These things are so pro forma. For instance, no one stood up and asked, "Hey, I read about Marc Shmuger, and why didn't you fire him months ago?" Instead, Ron Meyer and the new regime were gracious about him. Though one questioner did say he'd been reading "how we're doing everything wrong" to which Meyer replied, "Yes, but we're doing a lot right, too." (Or words to that effect.) Meyer also was asked, "Are you making less movies?" and replied, "No, we have no plans to make less movies." So the studio is sticking to its 15-18 pics a year.

Carl Icahn Now Wants ALL Of Lionsgate
Shmuger had no real power. If he did he would have done what, historically, every studio chairman does after a string of box office IEDs: fire the head of marketing. Instead, he keeps the punk and gets punked. Putz.
Don’t worry, I’m sure everyone at Universal’s frowns will turn upside down when Couples Retreat opens huge this weekend.
Still very surprised that COUPLES RETREAT (haven’t seen it) is coming out as PG-13 fare.
Couples Retreat looks REALLY bad. Even the trailers are hard to watch.
“No, we have no plans to make less movies.” That’s a bold statement, but a good sign.
Nice quote from The Independent today entitled “Bloodbath in Hollywood”:
“The new Hollywood is different. The most important ability for any would-be movie executive of the future is to be able to identify promising concepts.”

Great article! Thanks for the tip… guess Hollywood is not as recession-proof as it think it is…
Unlike Brad Grey at Par, who in my opinion is close to being out of a job, Ron Meyer is impressive in how he can shake things up and stay ahead of the eight-ball in a changing business…
The buildling up of his int’l operations under Kosse is a great example of seeing where the future is and then going after it.
No plan to make less movies. Just a plan to make really bad movies. I would suggest Water World II. With a $500,000,000 budget not counting ad spending and make the entire movie set in CG with funny animated characters like Jar Jar. Perfect movie for Universal.
If you’re only making 15-18 flix a year – why would one of them be dreck like Love Happens? Then again, that movie was actually made in late 2007/early 2008 and kept in the vault for nearly 18 months. Which is a big ass clue that it’s a dud. Didn’t Ron Meyer bother to watch the movie or was he too blinded by doing yet another favor for his daughter’s good friend Jennifer Aniston?
