..king hammer claw!
There’s a lot to be said for shooting stereo movies with a single camera, and converting them to stereo later — the biggest reason to do that is that current 3D cameras are quite large and relative unwieldy. Even with that, though, it is odd to convert a movie to stereo that wasn’t intended to be stereo in the first place — you would shoot it differently.
Sony’s Alice in Wonderland is a flat-to-stereo conversion…but again, they were intending to do it that way all along, so they shot it with stereo in mind.
If you wanted to stop the spread of H1N1, give it to MGM to develop and distribute.
TIME MACHINE is horrible. They tested and it was in the 40′s! They can’t release it now after FAME. THey’re pushing it off and telling everyone that they’re “going 3D”. You can’t throw good money after bad. Mary – you’re no Scott Stuber – you’re no Scott Rudin, or Scott Free. You are in trouble my dear. Pushing all the schlock you RACED to produce off a year until one or two of your less horrible choices is ready.
That’s what’s happening.
“Even MGM is making fun of NBC.”
That’s got to be the quote of the year
Allison: It’s not nice to say “retarded”, we say “creatively challenged”.
what a bunch of loser movies. are you kidding me. These will put them out of business for sure. whats with all the remakes ? Bad idea
They’re working out a deal with Lionsgate to turn it in to “Madea’s Cabin in the Woods”.
lol…
MGM is in talks with the New Moon cast to do a remake of the Wizard of Oz in which Kristen Stewart will play Dorothy, Robert Pattinson will be the Scarecrow, Kellan Lutz will be the Lion, and Taylor Lautner will be the Tin Man renamed the Steel Man (who will have sixpack abs). MGM is also looking to sign Taylor Swift as Glinda and Sarah Jessica Parker as the Wicked Witch.
