UPDATES NBC Uses Obama To Plug Conan & SNL
This should only bolster the right’s contention that NBC is in the tank for the Obama administration. Now the network has Hillary Clinton flacking The Tonight Show as the NBC PR machine claims she will “attempt to broker a truce” in the phony baloney 3-week-long “war of words” between Conan O’Brien and Newark Mayor Cory Booker. This, after President Obama himself already flacked Conan’s show. First, why does NBC think Hillary can help ratings? And, secondly, you mean to tell me the U.S. Secretary Of State doesn’t have anything better to do?
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

obviously she must have SOME free time, but that still doesn’t mean that it’s right that she do this kind of thing. total nonsense. disappointing. manipulative. ego-driven.
Nikki,
THANK YOU!!! The Obama administration has focused way too much time on being the public eye, when there are far more pressing things to do. One of the worst things I have ever witnessed was the promo for the George Lopez talk show, where Obama is actually there telling George to change late night. I don’t know if it is just me, but I want a President and administration that is focused on solving our problems, protecting us, and governing, not one focused on celebrity and being on tv.
Hollywood is ultimately 95% trivia in the long run, and that’s what a site that covers Hollywood is ultimately about. I certainly don’t come here to get informed views about politics.
Like it or not, the military-industrial complex Eisenhower warned us about is now an entertainment-military-industrial complex that floats on a rapacious world financial system that can absorb and redistribute the hard-earned cash of nations with the flick of a billion-dollar bonus package. I doubt there’s anything Obama or Hollywood can do about that.
The Obama administration is probably aware that any PR channel they don’t participate in will be filled by negative stories similar to what we see here when Drudge links. Cooperating with NBC isn’t an expression of administrative power, it’s a defensive move so GE-NBC-Universal won’t go after them.
The is demeaning to a Secretary of State, would Colin Powell, William Rodgers or Henry Kissinger have done this. The mayor of Newark ?
Probably because Obama has delegated most of Clinton’s responsibility to Dennis Ross and other special envoys.
Why not ask Charlie Rangel to give Tax tips or David Letterman marriage tips…opps he is on another network.
NBC is so in love with Obama and some other Democrats so we get to see them anywhere, Obama runs the risk of becoming the “Paris Hilton” of politics, celebrity for celebrity sake..not because of any accomplishment since the election. I understand political humor, jokes….but NBC has missed the point. If ratings suffer, they can blame themselves.
She’s obviously copying the narcissism of her boss.
After all if he can make time for 5 talk shows, multiple rounds of golf, games of basketball, etc, but for Afghanistan he can find no time to deal with a request for reinforcements and only 25 minutes for a 1-to-1 chat with the commander of the troops (and even then only on the way to tell the world how wonderful HE is and that they should give the Olympics to HIS town. Response received: F*** OFF!) well, then it is hardly a shock Hillary seeks to copy that vainglorious behavior.
A negative post about the Chosen One’s administration? Really, Nikki?
Thanks for waking up…you’re a little late.
@DH
Your hate for the Secretary of State is a bit misguided. Do you think her agenda or work schedule is determined by her? Unlike other Secretary of States she really has no voice in the direction of foreign policy. What makes you think her appearance on the Tonight show was her choice?
@Nikki
It is not just the right who see the cozy relationship between NBC and our President. If people were to look at things objectively they would realize the media, journalist, etc have abandoned their role as the fourth estate. How do we explain the press ignoring corruption by Acorn, failure to expose the lies of President Bush, lies by the left and right. Even your story about the NYTimes and Nora Ephron is an example of how the press gets in bed with their subjects. If that is possible with Entertainment news , it is certainly possible the Obama Presidency has a similar relationship with NBC.
The ego of these people knows no end. The only question remains – when will Hillary get her Nobel Peace Prize? Or Bill for that matter.
Well, the late, great Jackie Gleason said it best when he disdainfully called NBC “The National Bisquit Company.”
Jackie we need you now…
Remember when Secretary of State Powell went on Letterman to talk up the Bush Iraq policy on September 25, 2003? Yes, he went on a comedy show to discuss serious policy… with a comedian. A policy that was the worst foreign policy decision in a generation but that would receive no hard-questioning from a guy who tells jokes for a living. But THAT was okay?
Why weren’t all of you complaining then of Powell’s giant ego? How he was demeaning the office? How he was in the tank for CBS? Hypocrites.
Secretary Clinton is doing a two-minute comedy bit. It’s not ego. It’s funny.
Quit your whining, Crusty. You’d welcome Hilary shilling for you if you were in the same league as Conan.
How about our precious political officials take time to fix the problems in this countyr instead of worrying about promoting crap shows on a 4th and maybe soon to be 5th place network that is in utter chaos right now? NBC seriously needs a reality check here and management needs to be cleaned out with the current crop they have there now. ENOUGH!!!!
